Think about first fruits – that special offering we give to God. It's a way of saying "thank you" and showing our love for Him. In the Bible, it's often talked about with the first harvest or the firstborn livestock. But it's so much deeper than that, isn't it?
Giving our first fruits is really about acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. It's about honoring Him by giving Him the first and the best – not the leftovers. It's an act of trust, like saying, "God, I know you'll provide. I know you're the owner of everything, and I depend on you."
It's a good reminder to put God first in everything – not just our money, but our time, our talents, how we use what we have, even the decisions we make every single day. When we put God first, we're saying, "I trust you, God. I want your guidance in everything I do."
It's like James 1:181 says, "He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created." That's pretty powerful, to think of ourselves as God's first fruits.
But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
If the dough offered as first fruits is holy, so is the whole lump; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
“Say to the people of Israel, When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest;and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, that you may find acceptance; on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
“When you come into the land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance, and have taken possession of it, and live in it,And behold, now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground, which thou, O Lord, hast given me.’ And you shall set it down before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God;and you shall rejoice in all the good which the Lord your God has given to you and to your house, you, and the Levite, and the sojourner who is among you.“When you have finished paying all the tithe of your produce in the third year, which is the year of tithing, giving it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within your towns and be filled,then you shall say before the Lord your God, ‘I have removed the sacred portion out of my house, and moreover I have given it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all thy commandment which thou hast commanded me; I have not transgressed any of thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them;I have not eaten of the tithe while I was mourning, or removed any of it while I was unclean, or offered any of it to the dead; I have obeyed the voice of the Lord my God, I have done according to all that thou hast commanded me.Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel and the ground which thou hast given us, as thou didst swear to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.’“This day the Lord your God commands you to do these statutes and ordinances; you shall therefore be careful to do them with all your heart and with all your soul.You have declared this day concerning the Lord that he is your God, and that you will walk in his ways, and keep his statutes and his commandments and his ordinances, and will obey his voice;and the Lord has declared this day concerning you that you are a people for his own possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments,that he will set you high above all nations that he has made, in praise and in fame and in honor, and that you shall be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he has spoken.”you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God gives you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place which the Lord your God will choose, to make his name to dwell there.
And the first of all the first fruits of all kinds, and every offering of all kinds from all your offerings, shall belong to the priests; you shall also give to the priests the first of your coarse meal, that a blessing may rest on your house.
and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine and of the grain, the first fruits of what they give to the Lord, I give to you.The first ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring to the Lord, shall be yours; every one who is clean in your house may eat of it.
The first fruits of your grain, of your wine and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.
Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
You shall keep the feast of harvest, of the first fruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. You shall keep the feast of ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in from the field the fruit of your labor.
Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
As an offering of first fruits you may bring them to the Lord, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing odor.
and Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering,
“Consecrate to me all the first-born; whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.”
We obligate ourselves to bring the first fruits of our ground and the first fruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord;also to bring to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God, the first-born of our sons and of our cattle, as it is written in the law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks;and to bring the first of our coarse meal, and our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and to bring to the Levites the tithes from our ground, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all our rural towns.
“You shall not delay to offer from the fulness of your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. “The first-born of your sons you shall give to me.
“When you come into the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden; three years it shall be forbidden to you, it must not be eaten.And in the fourth year all their fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord.But in the fifth year you may eat of their fruit, that they may yield more richly for you: I am the Lord your God.
We obligate ourselves to bring the first fruits of our ground and the first fruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord;
Of the first of your coarse meal you shall present a cake as an offering; as an offering from the threshing floor, so shall you present it.Of the first of your coarse meal you shall give to the Lord an offering throughout your generations.

And you shall observe the feast of weeks, the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.

“If you offer a cereal offering of first fruits to the Lord, you shall offer for the cereal offering of your first fruits crushed new grain from fresh ears, parched with fire.
“You shall tithe all the yield of your seed, which comes forth from the field year by year.And before the Lord your God, in the place which he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and flock; that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.
Of the first of your coarse meal you shall give to the Lord an offering throughout your generations.
“On the day of the first fruits, when you offer a cereal offering of new grain to the Lord at your feast of weeks, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work,
All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine and of the grain, the first fruits of what they give to the Lord, I give to you.
In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground,and Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering,but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

On that day men were appointed over the chambers for the stores, the contributions, the first fruits, and the tithes, to gather into them the portions required by the law for the priests and for the Levites according to the fields of the towns; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and the Levites who ministered.
And he commanded the people who lived in Jerusalem to give the portion due to the priests and the Levites, that they might give themselves to the law of the Lord.As soon as the command was spread abroad, the people of Israel gave in abundance the first fruits of grain, wine, oil, honey, and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in abundantly the tithe of everything.
He smote all the first-born in Egypt, the first issue of their strength in the tents of Ham.
and I provided for the wood offering, at appointed times, and for the first fruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
Take from among you an offering to the Lord; whoever is of a generous heart, let him bring the Lord's offering: gold, silver, and bronze;
They shall not sell or exchange any of it; they shall not alienate this choice portion of the land, for it is holy to the Lord.
So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let neither man nor woman do anything more for the offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing;for the stuff they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.
The point is this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.
give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”
I have received full payment, and more; I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
One man gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.A liberal man will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
And all the tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord.A man shall not inquire whether it is good or bad, neither shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges it, then both it and that for which it is exchanged shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”
On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that contributions need not be made when I come.

