God is my savior; I will trust him and not be afraid. The Lord gives me power and strength; he is my savior. As fresh water brings joy to the thirsty, so God's people rejoice when he saves them.”
You love him, although you have not seen him, and you believe in him, although you do not now see him. So you rejoice with a great and glorious joy which words cannot express, because you are receiving the salvation of your souls, which is the purpose of your faith in him.
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jerusalem rejoices because of what the Lord has done. She is like a bride dressed for her wedding. God has clothed her with salvation and victory.
Now that we have been put right with God through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We were God's enemies, but he made us his friends through the death of his Son. Now that we are God's friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ's life! But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God's friends.Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned. There was sin in the world before the Law was given; but where there is no law, no account is kept of sins. But from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, death ruled over all human beings, even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam did when he disobeyed God's command. Adam was a figure of the one who was to come. But the two are not the same, because God's free gift is not like Adam's sin. It is true that many people died because of the sin of that one man. But God's grace is much greater, and so is his free gift to so many people through the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ. And there is a difference between God's gift and the sin of one man. After the one sin, came the judgment of “Guilty”; but after so many sins, comes the undeserved gift of “Not guilty!”It is true that through the sin of one man death began to rule because of that one man. But how much greater is the result of what was done by the one man, Jesus Christ! All who receive God's abundant grace and are freely put right with him will rule in life through Christ. So then, as the one sin condemned all people, in the same way the one righteous act sets all people free and gives them life. And just as all people were made sinners as the result of the disobedience of one man, in the same way they will all be put right with God as the result of the obedience of the one man.He has brought us by faith into this experience of God's grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God's glory!
The king is glad, O Lord, because you gave him strength; he rejoices because you made him victorious.
But don't be glad because the evil spirits obey you; rather be glad because your names are written in heaven.”
that I may stand before the people of Jerusalem and tell them all the things for which I praise you. I will rejoice because you saved me.
When it happens, everyone will say, “He is our God! We have put our trust in him, and he has rescued us. He is the Lord! We have put our trust in him, and now we are happy and joyful because he has saved us.”
The Lord makes me powerful and strong; he has saved me.Listen to the glad shouts of victory in the tents of God's people: “The Lord's mighty power has done it!
Sing to the Lord, all the world! Proclaim every day the good news that he has saved us.Proclaim his glory to the nations, his mighty deeds to all peoples.
Shout for joy, you heavens! Shout, deep places of the earth! Shout for joy, mountains, and every tree of the forest! The Lord has shown his greatness by saving his people Israel.
For sin pays its wage—death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.
Be joyful always, pray at all times,be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.
How we laughed, how we sang for joy! Then the other nations said about us, “The Lord did great things for them.”Indeed he did great things for us; how happy we were!
You that are righteous, be glad and rejoice because of what the Lord has done. You that obey him, shout for joy!
In conclusion, my friends, be joyful in your union with the Lord. I don't mind repeating what I have written before, and you will be safer if I do so.
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your happiness may be complete.
Now go home and have a feast. Share your food and wine with those who don't have enough. Today is holy to our Lord, so don't be sad. The joy that the Lord gives you will make you strong.”
You imitated us and the Lord; and even though you suffered much, you received the message with the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit.
May all who come to you be glad and joyful. May all who are thankful for your salvation always say, “How great is God!”
They will reach Jerusalem with gladness, singing and shouting for joy. They will be happy forever, forever free from sorrow and grief.
You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance; you have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy.So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you. Lord, you are my God; I will give you thanks forever.
But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God's friends.
It does not matter! I am happy about it—just so Christ is preached in every way possible, whether from wrong or right motives. And I will continue to be happy,
In the same way, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine respectable people who do not need to repent.
All you that are righteous, shout for joy for what the Lord has done; praise him, all you that obey him.
All righteous people will rejoice because of what the Lord has done. They will find safety in him; all good people will praise him.
But all who find safety in you will rejoice; they can always sing for joy. Protect those who love you; because of you they are truly happy.
