Think about first fruits – that special offering we give to God. It's a way of saying "thank you" and showing our love for Him. In the Bible, it's often talked about with the first harvest or the firstborn livestock. But it's so much deeper than that, isn't it?
Giving our first fruits is really about acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. It's about honoring Him by giving Him the first and the best – not the leftovers. It's an act of trust, like saying, "God, I know you'll provide. I know you're the owner of everything, and I depend on you."
It's a good reminder to put God first in everything – not just our money, but our time, our talents, how we use what we have, even the decisions we make every single day. When we put God first, we're saying, "I trust you, God. I want your guidance in everything I do."
It's like James 1:181 says, "He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created." That's pretty powerful, to think of ourselves as God's first fruits.
But the fact is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are as well.
“Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you enter the land which I am going to give to you and you gather its harvest, then you shall bring in the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest.He shall wave the sheaf before the Lord for you to be accepted; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
“Then it shall be, when you enter the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and live in it,And now behold, I have brought the first of the produce of the ground which You, Lord have given me.’ Then you shall set it before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God;and you, the Levite, and the stranger who is among you shall rejoice in all the good which the Lord your God has given you and your household.“When you have finished paying all the tithe of your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan, and to the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.And you shall say before the Lord your God, ‘I have removed the sacred portion from my house, and have also given it to the Levite, the stranger, the orphan, and the widow, in accordance with all Your commandments which You have commanded me; I have not violated or forgotten any of Your commandments.I have not eaten of it while mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor offered any of it to the dead. I have listened to the voice of the Lord my God; I have acted in accordance with everything that You have commanded me.Look down from Your holy dwelling place, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel, and the ground which You have given us, a land flowing with milk and honey just as You swore to our fathers.’“This day the Lord your God commands you to perform these statutes and ordinances. Therefore you shall be careful to perform them with all your heart and with all your soul.Today you have declared the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His ordinances, and listen to His voice.And the Lord has today declared you to be His people, His personal possession, just as He promised you, and that you are to keep all His commandments;and that He will put you high above all the nations which He has made, for glory, fame, and honor; and that you shall be a consecrated people to the Lord your God, just as He has spoken.”that you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground which you bring in from your land that the Lord your God gives you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place where the Lord your God chooses to establish His name.
And the first of all the first fruits of every kind and every contribution of every kind, from all your contributions, shall be for the priests; you shall also give to the priest the first of your dough, to make a blessing rest on your house.
And not only that, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons and daughters, the redemption of our body.
All the best of the fresh oil and all the best of the fresh wine and of the grain, the first fruits of what they give to the Lord, I have given them to you.The first ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring to the Lord, shall be yours; everyone of your household who is clean may eat it.
You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the first fleece of your sheep.
And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

As an offering of first fruits you shall bring them to the Lord, but they shall not ascend as a soothing aroma on the altar.
Abel, on his part also brought an offering, from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering;
“Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the firstborn of every womb among the sons of Israel, among people and animals alike; it belongs to Me.”
and so that they could bring the first fruits of our ground and the first fruits of all the fruit of every tree to the house of the Lord annually,and bring to the house of our God the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, and the firstborn of our herds and our flocks as it is written in the Law, for the priests who are ministering in the house of our God.We will also bring the first of our dough, our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the new wine, and the oil to the priests at the chambers of the house of our God, and the tithe of our ground to the Levites, for the Levites are they who receive the tithes in all the rural towns.
“You shall not hold back the offering from your entire harvest and your wine. The firstborn of your sons you shall give to Me.
‘Now when you enter the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden. For three years it shall be forbidden to you; it shall not be eaten.And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord.But in the fifth year you shall eat its fruit, so that its yield may increase for you; I am the Lord your God.
and so that they could bring the first fruits of our ground and the first fruits of all the fruit of every tree to the house of the Lord annually,
Of the first of your dough you shall lift up a loaf as an offering; as an offering of the threshing floor, so you shall lift it up.From the first of your dough you shall give to the Lord an offering throughout your generations.

