Food is something I think about a lot, and it's all over the Bible too. Right from the beginning, in Genesis, it talks about fruits and plants as nourishment. There's a lot in the Old Testament about which foods are okay to eat and which aren't.
I'm also really struck by how many times in the New Testament Jesus shares meals with his followers. It feels like such a powerful image of connection and community. And the idea of treating our bodies like temples of the Holy Spirit– that really makes me think about what I'm putting into mine.
It's like food isn't just about keeping us going physically, you know? It's a way to connect with God and with each other. It's something to be mindful of and grateful for.
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
And had rained down manna upon them to eat, And had given them of the corn of heaven.Man did eat angels' food: He sent them meat to the full.
Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; But to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:and whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.
then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
that I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
The eyes of all wait upon thee; And thou givest them their meat in due season.Thou openest thine hand, And satisfiest the desire of every living thing.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: But they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, And herb for the service of man: That he may bring forth food out of the earth;And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, And oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
for the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: But he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
Remove far from me vanity and lies: Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with food convenient for me:Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And take the name of my God in vain.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
