The Bible offers a lot of guidance about alcohol. Leviticus 10:91 says, "You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink whenever you go into the tent of meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come." This passage doesn't mean we can't ever have a drink. Alcohol itself isn't sinful.
However, the Bible is very clear that we should steer clear of drunkenness and addiction. Ephesians 5:182 tells us, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." And 1 Corinthians 6:123 reminds us, "‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say—but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything’—but I will not be mastered by anything."
So, think about it. While enjoying a drink might not be wrong in itself, it's important to be mindful and make sure it's not controlling you. It's about living a life that honors God and allows the Holy Spirit to guide you.

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has dullness of the eyes?Do not crave that ruler’s delicacies, for that food is deceptive. Those who linger over wine, those who go looking for mixed wine.Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.Afterward it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper.Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will speak perverse things. And you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, and like one who lies down on the top of the rigging. You will say, “They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! When will I awake? I will look for another drink.”
Those who get up early to drink beer are as good as dead, those who keep drinking long after dark until they are intoxicated with wine. They have stringed instruments, tambourines, flutes, and wine at their parties. So they do not recognize what the Lord is doing, they do not perceive what he is bringing about.
Do not spend time among drunkards, among those who eat too much meat, because drunkards and gluttons become impoverished, and drowsiness clothes them with rags.

their troubles multiply, they desire other gods. I will not pour out drink offerings of blood to their gods, nor will I make vows in the name of their gods.
Even these men stagger because of wine, they stumble around because of beer – priests and prophets stagger because of beer, they are confused because of wine, they stumble around because of beer; they stagger while seeing prophetic visions, they totter while making legal decisions.
But then the Lord awoke from his sleep; he was like a warrior in a drunken rage.He drove his enemies back; he made them a permanent target for insults.
Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time – with self-control and not in drunkenness.
When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you,Do not move an ancient boundary stone, or take over the fields of the fatherless, for their Protector is strong; he will plead their case against you.Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to the words of knowledge.Do not withhold discipline from a child; even if you strike him with the rod, he will not die.If you strike him with the rod, you will deliver him from death. My child, if your heart is wise, then my heart also will be glad;my soul will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.Do not let your heart envy sinners, but rather be zealous in fearing the Lord all the time. For surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.Listen, my child, and be wise, and guide your heart on the right way.and put a knife to your throat if you possess a large appetite.Do not spend time among drunkards, among those who eat too much meat, because drunkards and gluttons become impoverished, and drowsiness clothes them with rags.Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.Acquire truth and do not sell it – wisdom, and discipline, and understanding. The father of a righteous person will rejoice greatly; whoever fathers a wise child will have joy in him.May your father and your mother have joy; may she who bore you rejoice.Give me your heart, my son, and let your eyes observe my ways;for a prostitute is like a deep pit; a harlot is like a narrow well.Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has dullness of the eyes?Do not crave that ruler’s delicacies, for that food is deceptive.

And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord, and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.always giving thanks to God the Father for each other in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