And you shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks, that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
“You shall bring the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the Lord your God. “You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
‘Also if you bring a grain offering of early ripened things to the Lord, you shall bring fresh heads of grain roasted in the fire, crushed grain of new growth, for the grain offering of your early ripened produce.
“You shall certainly tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes from the field every year.You shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God, at the place where He chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.
From the first of your dough you shall give to the Lord an offering throughout your generations.
‘Also on the day of the first fruits, when you present a new grain offering to the Lord in your Feast of Weeks, you shall have a holy assembly; you shall do no laborious work.
All the best of the fresh oil and all the best of the fresh wine and of the grain, the first fruits of what they give to the Lord, I have given them to you.
So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord from the fruit of the ground.Abel, on his part also brought an offering, from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering;but for Cain and his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his face was gloomy.

As soon as the order spread, the sons of Israel abundantly provided the first fruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in abundantly the tithe of everything.
On that day men were also appointed over the chambers for the supplies, the contributions, the first fruits, and the tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the cities the portions required by the Law for the priests and Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and the Levites who served.

But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,
Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”
But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in poverty.A generous person will be prosperous, And one who gives others plenty of water will himself be given plenty.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory of His name; Bring an offering and come into His courtyards.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.
For every tenth part of herd or flock, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord.He is not to be concerned whether it is good or bad, nor shall he exchange it; yet if he does exchange it, then both it and its substitute shall become holy. It shall not be redeemed.’ ”
On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save as he may prosper, so that no collections need to be made when I come.

