I want to tell you about a joy that can chase away every sadness and fill your heart to overflowing. It's not a fleeting feeling based on how your day is going, but something you build day by day in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
It's your relationship with the Holy Spirit that will lead you to truly know God. And once you know Him, you'll worship Him in a way that pours out of you like a river of praise, just thinking about how amazing your Savior is. You'll understand His goodness in your life, and laughter will just bubble up.
That's when you'll realize that the happiness this world offers is based on things that fade away, but the joy Jesus puts in your soul lasts forever. God wants you to find refuge in Him, and even in the midst of tears, to find a song of worship rising within you.
When you come to Him, surrendering at His feet, you'll be filled and comforted. Even when you're going through tough times, trials, and struggles, the joy of the Lord will be your strength, and you'll be able to keep going, fulfilling the purpose God has for you.
By God’s grace, His joy will uphold you and give you what you need to face anything. As Psalm 28:7 (NIV) says, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him."
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not even see Him now, you believe and trust in Him and you greatly rejoice and delight with inexpressible and glorious joy, receiving as the result [the outcome, the consummation] of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Rejoice with those who rejoice [sharing others’ joy], and weep with those who weep [sharing others’ grief].
I have taken Your testimonies as a heritage forever, For they are the joy of my heart. [Deut 33:4]
I have told you these things so that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy may be made full and complete and overflowing.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, But in the day of adversity consider that God has made the one as well as the other, So that man will not find out anything that will be after him.
as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet bestowing riches on many; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.
Nevertheless do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” [Ex 32:32; Ps 69:28; Dan 12:1; Rev 3:5]
I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.
¶Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Shout [in jubilation] and sing for joy and sing praises.
O come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord; Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
¶Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Shout [in jubilation] and sing for joy and sing praises.Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, With the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn Shout with joy before the King, the Lord.
Then I will go to the altar of God, To God, my exceeding joy; With the lyre I will praise You, O God, my God!
How lovely are Your dwelling places, O Lord of hosts! For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather stand [as a doorkeeper] at the threshold of the house of my God Than to live [at ease] in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord bestows grace and favor and honor; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.O Lord of hosts, How blessed and greatly favored is the man who trusts in You [believing in You, relying on You, and committing himself to You with confident hope and expectation].My soul (my life, my inner self) longs for and greatly desires the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. [Acts 2:25-28, 31]
Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice! [Ps 37:4]
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. [2 Cor 4:17]
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.
This [day in which God has saved me] is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones [those whose moral and spiritual integrity places them in right standing with God], And praise and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
¶But let all who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice, Let them ever sing for joy; Because You cover and shelter them, Let those who love Your name be joyful and exult in You.
¶I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has covered me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom puts on a turban, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
A heart full of joy and goodness makes a cheerful face, But when a heart is full of sadness the spirit is crushed. [Prov 17:22]
¶But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust [confidently] in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.I will thank You forever, because You have done it, [You have rescued me and kept me safe]. I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.
[looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. [Ps 110:1]
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.Serve the Lord with gladness and delight; Come before His presence with joyful singing.
for the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking [what one likes], but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
For You make him most blessed [and a blessing] forever; You make him joyful with the joy of Your presence. [Gen 12:2]
A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, But a broken spirit dries up the bones. [Prov 12:25; 15:13, 15]
But let the righteous be glad; let them be in good spirits before God, Yes, let them rejoice with delight.
Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, And praise Him in the congregation of His godly ones (believers).
Be glad and exceedingly joyful, for your reward in heaven is great [absolutely inexhaustible]; for in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. [2 Chr 36:16]
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my innermost self] rejoices; My body too will dwell [confidently] in safety,
“For you will go out [from exile] with joy And be led forth [by the Lord Himself] with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
For You, O Lord, have made me glad by Your works; At the works of Your hands I joyfully sing.
Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; My cup overflows.
May my meditation be sweet and pleasing to Him; As for me, I will rejoice and be glad in the Lord.
Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].
Blessed and happy are the people who know the joyful sound [of the trumpet’s blast]! They walk, O Lord, in the light and favor of Your countenance!
Splendor and majesty are [found] in His presence; Strength and joy are [found] in His place (sanctuary).
The eyes of all look to You [in hopeful expectation], And You give them their food in due time. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials.for the [resentful, deep-seated] anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God [that standard of behavior which He requires from us].So get rid of all uncleanness and all that remains of wickedness, and with a humble spirit receive the word [of God] which is implanted [actually rooted in your heart], which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth].For if anyone only listens to the word without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror;for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets what he looked like. But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience]. If anyone thinks himself to be religious [scrupulously observant of the rituals of his faith], and does not control his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless (futile, barren).Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world.Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace].
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little, I will put you in charge of many things; share in the joy of your master.’