as well as wine that makes people feel so good, and so they can have oil to make their faces shine, as well as food that sustains people’s lives.
Wine is a mocker and strong drink is a brawler; whoever goes astray by them is not wise.Diverse weights and diverse measures – the Lord abhors both of them.Even a young man is known by his actions, whether his activity is pure and whether it is right. The ear that hears and the eye that sees – the Lord has made them both.Do not love sleep, lest you become impoverished; open your eyes so that you might be satisfied with food.“It’s worthless! It’s worthless!” says the buyer, but when he goes on his way, he boasts. There is gold, and an abundance of rubies, but words of knowledge are like a precious jewel.Take a man’s garment when he has given security for a stranger, and when he gives surety for strangers, hold him in pledge.Bread gained by deceit tastes sweet to a person, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.Plans are established by counsel, so make war with guidance. The one who goes about gossiping reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with someone who is always opening his mouth. The king’s terrifying anger is like the roar of a lion; whoever provokes him sins against himself.
I tell you, from now on I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
I thought deeply about the effects of indulging myself with wine (all the while my mind was guiding me with wisdom) and the effects of behaving foolishly, so that I might discover what is profitable for people to do on earth during the few days of their lives.
For the time that has passed was sufficient for you to do what the non-Christians desire. You lived then in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking bouts, and wanton idolatries.
Do not eat the food of a stingy person, do not crave his delicacies;for he is like someone calculating the cost in his mind. “Eat and drink,” he says to you, but his heart is not with you;you will vomit up the little bit you have eaten, and will have wasted your pleasant words.
Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed! Do not envy evildoers!Evil men will soon disappear; you will stare at the spot where they once were, but they will be gone. But the oppressed will possess the land and enjoy great prosperity.Evil men plot against the godly and viciously attack them. The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming.Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly.Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men,for evil men will lose their power, but the Lord sustains the godly. The Lord watches over the innocent day by day and they possess a permanent inheritance. They will not be ashamed when hard times come; when famine comes they will have enough to eat.For they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants.
Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise child makes a father rejoice, but a foolish child is a grief to his mother.
For my life nears its end in pain; my years draw to a close as I groan. My strength fails me because of my sin, and my bones become brittle.
(Stop drinking just water, but use a little wine for your digestion and your frequent illnesses.)
Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires.
You will say, “They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! When will I awake? I will look for another drink.”
and also that everyone should eat and drink, and find enjoyment in all his toil, for these things are a gift from God.
Praise the Lord, O my soul! With all that is within me, praise his holy name!He does not deal with us as our sins deserve; he does not repay us as our misdeeds deserve. For as the skies are high above the earth, so his loyal love towers over his faithful followers. As far as the eastern horizon is from the west, so he removes the guilt of our rebellious actions from us.As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on his faithful followers. For he knows what we are made of; he realizes we are made of clay.A person’s life is like grass. Like a flower in the field it flourishes, but when the hot wind blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew. But the Lord continually shows loyal love to his faithful followers, and is faithful to their descendants,to those who keep his covenant, who are careful to obey his commands. The Lord has established his throne in heaven; his kingdom extends over everything.Praise the Lord, O my soul! Do not forget all his kind deeds!
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits? For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, then your barns will be filled completely, and your vats will overflow with new wine.My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, and do not loathe his rebuke. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, just as a father disciplines the son in whom he delights.Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who obtains understanding. For her benefit is more profitable than silver, and her gain is better than gold. She is more precious than rubies, and none of the things you desire can compare with her.Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are very pleasant, and all her paths are peaceful. She is like a tree of life to those who obtain her, and everyone who grasps hold of her will be blessed.By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of the earth; he established the heavens by understanding.for they will provide a long and full life, and they will add well-being to you.
He despises a reprobate, but honors the Lord’s loyal followers. He makes firm commitments and does not renege on his promise.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us,For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness. Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.Therefore, strengthen your listless hands and your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed.Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord.See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled. And see to it that no one becomes an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. For you know that later when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no opportunity for repentance, although he sought the blessing with tears. For you have not come to something that can be touched, to a burning fire and darkness and gloom and a whirlwindand the blast of a trumpet and a voice uttering words such that those who heard begged to hear no more.keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?If someone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, which is what you are.
As for you, the one who lives in the shelter of the sovereign One, and resides in the protective shadow of the mighty king –No harm will overtake you; no illness will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you in all you do.They will lift you up in their hands, so you will not slip and fall on a stone. You will subdue a lion and a snake; you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent. The Lord says, “Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me.When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor.I will satisfy him with long life, and will let him see my salvation.I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust –
The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper exalts folly.
For this is what the high and exalted one says, the one who rules forever, whose name is holy: “I dwell in an exalted and holy place, but also with the discouraged and humiliated, in order to cheer up the humiliated and to encourage the discouraged.
Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,
If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell.“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell.
Can a man hold fire against his chest without burning his clothes? Can a man walk on hot coals without scorching his feet?So it is with the one who has sex with his neighbor’s wife; no one who touches her will escape punishment.
For if your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy by your food someone for whom Christ died.
Do you not know that all the runners in a stadium compete, but only one receives the prize? So run to win. Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.So I do not run uncertainly or box like one who hits only air.Instead I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that after preaching to others I myself will not be disqualified.
For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain.
Better to be slow to anger than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper is better than one who captures a city.
Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice – alive, holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service.Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another.Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord.Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering, persist in prayer.Contribute to the needs of the saints, pursue hospitality.Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse.Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people.Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
For a fool speaks disgraceful things; his mind plans out sinful deeds. He commits godless deeds and says misleading things about the Lord; he gives the hungry nothing to satisfy their appetite and gives the thirsty nothing to drink.
O Lord, I come before you in prayer. The Lord always proves faithful and reliable to those who follow the demands of his covenant. For the sake of your reputation, O Lord, forgive my sin, because it is great. The Lord shows his faithful followers the way they should live. They experience his favor; their descendants inherit the land. The Lord’s loyal followers receive his guidance, and he reveals his covenantal demands to them.I continually look to the Lord for help, for he will free my feet from the enemy’s net.Turn toward me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and oppressed!Deliver me from my distress; rescue me from my suffering!See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins!Watch my enemies, for they outnumber me; they hate me and want to harm me.My God, I trust in you. Please do not let me be humiliated; do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me!
Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to the words of knowledge.Do not withhold discipline from a child; even if you strike him with the rod, he will not die.If you strike him with the rod, you will deliver him from death.
That servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know his master’s will and did things worthy of punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked.
envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
The beginning of wisdom is to fear the Lord, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding.
When you find honey, eat only what is sufficient for you, lest you become stuffed with it and vomit it up.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires, and do not present your members to sin as instruments to be used for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and your members to God as instruments to be used for righteousness.
So we must not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up.
