114 Bible verses about Pagan Holidays

114 Bible verses about Pagan Holidays

The influence of pagan holidays in our society today is undeniable. It's true that many of these celebrations have been adopted and adapted over the centuries, but it's important to think about their origins and meaning from a biblical perspective.

The Bible teaches us to be aware of the influences around us and to discern between what is good and what is bad in God's eyes. As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive" (1 Corinthians 10:23).

So, we should consider whether pagan holidays promote values and practices that align with God's word. It's crucial to seek God's guidance and remember that our actions should glorify Him. Instead of just going along with these celebrations without questioning their background, we should look for ways to honor and worship God in accordance with His word.

The Bible urges us not to conform to the patterns of this world, but to transform our minds and live according to God's will (Romans 12:2). It's a good reminder to really think about these holidays from a biblical perspective and to be mindful of the influences around us, always seeking God's will.

Let's remember to be a light in the darkness and look for opportunities to share God's love and the message of salvation with those around us.

You must not do any regular work. This is a perpetual statute in all the places where you live throughout your generations. When you gather in the harvest of your land, you must not completely harvest the corner of your field, and you must not gather up the gleanings of your harvest. You must leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.’”The Lord spoke to Moses:“Tell the Israelites, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you must have a complete rest, a memorial announced by loud horn blasts, a holy assembly. You must not do any regular work, but you must present a gift to the Lord.’”The Lord spoke to Moses:“The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It is to be a holy assembly for you, and you must humble yourselves and present a gift to the Lord. You must not do any work on this particular day, because it is a day of atonement to make atonement for yourselves before the Lord your God.Indeed, any person who does not behave with humility on this particular day will be cut off from his people.“‘Six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest, a holy assembly. You must not do any work; it is a Sabbath to the Lord in all the places where you live.

Deuteronomy 12:29-31

When the Lord your God eliminates the nations from the place where you are headed and you dispossess them, you will settle down in their land. You must tear down their altars, shatter their sacred pillars, burn up their sacred Asherah poles, and cut down the images of their gods; you must eliminate their very memory from that place. After they have been destroyed from your presence, be careful not to be ensnared like they are; do not pursue their gods and say, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do the same.”You must not worship the Lord your God the way they do! For everything that is abhorrent to him, everything he hates, they have done when worshiping their gods. They even burn up their sons and daughters before their gods!

Jeremiah 10:2-4

The Lord says, “Do not start following pagan religious practices. Do not be in awe of signs that occur in the sky even though the nations hold them in awe.But our tents have been destroyed. The ropes that held them in place have been ripped apart. Our children are gone and are not coming back. There is no survivor to put our tents back up, no one left to hang their tent curtains in place. For our leaders are stupid. They have not sought the Lord’s advice. So they do not act wisely, and the people they are responsible for have all been scattered.Listen! News is coming even now. The rumble of a great army is heard approaching from a land in the north. It is coming to turn the towns of Judah into rubble, places where only jackals live.Lord, we know that people do not control their own destiny. It is not in their power to determine what will happen to them.Correct us, Lord, but only in due measure. Do not punish us in anger or you will reduce us to nothing.Vent your anger on the nations that do not acknowledge you. Vent it on the peoples who do not worship you. For they have destroyed the people of Jacob. They have completely destroyed them and left their homeland in utter ruin. For the religion of these people is worthless. They cut down a tree in the forest, and a craftsman makes it into an idol with his tools. He decorates it with overlays of silver and gold. He uses hammer and nails to fasten it together so that it will not fall over.

Exodus 32:1-6

When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said to him, “Get up, make us gods that will go before us. As for this fellow Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him!”So now, leave me alone so that my anger can burn against them and I can destroy them, and I will make from you a great nation.”But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God and said, “O Lord, why does your anger burn against your people, whom you have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, ‘For evil he led them out to kill them in the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger, and relent of this evil against your people.Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel your servants, to whom you swore by yourself and told them, ‘I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken about I will give to your descendants, and they will inherit it forever.’”Then the Lord relented over the evil that he had said he would do to his people.Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hands. The tablets were written on both sides – they were written on the front and on the back. Now the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets. When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “It is the sound of war in the camp!”Moses said, “It is not the sound of those who shout for victory, nor is it the sound of those who cry because they are overcome, but the sound of singing I hear.”When he approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses became extremely angry. He threw the tablets from his hands and broke them to pieces at the bottom of the mountain. So Aaron said to them, “Break off the gold earrings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”He took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire, ground it to powder, poured it out on the water, and made the Israelites drink it.Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought on them so great a sin?”Aaron said, “Do not let your anger burn hot, my lord; you know these people, that they tend to evil. They said to me, ‘Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this fellow Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.’So I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”Moses saw that the people were running wild, for Aaron had let them get completely out of control, causing derision from their enemies. So Moses stood at the entrance of the camp and said, “Whoever is for the Lord, come to me.” All the Levites gathered around him,and he said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Each man fasten his sword on his side, and go back and forth from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and each one kill his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.’”The Levites did what Moses ordered, and that day about three thousand men of the people died.Moses said, “You have been consecrated today for the Lord, for each of you was against his son or against his brother, so he has given a blessing to you today.”So all the people broke off the gold earrings that were on their ears and brought them to Aaron. The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a very serious sin, but now I will go up to the Lord – perhaps I can make atonement on behalf of your sin.”So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Alas, this people has committed a very serious sin, and they have made for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will forgive their sin…, but if not, wipe me out from your book that you have written.”The Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me – that person I will wipe out of my book.So now go, lead the people to the place I have spoken to you about. See, my angel will go before you. But on the day that I punish, I will indeed punish them for their sin.”And the Lord sent a plague on the people because they had made the calf – the one Aaron made.He accepted the gold from them, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molten calf. Then they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it, and Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow will be a feast to the Lord.”So they got up early on the next day and offered up burnt offerings and brought peace offerings, and the people sat down to eat and drink, and they rose up to play.

I endured these persecutions and the Lord delivered me from them all.Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But evil people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves. You, however, must continue in the things you have learned and are confident about. You know who taught youand how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God.They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. Prayer

Wonderful and praiseworthy God, You are magnificent, You live forever. I adore You for Your countless works, I adore You for freeing me from darkness and bringing me into Your marvelous light. I was lost, but You rescued me, beloved Father. In the midst of the worldly celebrations around us, I pray that You guide us on the right path. May we, amidst these festivities, be mindful of keeping our faith alive and remembering the principles and teachings You laid out for us in Your word. May this season be a chance to strengthen our connection with You, God, and remember that You are the center of our lives. May our actions and words reflect Your presence in our lives and be a living testament to Your unconditional love. During this time of worldly celebrations, I lift up this prayer to God for wisdom, discernment, and strength to resist negative influences and focus on what is true and meaningful. Lord, help us carry the message of salvation so that all who are deceived by the devil may be completely free. In Jesus' name, Amen.
