VERSES ABOUT PRAYER

Think about what you need and ask God for it. Like any good parent, He knows what His children need. Prayer should absolutely include asking for things, because when you ask God for something, you're acknowledging your own limitations. Whatever your situation, bring your needs to the Lord – whether it's provision, protection, healing, or guidance – and just ask for His help.

Psalm 139:4¹ says, "Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely." Prayer unlocks the treasures of God's Kingdom. It's a key the Creator has placed right in your hand, and He wants you to use it.

It would be so easy for Him to just give you everything you need; everything belongs to Him, and the whole universe is under His command. He could easily provide for you without you ever having to ask. But that's not how He designed it. God loves you, and His greatest desire is to have a close relationship with you. Prayer is the channel through which His provision flows into your life.

O Yahweh, in the morning, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

I eagerly greet the dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words.

O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land without water.

¶But as for me, O Yahweh, I have cried out to You for help, And in the morning my prayer comes before You.

My soul waits for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning, The watchmen for the morning.

I remember in the night Your name, O Yahweh, So I keep Your law.

At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You earnestly; For when the earth experiences Your judgments, The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

I stretch out my hands to You; My soul reaches for You like a weary land. Selah.

Evening and morning and at noon, I will bring my complaint and moan, And He will hear my voice.

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

At midnight I shall rise to give thanks to You Because of Your righteous judgments.

But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries reproach me, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Wait for God, for I shall still praise Him, The salvation of my presence and my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?

With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me stray from Your commandments.

The lovingkindnesses of Yahweh indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; In You I hope all the day.

“I love those who love me; And those who earnestly seek me will find me.

¶I called with all my heart; answer me, O Yahweh! I will observe Your statutes. I called to You; save me And I shall keep Your testimonies.

You remove all the wicked of the earth like dross; Therefore I love Your testimonies.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in his distress; I will rescue him and honor him.

¶Be still in Yahweh and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out schemes of wickedness.

My soul is satisfied as with fatness and richness, And my mouth offers praises with lips of joyful songs. ¶When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches,

¶Lord Yahweh has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Yahweh, make me to abide in safety.

Out of the depths I called to You, O Yahweh.

And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

I have sought to please Your face with all my heart; Be gracious to me according to Your word.

Praise Yah! How blessed is the man who fears Yahweh, Who greatly delights in His commandments.

Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me.

¶How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word.

When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.

¶Your lovingkindness, O Yahweh, is in the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

For You, Lord, are good, and by nature forgiving, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.

¶But as for me, I trust in You, O Yahweh, I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue me.

“Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer; You will cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness,

May my heart be blameless in Your statutes, So that I will not be ashamed.

“ Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

For I wait on You, O Yahweh; You will answer, O Lord my God.

Trouble and anguish have found me, Yet Your commandments are my delight.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

rejoicing in hope, persevering in affliction, being devoted to prayer,

Yahweh is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.

This is the day which Yahweh has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

My eyes fail with longing for Your word, Saying, “When will You comfort me?”

But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have set Lord Yahweh as my refuge, That I may recount all Your works.

‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will make you mighty, surely I will help you; Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

On Your behalf my heart says, “Seek My face,” “Your face, O Yahweh, I shall seek.”

I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart.

I will bless Yahweh at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek You.

May Your compassion come to me that I may live, For Your law is my delight.

Remove the false way from me, And graciously grant me Your law.

O Yahweh, You have searched me and known me. Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. If I say, “Surely the darkness will bruise me, And the light around me will be night,” Even the darkness is not too dark for You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. ¶For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And intricately woven in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unshaped substance; And in Your book all of them were written The days that were formed for me, When as yet there was not one of them. ¶How precious are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. ¶Oh that You would slay the wicked, O God! O men of bloodshed, depart from me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is dignified, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, consider these things.

You have enclosed me behind and before, And You have put Your hand upon me.

¶I hope for Yahweh, my soul does hope, And for His word do I wait. My soul waits for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning, The watchmen for the morning.

When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?

¶Let my cry of lamentation come near before You, O Yahweh; Give me understanding according to Your word.

Teach me good discernment and knowledge, For I believe in Your commandments.

Your word is exceedingly refined, Therefore Your slave loves it.

The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom; Good insight belongs to all those who do His commandments; His praise stands forever.