Sing, heavens! Shout for joy, earth! Let the mountains burst into song! The Lord will comfort his people; he will have pity on his suffering people.
Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven. This is how the prophets who lived before you were persecuted.
The Lord your God is with you; his power gives you victory. The Lord will take delight in you, and in his love he will give you new life. He will sing and be joyful over you,
You will show me the path that leads to life; your presence fills me with joy and brings me pleasure forever.
The Lord protects and defends me; I trust in him. He gives me help and makes me glad; I praise him with joyful songs.
Then the young women will dance and be happy, and men, young and old, will rejoice. I will comfort them and turn their mourning into joy, their sorrow into gladness.
May all who come to you be glad and joyful. May all who are thankful for your salvation always say, “How great is the Lord!”
So then, my friends, how dear you are to me and how I miss you! How happy you make me, and how proud I am of you!—this, dear friends, is how you should stand firm in your life in the Lord.
His anger lasts only a moment, his goodness for a lifetime. Tears may flow in the night, but joy comes in the morning.
How wonderful it is to see a messenger coming across the mountains, bringing good news, the news of peace! He announces victory and says to Zion, “Your God is king!”Those who guard the city are shouting, shouting together for joy. They can see with their own eyes the return of the Lord to Zion.Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem! The Lord will rescue his city and comfort his people.
Hannah prayed: “The Lord has filled my heart with joy; how happy I am because of what he has done! I laugh at my enemies; how joyful I am because God has helped me!
I will shout for joy as I play for you; with my whole being I will sing because you have saved me.
“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.
And now, my friends, good-bye! Strive for perfection; listen to my appeals; agree with one another; live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
But the joy that you have given me is more than they will ever have with all their grain and wine.
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness; and though you have crushed me and broken me, I will be happy once again.
“Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest.“Tell us,” they asked Jesus, “are you the one John said was going to come, or should we expect someone else?”For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.”
But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
Happy are those who have the God of Jacob to help them and who depend on the Lord their God,
Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God's throne.
To give to those who mourn in Zion Joy and gladness instead of grief, A song of praise instead of sorrow. They will be like trees That the Lord himself has planted. They will all do what is right, And God will be praised for what he has done.
Praise the Lord, who carries our burdens day after day; he is the God who saves us.As smoke is blown away, so he drives them off; as wax melts in front of the fire, so do the wicked perish in God's presence. Our God is a God who saves; he is the Lord, our Lord, who rescues us from death.
For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it.
We have this hope as an anchor for our lives. It is safe and sure, and goes through the curtain of the heavenly temple into the inner sanctuary.
For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below—there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Lord is merciful and good; our God is compassionate. The Lord protects the helpless; when I was in danger, he saved me.Be confident, my heart, because the Lord has been good to me.
The thief comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.
The testimony is this: God has given us eternal life, and this life has its source in his Son.Whoever has the Son has this life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.Trust in the Lord forever; he will always protect us.
I will praise you with all my heart, O Lord my God; I will proclaim your greatness forever. How great is your constant love for me! You have saved me from the grave itself.
He taught me to sing a new song, a song of praise to our God. Many who see this will take warning and will put their trust in the Lord.
so that it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. This life that I live now, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me.
I wait patiently for God to save me; I depend on him alone.Don't put your trust in violence; don't hope to gain anything by robbery; even if your riches increase, don't depend on them.More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to himand that his love is constant. You yourself, O Lord, reward everyone according to their deeds. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated.
A day is coming when people will sing, “Give thanks to the Lord! Call for him to help you! Tell all the nations what he has done! Tell them how great he is!Sing to the Lord because of the great things he has done. Let the whole world hear the news.
The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make; for it is to this peace that God has called you together in the one body. And be thankful.
We have, then, my friends, complete freedom to go into the Most Holy Place by means of the death of Jesus. If the people worshiping God had really been purified from their sins, they would not feel guilty of sin any more, and all sacrifices would stop.He opened for us a new way, a living way, through the curtain—that is, through his own body.
