You know, God sees right into our hearts. He knows when we're giving our best. He's not looking for perfection, but He loves it when we give cheerfully and not grudgingly. Think about it: when you give a gift with a happy heart, it just feels different, right?
Your offering should come from a willing heart, given justly, according to what you have. As the Bible says, "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart" (2 Corinthians 9:7). It's not about how much, but about the heart behind it.
The Bible teaches us that God wants us to give joyfully and generously, just like He does. He gives abundantly, "without finding fault" (James 1:5). Think about the sunshine and the rain – He gives those to everyone, right? Just like in Matthew 5:45, He sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. That's true generosity.
So, when you give to God, think of it as a thank you for all He's given you. And don't forget about giving to others, too, following God's example. It's a way of acknowledging that everything we have ultimately belongs to Him.
When you give, trust in God's faithfulness and His promise to provide for all your needs. He's got you covered. More than the actual gift, He cares about the attitude behind it. He wants your offering to be obedient and freely given, according to His commandments, and accompanied by a merciful heart, full of the desire to glorify Him. God makes it clear that He's not pleased with offerings that are just going through the motions, you know, those traditional or ritualistic ones that lack a truly obedient and merciful heart, lacking the desire to glorify Him.
Abel, on his part, also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And Yahweh had regard for Abel and for his offering;
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name; Lift up an offering, and come before Him; Worship Yahweh in the splendor of holiness.
And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the crowd was putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two lepta, which amount to a quadrans. And calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all those putting money into the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.”
Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.
All day long he is insatiably craving, While the righteous gives and does not hold back.
“Therefore, when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”
May Yahweh answer you in the day of distress! May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high! May He send you help from the sanctuary And uphold you from Zion! May He remember all your meal offerings And find your burnt offering acceptable! Selah.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. “Therefore, when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
And He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to Yahweh offerings in righteousness.
For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to share with the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
And God is able to make every grace abound to you, so that in everything at every time having every sufficiency, you may have an abundance for every good deed;
Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness;
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows with blessing will also reap with blessing.
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also. Now if Timothy comes, take care that he is with you without fear, for he is doing the Lord’s work, as I also am. So let no one despise him. But send him on his way in peace, so that he may come to me, for I expect him with the brothers. Now concerning Apollos our brother, I encouraged him greatly to come to you with the brothers, and it was not at all his desire to come now, but he will come when he has opportunity. Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. Now I exhort you, brothers (you know the household of Stephanas, that they were the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves for service to the saints), that you also be in subjection to such men and to everyone who helps in the work and labors. And I rejoice over the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have supplied what was lacking on your part. For they have refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore recognize such men. The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. On the first day of every week each one of you is to set something aside, saving whatever he has prospered, so that no collections be made when I come.
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says Yahweh of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and empty out for you a blessing until it is beyond enough.
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who holds back what is rightly due, and yet results only in want.
‘Now when you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to Yahweh, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.
you will be enriched in everything for all generosity, which through us is bringing about thanksgiving to God.
Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.
But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I have been filled, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
“Beware of doing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. ‘Give us this day our daily bread. ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’] For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. “Now whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And which of you by worrying can add a single cubit to his life span? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
So it happened in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh of the fruit of the ground. Abel, on his part, also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And Yahweh had regard for Abel and for his offering; but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell.
‘Take from among you a contribution to Yahweh; whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as a contribution to Yahweh: gold, silver, and bronze,
And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Yahweh, you shall sacrifice it so that you may be accepted.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of Yahweh your God which He has given you.
¶With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to You; I will give thanks to Your name, O Yahweh, for it is good.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
“But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as willingly as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.
And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. Then He continued saying to them, “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. “But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name’s sake. It will result in an opportunity for your testimony. So set in your hearts not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute. But you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death, and you will be hated by all because of My name. Yet not a hair of your head will perish. By your perseverance you will gain your lives. And He saw a poor widow putting in two lepta. “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is at hand. Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the countryside must not enter the city; because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath against this people, and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Then He told them a parable: “Behold the fig tree and all the trees; And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them. as soon as they put forth leaves and you see it for yourselves, know that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. “But be on guard, so that your hearts will not be overcome with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; for it will come upon all those who inhabit the face of all the earth. But keep on the alert at all times, praying earnestly that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Now during the day He was teaching in the temple, but during the night He would go out and spend it on the mount called “of Olives.” And all the people would get up early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him. For they all put in their gifts out of their abundance; but she, out of what she lacked, put in all that she had for living.”
Therefore I exhort you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice—living, holy, and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
“Speak with the sons of Israel so that they take a contribution for Me; from every man whose heart is willing you shall take My contribution.
you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
As soon as the word spread forth, the sons of Israel provided in abundance the first fruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in abundantly the tithe of all.
Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy. He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, carrying his sheaves with him.
On the first day of every week each one of you is to set something aside, saving whatever he has prospered, so that no collections be made when I come.
For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
Yahweh is God, and He has given us light; Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. Serve the Lord Christ.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
¶Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
“Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To release the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke? “Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry And bring the afflicted homeless into the house; When you see the naked, you cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he was approved as being righteous—God approving his gifts—and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.
But now I am going to Jerusalem to serve the saints. For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to share with the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
Command them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.
¶What shall I give to Yahweh in return For all His bountiful dealings with me? I shall lift up the cup of salvation And call upon the name of Yahweh. I shall pay my vows to Yahweh, Oh may it be in the presence of all His people.
But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
That my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Yahweh my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess His name.
Yahweh is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. ¶Many are the evils against the righteous, But Yahweh delivers him out of them all.
If we sowed spiritual things in you, is it too much if we reap material things from you?
shepherd the flock of God among you, overseeing not under compulsion, but willingly, according to God; and not for dishonest gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to you, but being examples to the flock.
He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
