105 Bible Verses about Suffering

105 Bible Verses about Suffering

The book of Job, in God's Word, really dives deep into suffering. Job went through so much because of this conflict between God and Satan, where God was actually defending Job's righteousness. Even though Job had no clue about this battle going on behind the scenes, God allowed these things to happen in his life so that the enemy would be put to shame by the love and respect Job had for Him.

Neither Job nor his friends understood why he was suffering at the time. But when Job finally came face-to-face with the Lord, he chose silence. That doesn't mean his pain wasn't real, though. It actually highlights how important it is to trust in God's purposes, even when we're going through tough times and don't have all the answers.

In the midst of our pain and suffering, God wants us to trust completely in His care. Even when we feel like we're dying inside, He promises to give us victory throughout our journey. Don't give up. Let God's love embrace you, and always hold on tight to Him.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us,For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness. Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.Therefore, strengthen your listless hands and your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed.Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord.See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled. And see to it that no one becomes an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. For you know that later when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no opportunity for repentance, although he sought the blessing with tears. For you have not come to something that can be touched, to a burning fire and darkness and gloom and a whirlwindand the blast of a trumpet and a voice uttering words such that those who heard begged to hear no more.keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. James 1:2-4

My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials,For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls. But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves. For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someone who gazes at his own face in a mirror. For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgets what sort of person he was.But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out – he will be blessed in what he does.If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world.because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:I have observed the burden that God has given to people to keep them occupied.God has made everything fit beautifully in its appropriate time, but he has also placed ignorance in the human heart so that people cannot discover what God has ordained, from the beginning to the end of their lives.I have concluded that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to enjoy themselves as long as they live, and also that everyone should eat and drink, and find enjoyment in all his toil, for these things are a gift from God.I also know that whatever God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken away from it. God has made it this way, so that men will fear him.Whatever exists now has already been, and whatever will be has already been; for God will seek to do again what has occurred in the past.I saw something else on earth: In the place of justice, there was wickedness, and in the place of fairness, there was wickedness.I thought to myself, “God will judge both the righteous and the wicked; for there is an appropriate time for every activity, and there is a time of judgment for every deed.I also thought to myself, “It is for the sake of people, so God can clearly show them that they are like animals. For the fate of humans and the fate of animals are the same: As one dies, so dies the other; both have the same breath. There is no advantage for humans over animals, for both are fleeting.A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot what was planted; Both go to the same place, both come from the dust, and to dust both return.Who really knows if the human spirit ascends upward, and the animal’s spirit descends into the earth? So I perceived there is nothing better than for people to enjoy their work, because that is their reward; for who can show them what the future holds?A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.

Prayer

Great and mighty God, wonderful and holy, You are worthy of all praise and adoration. I cry out to You, my God in heaven, my refuge and strength, my ever-present help in times of trouble. I ask You, Lord, to take control in this painful moment I'm facing and be the soothing balm to my life. Help me not to lose hope, to stand firm against life's storms, knowing that my faith in You will keep me strong, understanding that every hardship is fleeting, but Your word endures forever. Holy Spirit, give me the strength and courage to overcome this time of suffering. Don't let tears and sadness consume my heart, for You fight my battles, and victory comes from You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