For great distress shall be upon the earth and wrath upon this people;they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees;And he said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them;as soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near.So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all has taken place.Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. “But take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a snare;for it will come upon all who dwell upon the face of the whole earth.But watch at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of man.” And every day he was teaching in the temple, but at night he went out and lodged on the mount called Olivet.And early in the morning all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had.”
There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of what was soldand laid it at the apostles' feet; and distribution was made to each as any had need.
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to thee; I will give thanks to thy name, O Lord, for it is good.
In all things I have shown you that by so toiling one must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from thee, and of thy own have we given thee.
For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou givest me I will give the tenth to thee.”
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.
“For on my holy mountain, the mountain height of Israel, says the Lord God, there all the house of Israel, all of them, shall serve me in the land; there I will accept them, and there I will require your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your sacred offerings.
As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy.They are to do good, to be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous,
So they came, both men and women; all who were of a willing heart brought brooches and earrings and signet rings and armlets, all sorts of gold objects, every man dedicating an offering of gold to the Lord.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness.You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God;
Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, ‘How have we despised thy name?’By offering polluted food upon my altar. And you say, ‘How have we polluted it?’ By thinking that the Lord's table may be despised.When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that no evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that no evil? Present that to your governor; will he be pleased with you or show you favor? says the Lord of hosts.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.
The Lord makes poor and makes rich; he brings low, he also exalts.He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and on them he has set the world.
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice.
and Jo-anna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.
Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: take some of the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down to the man a present, a little balm and a little honey, gum, myrrh, pistachio nuts, and almonds.
And all the princes and all the people rejoiced and brought their tax and dropped it into the chest until they had finished.And whenever the chest was brought to the king's officers by the Levites, when they saw that there was much money in it, the king's secretary and the officer of the chief priest would come and empty the chest and take it and return it to its place. Thus they did day after day, and collected money in abundance.
Every one who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord's offering.The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the Lord's offering to make atonement for yourselves.
Then you shall keep the feast of weeks to the Lord your God with the tribute of a freewill offering from your hand, which you shall give as the Lord your God blesses you;
For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. We will not neglect the house of our God.
“Come to Bethel, and transgress; to Gilgal, and multiply transgression; bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days;offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim freewill offerings, publish them; for so you love to do, O people of Israel!” says the Lord God.
And you shall go to the priest who is in office at that time, and say to him, ‘I declare this day to the Lord your God that I have come into the land which the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand, and set it down before the altar of the Lord your God.
Then the Lord said to Aaron, “And behold, I have given you whatever is kept of the offerings made to me, all the consecrated things of the people of Israel; I have given them to you as a portion, and to your sons as a perpetual due.
And when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord's passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he slew the Egyptians but spared our houses.’ ” And the people bowed their heads and worshiped.
This is the law of the burnt offering, of the cereal offering, of the sin offering, of the guilt offering, of the consecration, and of the peace offerings,
“What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the Lord; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of he-goats.“When you come to appear before me, who requires of you this trampling of my courts?Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and sabbath and the calling of assemblies— I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me, I am weary of bearing them.When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil,learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.
“Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light;but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
For thou hast no delight in sacrifice; were I to give a burnt offering, thou wouldst not be pleased.The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold.”
But if any one has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
He who oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.
And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come before him! Worship the Lord in holy array;
And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
He who gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which he has given you.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
“When any one brings a cereal offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour; he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense on it,And what is left of the cereal offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the offerings by fire to the Lord.“No cereal offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven; for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey as an offering by fire to the Lord.As an offering of first fruits you may bring them to the Lord, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing odor.You shall season all your cereal offerings with salt; you shall not let the salt of the covenant with your God be lacking from your cereal offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.“If you offer a cereal offering of first fruits to the Lord, you shall offer for the cereal offering of your first fruits crushed new grain from fresh ears, parched with fire.And you shall put oil upon it, and lay frankincense on it; it is a cereal offering.And the priest shall burn as its memorial portion part of the crushed grain and of the oil with all of its frankincense; it is an offering by fire to the Lord.and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense; and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion upon the altar, an offering by fire, a pleasing odor to the Lord.And what is left of the cereal offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the offerings by fire to the Lord.
And all who believed were together and had all things in common;and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need.
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Now as you excel in everything—in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for us—see that you excel in this gracious work also.