I will always thank the Lord; I will never stop praising him.Even lions go hungry for lack of food, but those who obey the Lord lack nothing good.Come, my young friends, and listen to me, and I will teach you to honor the Lord.Would you like to enjoy life? Do you want long life and happiness? Then keep from speaking evil and from telling lies.Turn away from evil and do good; strive for peace with all your heart. The Lord watches over the righteous and listens to their cries;but he opposes those who do evil, so that when they die, they are soon forgotten. The righteous call to the Lord, and he listens; he rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope.Good people suffer many troubles, but the Lord saves them from them all;I will praise him for what he has done; may all who are oppressed listen and be glad!the Lord preserves them completely; not one of their bones is broken.Evil will kill the wicked; those who hate the righteous will be punished. The Lord will save his people; those who go to him for protection will be spared.Proclaim with me the Lord's greatness; let us praise his name together!
Then he took Paul and Silas up into his house and gave them some food to eat. He and his family were filled with joy, because they now believed in God.
It is true that through the sin of one man death began to rule because of that one man. But how much greater is the result of what was done by the one man, Jesus Christ! All who receive God's abundant grace and are freely put right with him will rule in life through Christ.
“I am telling you the truth: those who hear my words and believe in him who sent me have eternal life. They will not be judged, but have already passed from death to life.
God's Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God's children.Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ's suffering, we will also share his glory.
Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, and so no disaster will strike you, no violence will come near your home.God will put his angels in charge of you to protect you wherever you go.They will hold you up with their hands to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones. You will trample down lions and snakes, fierce lions and poisonous snakes.God says, “I will save those who love me and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord. When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them.I will reward them with long life; I will save them.”can say to him, “You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust.”
And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent.
For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day.And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever.
And so he is able, now and always, to save those who come to God through him, because he lives forever to plead with God for them.
We are sure that we live in union with God and that he lives in union with us, because he has given us his Spirit.
What can I offer the Lord for all his goodness to me?I will bring a wine offering to the Lord, to thank him for saving me.
And you also became God's people when you heard the true message, the Good News that brought you salvation. You believed in Christ, and God put his stamp of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit he had promised. The Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God has promised his people, and this assures us that God will give complete freedom to those who are his. Let us praise his glory!
Light shines on the righteous, and gladness on the good. All you that are righteous be glad because of what the Lord has done! Remember what the holy God has done, and give thanks to him.
“You will leave Babylon with joy; you will be led out of the city in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into singing, and the trees will shout for joy.
Sing to the Lord, and praise him! Proclaim every day the good news that he has saved us.Proclaim his glory to the nations, his mighty deeds to all peoples.
We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose.
Lord, you are my God; I will honor you and praise your name. You have done amazing things; you have faithfully carried out the plans you made long ago.
Israel, the Lord who created you says, “Do not be afraid—I will save you. I have called you by name—you are mine.“People of Israel, you are my witnesses; I chose you to be my servant, so that you would know me and believe in me and understand that I am the only God. Besides me there is no other god; there never was and never will be.“I alone am the Lord, the only one who can save you.I predicted what would happen, and then I came to your aid. No foreign god has ever done this; you are my witnesses.I am God and always will be. No one can escape from my power; no one can change what I do.”Israel's holy God, the Lord who saves you, says, “To save you, I will send an army against Babylon; I will break down the city gates, and the shouts of her people will turn into crying.I am the Lord, your holy God. I created you, Israel, and I am your king.”Long ago the Lord made a road through the sea, a path through the swirling waters. He led a mighty army to destruction, an army of chariots and horses. Down they fell, never to rise, snuffed out like the flame of a lamp! But the Lord says, “Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago.Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already—you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there. When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.Even the wild animals will honor me; jackals and ostriches will praise me when I make rivers flow in the desert to give water to my chosen people. They are the people I made for myself, and they will sing my praises!”The Lord says, “But you were tired of me, Israel; you did not worship me.You did not bring me your burnt offerings of sheep; you did not honor me with your sacrifices. I did not burden you by demanding offerings or wear you out by asking for incense. You didn't buy incense for me or satisfy me with the fat of your animals. Instead you burdened me with your sins; you wore me out with the wrongs you have committed. And yet, I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you.“Let us go to court; bring your accusation! Present your case to prove you are in the right!Your earliest ancestor sinned; your leaders sinned against me,and your rulers profaned my sanctuary. So I brought destruction on Israel; I let my own people be insulted.”For I am the Lord your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves you. I will give up Egypt to set you free; I will give up Ethiopia and Seba.
