In the Bible, offering is all about showing gratitude to God. Back in Moses' time, God taught the Israelites about different kinds of offerings. They were to offer a portion of their wealth as thanks for the land God had given them. These offerings were usually things like wheat, barley, oil, and animals – basically a tenth of their income, or what we call a tithe.
Leviticus talks about offerings required when someone was dishonest, maybe about something they were supposed to be looking after, or if they stole, cheated, lied about lost property, or broke an oath. There were five main types of offerings: burnt offerings, grain offerings, peace offerings, sin offerings, and guilt offerings.
Throughout the Bible, we see different ways to give offerings. Sometimes it's to make things right with someone you've wronged, and sometimes it's simply to say "thank you" to God and seek His blessing. The reasons and situations are all over the map, but what really matters to God is the heart behind the offering – a genuine desire to connect with Him.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
When you sacrifice a peace offering to the Lord, you shall offer it for your acceptance.
“Go to Bethel and transgress; rebel even more at Gilgal! Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days.
Early the next morning, Jacob took the stone that he had placed under his head, and he set it up as a pillar. He poured oil on top of it,and he called that place Bethel, though previously the city had been named Luz. “Go at once to Paddan-aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel, and take a wife from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, and if He will provide me with food to eat and clothes to wear,so that I may return safely to my father’s house, then the Lord will be my God.And this stone I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give You a tenth.”
then the Lord your God will choose a dwelling for His Name. And there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice offerings you vow to the Lord.
Then Noah built an altar to the Lord. And taking from every kind of clean animal and clean bird, he offered burnt offerings on the altar.When the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, He said in His heart, “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from his youth. No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed.Everyone must appear with a gift as he is able, according to the blessing the Lord your God has given you.
They brought as their offering before the Lord six covered carts and twelve oxen—an ox from each leader and a cart from every two leaders—and presented them before the tabernacle.
If anyone sacrifices to any god other than the Lord alone, he must be set apart for destruction.

Then burn the entire ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord.
And if one of the common people sins unintentionally and does what is prohibited by any of the Lord’s commandments, he incurs guilt.When he becomes aware of the sin he has committed, he must bring an unblemished female goat as his offering for that sin.He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering.If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the Lord a young bull without blemish as a sin offering for the sin he has committed.Then the priest is to take some of its blood with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.Then he is to remove all the fat, just as it is removed from the peace offering, and the priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven.
Sacrifice a bull as a sin offering each day for atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it.For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will become most holy; whatever touches the altar will be holy.
If one’s offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to present an unblemished male. He must bring it to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for its acceptance before the Lord.He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so it can be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.
If someone incurs guilt in one of these ways, he must confess the sin he has committed,and he must bring his guilt offering to the Lord for the sin he has committed: a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. And the priest will make atonement for him concerning his sin.
“What good to Me is your multitude of sacrifices?” says the Lord. “I am full from the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I take no delight in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.

For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the realities themselves. and you present an offering made by fire to the Lord from the herd or flock to produce a pleasing aroma to the Lord—either a burnt offering or a sacrifice, for a special vow or freewill offering or appointed feast—
For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord of Hosts.
Present the meat and blood of your burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord your God. The blood of your other sacrifices must be poured out beside the altar of the Lord your God, but you may eat the meat.
But Samuel declared: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to His voice? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, and attentiveness is better than the fat of rams.
“If one’s offering is a peace offering and he offers an animal from the herd, whether male or female, he must present it without blemish before the Lord.both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he is to remove with the kidneys.Then the priest is to burn them on the altar as food, an offering made by fire to the Lord.If one’s offering is a goat, he is to present it before the Lord.He must lay his hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the Tent of Meeting. All the fat is the Lord’s.This is a permanent statute for the generations to come, wherever you live: You must not eat any fat or any blood.”
And tell them that this is the offering made by fire you are to present to the Lord as a regular burnt offering each day: two unblemished year-old male lambs.Include one male goat to make atonement for you.Offer them with their drink offerings in addition to the regular burnt offering and its grain offering. The animals must be unblemished.Offer one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight,
On that same day the king consecrated the middle of the courtyard in front of the house of the Lord, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the Lord was too small to contain all these offerings.
When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.

But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
If only you had known the meaning of ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
and to love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, which is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God.
Otherwise, Christ would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,leave your gift there before the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
He did not enter by the blood of goats and calves, but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, thus securing eternal redemption.