And He saw a poor widow putting in two lepta coins.“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near.Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are inside the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city;because these are days of punishment, so that all things which have been written will be fulfilled.Woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land, and wrath to this people;and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.“There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,people fainting from fear and the expectation of the things that are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”And He told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees:And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them;as soon as they put forth leaves, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near.So you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near.Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.“But be on your guard, so that your hearts will not be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap;for it will come upon all those who live on the face of all the earth.But stay alert at all times, praying that you will have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”Now during the day He was teaching in the temple, but at evening He would go out and spend the night on the mountain that is called Olivet.And all the people would get up very early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him.for they all contributed to the offering from their surplus; but she, from her poverty, put in all that she had to live on.”
For there was not a needy person among them, for all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the salesand lay them at the apostles’ feet, and they would be distributed to each to the extent that any had need.
In everything I showed you that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
“But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given to You.
For if the willingness is present, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
And this stone, which I have set up as a memorial stone, will be God’s house, and of everything that You give me I will assuredly give a tenth to You.”
¶Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it.Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, And tomorrow I will give it to you,” When you have it with you.
For on My holy mountain, on the high mountain of Israel,” declares the Lord God, “there the entire house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land; there I will accept them and there I will demand your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your holy things.
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,
Then all whose hearts moved them, both men and women, came and brought brooches and earrings and signet rings and bracelets, all articles of gold; so did everyone who presented an offering of gold to the Lord.
Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness;you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God.
“Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor does a moth destroy.For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
And blessed be God Most High, Who has handed over your enemies to you.” And he gave him a tenth of everything.
“ ‘A son honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect?’ says the Lord of armies to you, the priests who despise My name! But you say, ‘How have we despised Your name?’You are presenting defiled food upon My altar. But you say, ‘How have we defiled You?’ In that you say, ‘The table of the Lord is to be despised.’And when you present a blind animal for sacrifice, is it not evil? Or when you present a lame or sick animal, is it not evil? So offer it to your governor! Would he be pleased with you, or would he receive you kindly?” says the Lord of armies.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with leprosy, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
“The Lord makes poor and rich; He humbles, He also exalts.“He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the garbage heap To seat them with nobles, And He gives them a seat of honor as an inheritance; For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And He set the world on them.
It goes well for a person who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment.
and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.
Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: take some of the best products of the land in your bags, and carry down to the man as a gift, a little balsam and a little honey, labdanum resin and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds.
All the officers and all the people rejoiced, and they brought in their contribution and dropped it into the chest until they had finished.It happened that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officer by the Levites, and they saw that the money was substantial, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer would come and empty the chest, and pick it up and return it to its place. They did this daily and collected a large amount of money.
Everyone who is counted, from twenty years old and over, shall give the contribution to the Lord.The rich shall not pay more, and the poor shall not pay less, than the half shekel, when you give the contribution to the Lord to make atonement for yourselves.
Then you shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God with a voluntary offering of your hand in a proportional amount, which you shall give just as the Lord your God blesses you;
For the sons of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of the grain, the new wine, and the oil to the chambers; the utensils of the sanctuary, the priests who are ministering, the gatekeepers, and the singers are there. So we will not neglect the house of our God.
¶“Enter Bethel and do wrong; In Gilgal multiply wrongdoing! Bring your sacrifices every morning, Your tithes every three days.“Offer a thanksgiving offering also from that which is leavened, And proclaim voluntary offerings, make them known. For so you love to do, you sons of Israel,” Declares the Lord God.
And you shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘I declare today to the Lord my God that I have entered the land which the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it before the altar of the Lord your God.
Then the Lord spoke to Aaron, “Now behold, I Myself have put you in charge of My offerings, all the holy gifts of the sons of Israel I have given to you as a portion and to your sons as a permanent allotment.
And when your children say to you, ‘What does this rite mean to you?’then you shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to the Lord because He passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians, but spared our homes.’ ” And the people bowed low and worshiped.
This is the law of the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering, and the ordination offering and the sacrifice of peace offerings,
“What are your many sacrifices to Me?” Says the Lord. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fattened cattle; And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs, or goats.“When you come to appear before Me, Who requires of you this trampling of My courtyards? “Do not go on bringing your worthless offerings, Incense is an abomination to Me. New moon and Sabbath, the proclamation of an assembly— I cannot endure wrongdoing and the festive assembly.“I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts, They have become a burden to Me; I am tired of bearing them.“So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you offer many prayers, I will not be listening. Your hands are covered with blood. ¶“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Stop doing evil,Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor, Obtain justice for the orphan, Plead for the widow’s case.
“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span?And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth,yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offering.The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, God, You will not despise.
But Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I am giving to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I am giving back four times as much.”
But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
One who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, But one who is gracious to the needy honors Him.
And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the Lord in holy attire.
And I will make you into a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing;
One who gives to the poor will never lack anything, But one who shuts his eyes will have many curses.
Everyone shall give as he is able, in accordance with the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.
Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
They shall also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing.
‘Now when anyone presents a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour, and he shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it.The remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons: a most holy part of the offerings to the Lord by fire.‘No grain offering, which you bring to the Lord, shall be made with leaven, for you shall not offer up in smoke any leaven or any honey as an offering by fire to the Lord.As an offering of first fruits you shall bring them to the Lord, but they shall not ascend as a soothing aroma on the altar.Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that the salt of the covenant of your God will not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.‘Also if you bring a grain offering of early ripened things to the Lord, you shall bring fresh heads of grain roasted in the fire, crushed grain of new growth, for the grain offering of your early ripened produce.You shall then put oil on it and place incense on it; it is a grain offering.Then the priest shall offer up in smoke its memorial portion, part of its crushed grain and its oil with all its incense as an offering by fire to the Lord.He shall then bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests; and he shall take from it his handful of its fine flour and of its oil, with all of its frankincense. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke as its memorial portion on the altar, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the Lord.The remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons: a most holy part of the offerings to the Lord by fire.
And all the believers were together and had all things in common;and they would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need.
So if you, despite being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
But just as you excel in everything, in faith, speaking, knowledge, and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you, see that you also excel in this gracious work.
