Our hearts can be so deceitful, always looking for ways to satisfy our own twisted desires, driven by that inner restlessness.
The only way to live a righteous life is to keep God's word close to your heart and follow His will. That's how genuine goodness grows from deep within.
God isn't pleased when offerings are misused. They should be used to grow His work and spread the Gospel to everyone, fulfilling the command He gave us. Prayer is key to making sure your offerings are used the right way and that you're following God's leading.
You also teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the altar. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gift on the altar.Are you blind? Which is more important, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?

The Lord has said: “These people praise me with their words, but they never really think about me. They worship me by repeating rules made up by humans.
People of Judah, you bring me incense from Sheba and spices from distant lands. You offer sacrifices of all kinds. But why bother? I hate these gifts of yours!
“All of you praise me with your words, but you never really think about me.It is useless for you to worship me, when you teach rules made up by humans.”
But don't forget to help others and to share your possessions with them. This too is like offering a sacrifice that pleases God.

When they are good, you have all the light you need.But when your eyes are bad, everything is dark. If the light inside you is dark, you surely are in the dark.You cannot be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You cannot serve both God and money.I tell you not to worry about your life. Don't worry about having something to eat, drink, or wear. Isn't life more than food or clothing?Look at the birds in the sky! They don't plant or harvest. They don't even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them. Aren't you worth much more than birds?Can worry make you live longer?Why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow. They don't work hard to make their clothes.But I tell you that Solomon with all his wealth wasn't as well clothed as one of them.When you give to the poor, don't let anyone know about it.God gives such beauty to everything that grows in the fields, even though it is here today and thrown into a fire tomorrow. God will surely do even more for you! Why do you have such little faith?Don't worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?”Only people who don't know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows you need all of these.But more than anything else, put God's work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today.Then your gift will be given in secret. Your Father knows what is done in secret and will reward you.
Offerings and sacrifices are not what you want.The way to please you is to be truly sorry deep in our hearts. This is the kind of sacrifice you won't refuse.
You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either.
I will welcome an offering from anyone who wants to give something. You may bring gold, silver, or bronze;
Jesus was sitting in the temple near the offering box and watching people put in their gifts. He noticed that many rich people were giving a lot of money.Finally, a poor widow came up and put in two coins worth only a few pennies.Jesus told his disciples to gather around him. Show that I am right, Lord! I stay true to myself, and I have trusted you without doubting.or full of meanness or who bribe others.I stay true to myself. Be kind and rescue me.Now I stand on solid ground! And when your people meet, I will praise you, Lord.Test my thoughts and find out what I am like.
What if I gave away all that I owned and let myself be burned alive? I would gain nothing, unless I loved others.
Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That's the most sensible way to serve God.

Then go ahead and enjoy working hard—this is God's gift to you.Don't talk before you think or make promises to God without thinking them through. God is in heaven, and you are on earth, so don't talk too much.
Who may climb the Lord's hill or stand in his holy temple?Only those who do right for the right reasons, and don't worship idols or tell lies under oath.
If we can encourage others, we should encourage them. If we can give, we should be generous. If we are leaders, we should do our best. If we are good to others, we should do it cheerfully.
It doesn't matter how much you have. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you have.I am not trying to make life easier for others by making life harder for you. But it is only fairfor you to share with them when you have so much, and they have so little. Later, when they have more than enough, and you are in need, they can share with you. Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property.At once she fell at Peter's feet and died. When the young men came back in, they found Sapphira lying there dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what had happened.The apostles worked many miracles and wonders among the people. All of the Lord's followers often met in the part of the temple known as Solomon's Porch.No one outside their group dared join them, even though everyone liked them very much.Many men and women started having faith in the Lord.Then sick people were brought out to the road and placed on mats. It was hoped that Peter would walk by, and his shadow would fall on them and heal them.A lot of people living in the towns near Jerusalem brought those who were sick or troubled by evil spirits, and they were all healed.The high priest and all the other Sadducees who were with him became jealous.They arrested the apostles and put them in the city jail.But that night an angel from the Lord opened the doors of the jail and led the apostles out. The angel said,But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves. But when we opened the doors and went in, we didn't find anyone there.”The captain of the temple police and the chief priests listened to their report, but they did not know what to think about it.Just then someone came in and said, “Now those men you put in jail are in the temple, teaching the people!”The captain went with some of the temple police and brought the apostles back. But they did not use force. They were afraid that the people might start throwing stones at them.When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them,“We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death.” Peter and the apostles replied: We don't obey people. But the God our ancestors worshiped raised him to lifeand made him our Leader and Savior. Then God gave him a place at his right side, so that the people of Israel would turn back to him and be forgiven.We are here to tell you about all this, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to everyone who obeys God.When the council members heard this, they became so angry they wanted to kill the apostles.But one of the members was the Pharisee Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher. He ordered the apostles to be taken out of the room for a little while.Then he said to the council: Men of Israel, be careful what you do with these men.Not long ago Theudas claimed to be someone important, and about 400 men joined him. But he was killed, and all his followers were scattered. That was the end of that.Later, when the people of our nation were being counted, Judas from Galilee showed up. A lot of people followed him, but he was killed, and all his followers were scattered.So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail.But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God. The council members agreed with what he said,The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!”
Not everyone who calls me their Lord will get into the kingdom of heaven. Only the ones who obey my Father in heaven will get in.
Then he said to the crowd, “Don't be greedy! Owning a lot of things won't make your life safe.”
Because Abel had faith, he offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. God was pleased with him and his gift, and even though Abel is now dead, his faith still speaks for him.
That is, each Sunday each of you must put aside part of what you have earned. If you do this, you won't have to take up a collection when I come.
Anyone who tries to please God by obeying the Law is under a curse. The Scriptures say, “Everyone who doesn't obey everything in the Law is under a curse.”
Make me want to obey you, rather than to be rich.Take away my foolish desires, and let me find life by walking with you.
Jesus replied, “If you want to be perfect, go sell everything you own! Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come and be my follower.”
Warn the rich people of this world not to be proud or to trust in wealth that is easily lost. Tell them to have faith in God, who is rich and blesses us with everything we need to enjoy life.Instruct them to do as many good deeds as they can and to help everyone. Remind the rich to be generous and share what they have.This will lay a solid foundation for the future, so they will know what true life is like.
