At the start of each week, I encourage you to set aside a portion of your earnings, just as it says in 1 Corinthians 16:2. It's better not to wait until the last minute and try to scramble everything together. Paul, in his letters to the early churches, addressed practical matters, including how they handled their finances, offering clear guidance for everyday living. Giving was definitely part of his teaching.
Ephesians 5:2 talks about how Christ was the perfect offering, giving himself for us. Every time we give, we remember that sacrifice. When you give, you're reflecting Jesus, who held nothing back. Giving is a way of saying thank you to God, a natural expression of faith.
Revelation 1:6 reminds us that one of the roles of a priest is to offer gifts to God. I know talking about giving can make some folks uncomfortable, but there's a real blessing in it. Sure, most of us would rather receive than give, but I encourage you to give generously, without holding back. God loves a cheerful giver and blesses the work of their hands.
So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it.He called the name of that place Bethel,[4] but the name of the city was Luz at the first. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God,and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you."
Now concerning[1] the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do.On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.
"Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD's; it is holy to the LORD.
"One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?
Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
You may not eat within your towns the tithe of your grain or of your wine or of your oil, or the firstborn of your herd or of your flock, or any of your vow offerings that you vow, or your freewill offerings or the contribution that you present, but you shall eat them before the LORD your God in the place that the LORD your God will choose, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite who is within your towns. And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God in all that you undertake.
"You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year. And before the LORD your God, in the place that he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you.
As soon as the command was spread abroad, the people of Israel gave in abundance the firstfruits of grain, wine, oil, honey, and of all the produce of the field. And they brought in abundantly the tithe of everything.
and to bring the first of our dough, and our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and to bring to the Levites the tithes from our ground, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all our towns where we labor.
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[5] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.I will rebuke the devourer[2] for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the LORD of hosts.
Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In your tithes and contributions.
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency[3] in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion!May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake.
"But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you."
Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Take from among you a contribution to the LORD. Whoever is of a generous heart, let him bring the LORD's contribution: gold, silver, and bronze;
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good.
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.
I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers,[2] cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.
For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.
You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me?I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:
So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for the gift you have promised, so that it may be ready as a willing gift, not as an exaction.[2]
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. None shall appear before me empty-handed.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
"So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Blessed is the one who considers the poor![1] In the day of trouble the LORD delivers him;

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.
But as you excel in everything -- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you[2] -- see that you excel in this act of grace also.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
