You know, God sees right into our hearts. He knows when we're giving our best. He's not looking for perfection, but He loves it when we give cheerfully and not grudgingly. Think about it: when you give a gift with a happy heart, it just feels different, right?
Your offering should come from a willing heart, given justly, according to what you have. As the Bible says, "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart" (2 Corinthians 9:7). It's not about how much, but about the heart behind it.
The Bible teaches us that God wants us to give joyfully and generously, just like He does. He gives abundantly, "without finding fault" (James 1:5). Think about the sunshine and the rain – He gives those to everyone, right? Just like in Matthew 5:45, He sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. That's true generosity.
So, when you give to God, think of it as a thank you for all He's given you. And don't forget about giving to others, too, following God's example. It's a way of acknowledging that everything we have ultimately belongs to Him.
When you give, trust in God's faithfulness and His promise to provide for all your needs. He's got you covered. More than the actual gift, He cares about the attitude behind it. He wants your offering to be obedient and freely given, according to His commandments, and accompanied by a merciful heart, full of the desire to glorify Him. God makes it clear that He's not pleased with offerings that are just going through the motions, you know, those traditional or ritualistic ones that lack a truly obedient and merciful heart, lacking the desire to glorify Him.
Then Abel brought the first lamb born to one of his sheep, killed it, and gave the best parts of it as an offering. The Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering,
Praise the Lord's glorious name; bring an offering and come into his Temple. Bow down before the Holy One when he appears;
As Jesus sat near the Temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money;then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny.He called his disciples together and said to them, “I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others.For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had—she gave all she had to live on.”
So if you are about to offer your gift to God at the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you,leave your gift there in front of the altar, go at once and make peace with your brother, and then come back and offer your gift to God.
all they do is think about what they would like to have. The righteous, however, can give, and give generously.
“So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.
You should each give, then, as you have decided, not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly.
Give to others, and God will give to you. Indeed, you will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands—all that you can hold. The measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you.”
May the Lord answer you when you are in trouble! May the God of Jacob protect you!May he send you help from his Temple and give you aid from Mount Zion.May he accept all your offerings and be pleased with all your sacrifices.
“Do not store up riches for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal.“So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.Instead, store up riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal.For your heart will always be where your riches are.
Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me.”
I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be burned—but if I have no love, this does me no good.
He will come to judge like one who refines and purifies silver. As a metalworker refines silver and gold, so the Lord's messenger will purify the priests, so that they will bring to the Lord the right kind of offerings.
For the churches in Macedonia and Achaia have freely decided to give an offering to help the poor among God's people in Jerusalem.
And God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause.
And God, who supplies seed for the sower and bread to eat, will also supply you with all the seed you need and will make it grow and produce a rich harvest from your generosity.
Remember that the person who plants few seeds will have a small crop; the one who plants many seeds will have a large crop.
Now, concerning what you wrote about the money to be raised to help God's people in Judea. You must do what I told the churches in Galatia to do.If Timothy comes your way, be sure to make him feel welcome among you, because he is working for the Lord, just as I am.No one should look down on him, but you must help him continue his trip in peace, so that he will come back to me; for I am expecting him back with the believers.Now, about brother Apollos. I have often encouraged him to visit you with the other believers, but he is not completely convinced that he should go at this time. When he gets the chance, however, he will go. Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong.Do all your work in love.You know about Stephanas and his family; they are the first Christian converts in Achaia and have given themselves to the service of God's people. I beg you, my friends,to follow the leadership of such people as these, and of anyone else who works and serves with them.I am happy about the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus; they have made up for your absenceand have cheered me up, just as they cheered you up. Such men as these deserve notice.The churches in the province of Asia send you their greetings; Aquila and Priscilla and the church that meets in their house send warm Christian greetings.Every Sunday each of you must put aside some money, in proportion to what you have earned, and save it up, so that there will be no need to collect money when I come.
Bring the full amount of your tithes to the Temple, so that there will be plenty of food there. Put me to the test and you will see that I will open the windows of heaven and pour out on you in abundance all kinds of good things.
Do not forget to do good and to help one another, because these are the sacrifices that please God.
Some people spend their money freely and still grow richer. Others are cautious, and yet grow poorer.
“When you kill an animal for a fellowship offering, keep the regulations that I have given you, and I will accept the offering.
He will always make you rich enough to be generous at all times, so that many will thank God for your gifts which they receive from us.
Give to everyone who asks you for something, and when someone takes what is yours, do not ask for it back.
Here, then, is my receipt for everything you have given me—and it has been more than enough! I have all I need now that Epaphroditus has brought me all your gifts. They are like a sweet-smelling offering to God, a sacrifice which is acceptable and pleasing to him.
“Make certain you do not perform your religious duties in public so that people will see what you do. If you do these things publicly, you will not have any reward from your Father in heaven. may your Kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.Give us today the food we need. Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One.’ “If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you.But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done.“And when you fast, do not put on a sad face as the hypocrites do. They neglect their appearance so that everyone will see that they are fasting. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.When you go without food, wash your face and comb your hair,so that others cannot know that you are fasting—only your Father, who is unseen, will know. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.“Do not store up riches for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal.“So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.Instead, store up riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal.For your heart will always be where your riches are.“The eyes are like a lamp for the body. If your eyes are sound, your whole body will be full of light;but if your eyes are no good, your body will be in darkness. So if the light in you is darkness, how terribly dark it will be!“You cannot be a slave of two masters; you will hate one and love the other; you will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.“This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes?Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds?Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying about it? “And why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow: they do not work or make clothes for themselves.But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth had clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers.But when you help a needy person, do it in such a way that even your closest friend will not know about it.It is God who clothes the wild grass—grass that is here today and gone tomorrow, burned up in the oven. Won't he be all the more sure to clothe you? What little faith you have!“So do not start worrying: ‘Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?’(These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things.Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.Then it will be a private matter. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.
