When you choose to live without God, it's easy to lose that awareness of Him and start making choices that aren't aligned with His ways. Maybe you haven't truly encountered Him yet. Our hearts can be so deceitful, always looking for ways to satisfy our own twisted desires, driven by that inner restlessness.
The only way to live a righteous life is to keep God's word close to your heart and follow His will. That's how genuine goodness grows from deep within.
God isn't pleased when offerings are misused. They should be used to grow His work and spread the Gospel to everyone, fulfilling the command He gave us. Prayer is key to making sure your offerings are used the right way and that you're following God's leading.
'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?'You blind men! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
You shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I am casting out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. But I have said to you, "You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey." I am YHWH your God, who has separated you from the peoples."'You shall therefore make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean fowl and the clean: and you shall not make yourselves abominable by animal, or by bird, or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have separated from you as unclean for you.
You shall not sacrifice to YHWH your God an ox, or a sheep, in which is a blemish, or anything evil; for that is an abomination to YHWH your God.
He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others."Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.'But the tax collector, standing far away, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!'I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.
Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me! But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings.
"If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
for all these put in gifts from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on."
Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. YHWH respected Abel and his offering, but he did not respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.
"A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? Says YHWH Sabaoth to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?'You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, 'How have we polluted you?' In that you say, 'YHWH's table contemptible.'When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn't that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn't that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?" says YHWH Sabaoth.
that you may be accepted, you shall offer a male without blemish, of the bulls, of the sheep, or of the goats. But whatever has a blemish, that you shall not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you.
As time passed, it happened that Cain brought an offering to YHWH from the fruit of the ground.Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. YHWH respected Abel and his offering, but he did not respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.
If it has any blemish, is lame or blind, or has any defect whatever, you shall not sacrifice it to YHWH your God.
But whatever has a blemish, that you shall not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you.Whoever offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to YHWH to accomplish a vow, or for a freewill offering, of the herd or of the flock, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein.Blind, injured, maimed, having a wart, festering, or having a running sore, you shall not offer these to YHWH, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to YHWH.
When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn't that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn't that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?" says YHWH Sabaoth.
You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, 'How have we polluted you?' In that you say, 'YHWH's table contemptible.'
"'When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to YHWH, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.
You say also, 'Behold, what a weariness it is!' and you have sniffed at it," says YHWH Sabaoth; "and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?" says YHWH."But the deceiver is cursed, who has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King," says YHWH Sabaoth, "and my name is awesome among the nations."
Samuel said, "Has YHWH as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of YHWH? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats:
Besides the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, you shall offer them (they shall be to you without blemish), and their drink offerings.
"What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?," says YHWH. "I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats. When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies.
"Thus says the Lord GOD: 'Let it suffice you, princes of Israel: remove violence and spoil, and execute justice and righteousness; dispossessing my people, says the Lord GOD.You shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath.
He looked up, and saw the rich people who were putting their gifts into the treasury. He saw a certain poor widow casting in two small brass coins. He said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them, for all these put in gifts from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on."
The Lord said, "Because this people draws near with their mouth and with their lips to honor me, but they have removed their heart far from me, but in vain do they worship me, teaching the commandments and doctrines of men.
To what purpose comes there to me frankincense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing to me.'
'These people honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.And in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'"
But do not forget to be doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can't stand your solemn assemblies.Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.
The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to YHWH, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
How shall I come before YHWH, and bow myself before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will YHWH be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does YHWH require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
"Be careful that you do not do your righteousness before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Therefore when you do merciful deeds, do not sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from people. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you do merciful deeds, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does,so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
For you do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
'Take from among you an offering to YHWH. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, YHWH's offering: gold, silver, brass,
And he sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much.A poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.He called his disciples to himself, and said to them, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury, for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on."
You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
If I dole out all my goods to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.
"But the deceiver is cursed, who has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King," says YHWH Sabaoth, "and my name is awesome among the nations."
Do not be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
You ask, and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
Guard your steps when you go to God's house; for to draw near to listen is better than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
Who may ascend to YHWH's hill? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully.
Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me! But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation.Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this," says YHWH Sabaoth, "if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for.
or he who exhorts, to his exhorting: he who gives, let him do it with liberality; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you do not have. For this is not that others may be eased and you distressed, but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack; that there may be equality. As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack."
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sappirah, his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part, and put it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While you kept it, did not it remain your own? After it was sold, was not it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God."
Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
He said to them, "Beware! Keep yourselves from all covetousness, for a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses."
By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.
On the first day of the week, let each one of you save, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come.
For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them."
Turn my heart toward your statutes, not toward selfish gain.Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.
Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold of that which is truly life.
