106 Bible verses about Resentment

106 Bible verses about Resentment

I know many of us have been hurt. We've carried resentment and bitterness, even though deep down we know it's not good for us. It's so easy to dwell on the past, to hold onto grudges, but honestly, it only hurts us in the end. It eats away at us, affecting not just our souls but our whole being.

Forgiveness is something God calls us to, and He knows it's good for our hearts. It takes real strength to forgive, and it's anything but humiliating. It's an act of courage that sets us free.

If you've been hurt, I encourage you to forgive. And if you've caused hurt, seek forgiveness. Don't let bitterness take root. Don't let resentment fester.

Think about how God has forgiven you. We need to offer that same forgiveness to others to truly experience His incredible love.

It's okay to feel hurt when our pride is wounded or when we've been wronged. But remember Jesus' words on the cross: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34). If He could do it, so can we.

James 4:1-3

Where do the conflicts and where do the quarrels among you come from? Is it not from this, from your passions that battle inside you?Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.Do not speak against one another, brothers and sisters. He who speaks against a fellow believer or judges a fellow believer speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but its judge. But there is only one who is lawgiver and judge – the one who is able to save and destroy. On the other hand, who are you to judge your neighbor?Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes. You ought to say instead, “If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.”But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.So whoever knows what is good to do and does not do it is guilty of sin.You desire and you do not have; you murder and envy and you cannot obtain; you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask;you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions.

Prayer

Father, you know everything, even the deepest parts of my heart. I recognize that because of traumas and bad experiences, I've messed up and allowed my heart to be tainted by bitterness and resentment. Your word says it so clearly, "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." Lord, today I come to you with a heart ready to forgive and heal from the pain I've carried. Help me understand that only with the help of your Holy Spirit can I let go of all this. Only you have the power to transform and change my life. Help me open my heart to love and pray for those who have hurt me, so I can restore my relationship with you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