but the angel said to them, “Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David's town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord!
I consider that what we suffer at this present time cannot be compared at all with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.
Sing for joy to the Lord, all the earth; praise him with songs and shouts of joy!Sing praises to the Lord! Play music on the harps!
Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise.
Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God's children. They did not become God's children by natural means, that is, by being born as the children of a human father; God himself was their Father.
The Lord is not slow to do what he has promised, as some think. Instead, he is patient with you, because he does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants all to turn away from their sins.
Light shines in the darkness for good people, for those who are merciful, kind, and just.Happy is the person who is generous with his loans, who runs his business honestly.A good person will never fail; he will always be remembered. He is not afraid of receiving bad news; his faith is strong, and he trusts in the Lord.
He saved us and called us to be his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of his own purpose and grace. He gave us this grace by means of Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.
Come, let us praise the Lord! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us!For forty years I was disgusted with those people. I said, ‘How disloyal they are! They refuse to obey my commands.’I was angry and made a solemn promise: ‘You will never enter the land where I would have given you rest.’”Let us come before him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise.
But if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing.
We put our hope in the Lord; he is our protector and our help.We are glad because of him; we trust in his holy name.May your constant love be with us, Lord, as we put our hope in you.
They are for you, who through faith are kept safe by God's power for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time.
Sing to God, sing praises to his name; prepare a way for him who rides on the clouds. His name is the Lord—be glad in his presence!God, who lives in his sacred Temple, cares for orphans and protects widows. He gives the lonely a home to live in and leads prisoners out into happy freedom, but rebels will have to live in a desolate land.
This hope does not disappoint us, for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us.
See how much the Father has loved us! His love is so great that we are called God's children—and so, in fact, we are. This is why the world does not know us: it has not known God.Here is the clear difference between God's children and the Devil's children: those who do not do what is right or do not love others are not God's children. The message you heard from the very beginning is this: we must love one another. We must not be like Cain; he belonged to the Evil One and murdered his own brother Abel. Why did Cain murder him? Because the things he himself did were wrong, and the things his brother did were right. So do not be surprised, my friends, if the people of the world hate you.We know that we have left death and come over into life; we know it because we love others. Those who do not love are still under the power of death. Those who hate others are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life in them. This is how we know what love is: Christ gave his life for us. We too, then, ought to give our lives for others! If we are rich and see others in need, yet close our hearts against them, how can we claim that we love God?My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action. This, then, is how we will know that we belong to the truth; this is how we will be confident in God's presence. My dear friends, we are now God's children, but it is not yet clear what we shall become. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he really is.
O Lord, I will always sing of your constant love; I will proclaim your faithfulness forever.
Salvation is to be found through him alone; in all the world there is no one else whom God has given who can save us.”
But God has shown us how much he loves us—it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us!
From such terrible dangers of death he saved us, and will save us; and we have placed our hope in him that he will save us again,
So then, dear friends, as you always obeyed me when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey me now while I am away from you. Keep on working with fear and trembling to complete your salvation, because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose.
Everything written in the Scriptures was written to teach us, in order that we might have hope through the patience and encouragement which the Scriptures give us.
A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our ruler. He will be called, “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty God,” “Eternal Father,” “Prince of Peace.”His royal power will continue to grow; his kingdom will always be at peace. He will rule as King David's successor, basing his power on right and justice, from now until the end of time. The Lord Almighty is determined to do all this.
