49 Bible Verses to Overcome Distress

I know life can throw some serious curveballs, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed and lose your peace. But I want you to remember that even when things get tough, you're not alone. God is always there with you.

His word offers incredible strength in those difficult moments. Philippians 4:6¹ says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Think about that for a second. No matter what you're facing, you can bring it to God.

Let that peace of Christ settle in your heart. Trust in His truth. What really matters isn't what your circumstances might say about you right now, but what your Heavenly Father has planned for your life in eternity.

¹Philippians 4:6 New International Version

The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord, their refuge in a time of distress.

But I will sing of Your strength and will joyfully proclaim Your faithful love in the morning. For You have been a stronghold for me, a refuge in my day of trouble.

I called to the Lord in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.

I called to the Lord in distress; the Lord answered me and put me in a spacious place.

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; He cares for those who take refuge in Him.

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them from all their troubles.The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit.

casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him from all his troubles.

I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

When I am filled with cares, Your comfort brings me joy.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away.

The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit.

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves.and asked Him, “Are You the One who is to come, or should we expect someone else? ”For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.

God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.

Many adversities come to the one who is righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure with turmoil.

Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.

God, hear my cry; pay attention to my prayer.I call to You from the ends of the earth when my heart is without strength. Lead me to a rock that is high above me,

Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your stronghold.”

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.

Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,yet I will triumph in Yahweh; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!

A man’s spirit can endure sickness, but who can survive a broken spirit?

I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire, and the flame will not burn you.

Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health physically just as you are spiritually.

Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor, a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night, but there is joy in the morning.

Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff — they comfort me.

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.

The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom should I fear? For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin.Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.

No weapon formed against you will succeed, and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants, and their righteousness is from Me.” This is the Lord’s declaration.

I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from?My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Your life should be free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you.Therefore, we may boldly say: The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Now this is what the Lord says — the One who created you, Jacob, and the One who formed you, Israel — “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.“You are My witnesses” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act,

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers,height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful.

Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