Therefore the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness (moral character, spiritual integrity), According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.
¶Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you restless and disturbed within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my [sad] countenance and my God.
Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart, In the company of the upright and in the congregation.
The spirit of a man sustains him in sickness, But as for a broken spirit, who can bear it?
¶The Lord is the portion of my inheritance, my cup [He is all I need]; You support my lot.
¶Restore our captivity, O Lord, As the stream-beds in the South (the Negev) [are restored by torrents of rain].
Through Him we also have access by faith into this [remarkable state of] grace in which we [firmly and safely and securely] stand. Let us rejoice in our hope and the confident assurance of [experiencing and enjoying] the glory of [our great] God [the manifestation of His excellence and power].
Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous [who actively seek right standing with Him]; Shout for joy, all you upright in heart.
O God, my heart is steadfast [with confident faith]; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness (graciousness, mercy, compassion) endures forever.
To grant to those who mourn in Zion the following: To give them a turban instead of dust [on their heads, a sign of mourning], The oil of joy instead of mourning, The garment [expressive] of praise instead of a disheartened spirit. So they will be called the trees of righteousness [strong and magnificent, distinguished for integrity, justice, and right standing with God], The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to You, And my soul, which You have redeemed.
¶Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores His captive people, Then Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad. [Rom 11:25-27]
For in Him our heart rejoices, Because we trust [lean on, rely on, and are confident] in His holy name.
Finally, my fellow believers, continue to rejoice and delight in the Lord. To write the same things again is no trouble for me, and it is a safeguard for you.
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness endures forever.¶All nations encompassed me; In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off. They encompassed me, yes, they surrounded me [on every side]; In the name of the Lord I will cut them off. They swarmed around me like bees; They flare up and are extinguished like a fire of thorns; In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off. [Deut 1:44]You [my enemy] pushed me violently so that I was falling, But the Lord helped me.The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.¶The sound of joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous: The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.I will not die, but live, And declare the works and recount the illustrious acts of the Lord. The Lord has disciplined me severely, But He has not given me over to death. [2 Cor 6:9]¶Open to me the [temple] gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the Lord.Oh let Israel say, “His lovingkindness endures forever.”
And the ransomed of the Lord will return And come to Zion with shouts of jubilation, And everlasting joy will be upon their heads; They will find joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole and blameless heart they had offered freely to the Lord. King David also rejoiced greatly.
¶The sound of joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous: The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.
Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let those who love Your salvation say continually, “The Lord be magnified!”
It will be said in that day, “Indeed, this is our God for whom we have waited that He would save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; Let us shout for joy and rejoice in His salvation.”
As for the saints (godly people) who are in the land, They are the majestic and the noble and the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.
Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to honor and glory.
When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion (Jerusalem), We were like those who dream [it seemed so unreal]. [Ps 53:6; Acts 12:9]Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
Through Him, therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name. [Lev 7:12; Is 57:19; Hos 14:2]
Then David told the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives as the singers, with instruments of music—harps, lyres, and cymbals—to play loudly and to raise sounds of joy [with their voices].
Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child [resting] with his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within me [composed and freed from discontent].
The hope of the righteous [those of honorable character and integrity] is joy, But the expectation of the wicked [those who oppose God and ignore His wisdom] comes to nothing.
The precepts of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a [very precious] treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid again; then in his joy he goes and sells all he has and buys that field [securing the treasure for himself].
Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babes You have established strength Because of Your adversaries, That You might silence the enemy and make the revengeful cease. [Matt 21:15, 16]
but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory [as conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.
My soul (my life, my inner self) longs for and greatly desires the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
“Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, For the Lord God is my strength and song; Yes, He has become my salvation.”
¶Out of my distress I called on the Lord; The Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can [mere] man do to me? [Heb 13:6]
Since I am convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,
¶How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who [reverently] fear You, Which You have prepared for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of man!
Then Ezra said to them, “Go [your way], eat the rich festival food, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be worried, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.”
¶But let all who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice, Let them ever sing for joy; Because You cover and shelter them, Let those who love Your name be joyful and exult in You.For You, O Lord, bless the righteous man [the one who is in right standing with You]; You surround him with favor as with a shield.
I will rejoice and be glad in Your steadfast love, Because You have seen my affliction; You have taken note of my life’s distresses,
All the days of the afflicted are bad, But a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of the circumstances].
“Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, For the Lord God is my strength and song; Yes, He has become my salvation.”Therefore with joy you will draw water From the springs of salvation.
So the redeemed of the Lord will return And come with joyful shouting to Zion; Everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away. [Rev 7:17; 21:1, 4]
Until now you have not asked [the Father] for anything in My name; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be full and complete.
‘You have made known to me the ways of life; You will fill me [infusing my soul] with joy with Your presence.’ [Ps 16:8-11]
constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength],