After some time Cain brought some of his harvest and gave it as an offering to the Lord.Then Abel brought the first lamb born to one of his sheep, killed it, and gave the best parts of it as an offering. The Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering,but he rejected Cain and his offering. Cain became furious, and he scowled in anger.
Make an offering to the Lord. Everyone who wishes to do so is to bring an offering of gold, silver, or bronze;
When you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, follow the rules so that you will be accepted;
as he is able, in proportion to the blessings that the Lord your God has given him.
You do not want sacrifices, or I would offer them; you are not pleased with burnt offerings.My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart.
“Yet my people and I cannot really give you anything, because everything is a gift from you, and we have only given back what is yours already.
Jesus looked around and saw rich people dropping their gifts in the Temple treasury,He went on to say, “Countries will fight each other; kingdoms will attack one another.There will be terrible earthquakes, famines, and plagues everywhere; there will be strange and terrifying things coming from the sky.Before all these things take place, however, you will be arrested and persecuted; you will be handed over to be tried in synagogues and be put in prison; you will be brought before kings and rulers for my sake.This will be your chance to tell the Good News.Make up your minds ahead of time not to worry about how you will defend yourselves,because I will give you such words and wisdom that none of your enemies will be able to refute or contradict what you say.You will be handed over by your parents, your brothers, your relatives, and your friends; and some of you will be put to death.Everyone will hate you because of me.But not a single hair from your heads will be lost.Stand firm, and you will save yourselves.and he also saw a very poor widow dropping in two little copper coins.“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that it will soon be destroyed.Then those who are in Judea must run away to the hills; those who are in the city must leave, and those who are out in the country must not go into the city.For those will be ‘The Days of Punishment,’ to make come true all that the Scriptures say.How terrible it will be in those days for women who are pregnant and for mothers with little babies! Terrible distress will come upon this land, and God's punishment will fall on this people.Some will be killed by the sword, and others will be taken as prisoners to all countries; and the heathen will trample over Jerusalem until their time is up.“There will be strange things happening to the sun, the moon, and the stars. On earth whole countries will be in despair, afraid of the roar of the sea and the raging tides.People will faint from fear as they wait for what is coming over the whole earth, for the powers in space will be driven from their courses.Then the Son of Man will appear, coming in a cloud with great power and glory.When these things begin to happen, stand up and raise your heads, because your salvation is near.”Then Jesus told them this parable: “Think of the fig tree and all the other trees.He said, “I tell you that this poor widow put in more than all the others.When you see their leaves beginning to appear, you know that summer is near.In the same way, when you see these things happening, you will know that the Kingdom of God is about to come.“Remember that all these things will take place before the people now living have all died.Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.“Be careful not to let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life, or that Day may suddenly catch youlike a trap. For it will come upon all people everywhere on earth.Be on watch and pray always that you will have the strength to go safely through all those things that will happen and to stand before the Son of Man.”Jesus spent those days teaching in the Temple, and when evening came, he would go out and spend the night on the Mount of Olives.Early each morning all the people went to the Temple to listen to him.For the others offered their gifts from what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, gave all she had to live on.”
So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.
“Tell the Israelites to make an offering to me. Receive whatever offerings anyone wishes to give.
Come as living stones, and let yourselves be used in building the spiritual temple, where you will serve as holy priests to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ.
As soon as the order was given, the people of Israel brought gifts of their finest grain, wine, olive oil, honey, and other farm produce, and they also brought the tithes of everything they had.
Let those who wept as they planted their crops, gather the harvest with joy!Those who wept as they went out carrying the seed will come back singing for joy, as they bring in the harvest.
Every Sunday each of you must put aside some money, in proportion to what you have earned, and save it up, so that there will be no need to collect money when I come.
If you are eager to give, God will accept your gift on the basis of what you have to give, not on what you don't have.
As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
The Lord is God; he has been good to us. With branches in your hands, start the festival and march around the altar.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.Remember that the Lord will give you as a reward what he has kept for his people. For Christ is the real Master you serve.
Do not deceive yourselves; no one makes a fool of God. You will reap exactly what you plant.If you plant in the field of your natural desires, from it you will gather the harvest of death; if you plant in the field of the Spirit, from the Spirit you will gather the harvest of eternal life.So let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.
Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving; go into its courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise him.
“The kind of fasting I want is this: Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice, and let the oppressed go free.Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own relatives.
It was faith that made Abel offer to God a better sacrifice than Cain's. Through his faith he won God's approval as a righteous man, because God himself approved of his gifts. By means of his faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
Right now, however, I am going to Jerusalem in the service of God's people there.For the churches in Macedonia and Achaia have freely decided to give an offering to help the poor among God's people in Jerusalem.
Command them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share with others.In this way they will store up for themselves a treasure which will be a solid foundation for the future. And then they will be able to win the life which is true life.
What can I offer the Lord for all his goodness to me?I will bring a wine offering to the Lord, to thank him for saving me.In the assembly of all his people I will give him what I have promised.
If we are rich and see others in need, yet close our hearts against them, how can we claim that we love God?My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.
So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you. Lord, you are my God; I will give you thanks forever.
Let us, then, always offer praise to God as our sacrifice through Jesus, which is the offering presented by lips that confess him as Lord.
The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope.Good people suffer many troubles, but the Lord saves them from them all;
We have sown spiritual seed among you. Is it too much if we reap material benefits from you?
to be shepherds of the flock that God gave you and to take care of it willingly, as God wants you to, and not unwillingly. Do your work, not for mere pay, but from a real desire to serve.Do not try to rule over those who have been put in your care, but be examples to the flock.
If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship.
Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning.
be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.