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace Because he trusts in You. “Trust in Yahweh forever, For in Yah—Yahweh Himself—we have an everlasting Rock.

¶When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, For You have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.

For it is You who blesses the righteous one, O Yahweh, You surround him with favor as with a large shield.

O God, hear my prayer; Give ear to the words of my mouth.

In the day of my distress I shall call upon You, For You will answer me.

By day, Yahweh will command His lovingkindness; And by night, His song will be with me, A prayer to the God of my life.

My soul has longed and even fainted for the courts of Yahweh; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.

¶I hate those who are double-minded, But I love Your law.

Commit your way to Yahweh, Trust in Him, and He will do it.

¶Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Give heed to the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray.

The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

Cause my reproach which I dread to pass away, For Your judgments are good.

Yet those who hope in Yahweh Will gain new power; They will mount up with wings like eagles; They will run and not get tired; They will walk and not become weary.

¶Yahweh is gracious and compassionate; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.

¶I hope for Yahweh, my soul does hope, And for His word do I wait.

¶Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.

I hoped earnestly for Yahweh; And He inclined to me and heard my cry for help.

And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.

Give ear to my words, O Yahweh, Consider my meditation. Hold them guilty, O God; By their own devices let them fall! In the abundance of their transgressions thrust them out, For they are rebellious against You. ¶But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. For it is You who blesses the righteous one, O Yahweh, You surround him with favor as with a large shield. Give heed to the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray.

How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, They seek Him with all their heart.

Let my supplication come before You; Deliver me according to Your word.

Yahweh is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul.

¶Tremble, and do not sin; Ponder in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Yet You are holy, Enthroned upon the praises of Israel.

¶I called with all my heart; answer me, O Yahweh! I will observe Your statutes.

“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” Says Yahweh who has compassion on you.

Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth.

¶From my distress I called upon Yah; Yah answered me and set me in a large place.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,

Blessed are You, O Yahweh; Teach me Your statutes.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. and said to Him, “Are You the One who is to come, or shall we look for someone else?” For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the sons of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They are satisfied from the richness of Your house; And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

He who abides in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

Yahweh is my shepherd, I shall not want.

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not dread; For Yah—Yahweh Himself—is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.”

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Let my soul live that it may praise You, And let Your judgments help me.

Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer Nor His lovingkindness from me.

I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies, For all my ways are before You.

¶Therefore Yahweh waits with longing to be gracious to you, And therefore He is on high to have compassion on you. For Yahweh is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who wait for Him.

Hope in Yahweh; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Hope in Yahweh.

¶But You, O Yahweh, be not far off; O my Strength, hasten to my help.

¶Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, The God who is our salvation. Selah.

How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, Whose hope is in Yahweh his God,

Who raises the poor from the dust And lifts high the needy from the ash heap,

And do not take away the word of truth utterly from my mouth, For I wait for Your judgments.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have consciousness of sins? by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Give thanks to Yahweh, for He is good, For His lovingkindness endures forever.

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from Yahweh, Who made heaven and earth.

Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O Yahweh, We have hoped for You eagerly; Your name—the memory of You—is the desire of our souls.

The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who inquire of Yahweh shall not be in want of any good thing.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;

¶“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will protect him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Yahweh, my rock and my Redeemer.

¶But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Yahweh, at an acceptable time; O God, in the abundance of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with the truth of Your salvation.

My voice rises to God, and I must cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me. Then I said, “It is my grief, That the right hand of the Most High has changed.” ¶I shall remember the deeds of Yah; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds. O God, Your way is holy; What god is great like God? You are the God who works wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples. You have by Your arm redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. ¶The waters saw You, O God; The waters saw You, they were in anguish; The deeps also trembled. The clouds poured out water; The skies gave forth a sound; Your arrows went here and there. The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lit up the world; The earth trembled and shook. Your way was in the sea And Your paths in the mighty waters, But Your footprints were not known. In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; My soul refused to be comforted.

¶Your lovingkindness, O Yahweh, is in the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; Your judgments are like a great deep. O Yahweh, You save man and beast.

And my God will fulfill all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Commit your works to Yahweh And your plans will be established.

Give thanks to the God of gods, For His lovingkindness endures forever.

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him,

And it will be that before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear.

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad.

¶But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You.
