Don’t merely listen to it, or you will fool yourselves.If someone listens to God’s word but doesn’t do what it says, he is like a person who looks at his face in a mirror,studies his features, goes away, and immediately forgets what he looks like.However, the person who continues to study God’s perfect laws that make people free and who remains committed to them will be blessed. People like that don’t merely listen and forget; they actually do what God’s laws say.If a person thinks that he is religious but can’t control his tongue, he is fooling himself. That person’s religion is worthless.Pure, unstained religion, according to God our Father, is to take care of orphans and widows when they suffer and to remain uncorrupted by this world.You know that such testing of your faith produces endurance.
But that’s not all. We also brag when we are suffering. We know that suffering creates endurance,endurance creates character, and character creates confidence.We’re not ashamed to have this confidence, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
You are extremely happy about these things, even though you have to suffer different kinds of trouble for a little while now.The purpose of these troubles is to test your faith as fire tests how genuine gold is. Your faith is more precious than gold, and by passing the test, it gives praise, glory, and honor to God. This will happen when Jesus Christ appears again.
His anger lasts only a moment. His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning.
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God—those whom he has called according to his plan.
Always be joyful.Never stop praying.Whatever happens, give thanks, because it is God’s will in Christ Jesus that you do this.
Those who cry while they plant will joyfully sing while they harvest.The person who goes out weeping, carrying his bag of seed, will come home singing, carrying his bundles of grain.

Instead, let it heal.Try to live peacefully with everyone, and try to live holy lives, because if you don’t, you will not see the Lord.Make sure that everyone has kindness from God so that bitterness doesn’t take root and grow up to cause trouble that corrupts many of you.Make sure that no one commits sexual sin or is as concerned about earthly things as Esau was. He sold his rights as the firstborn son for a single meal.You know that afterwards, when he wanted to receive the blessing that the firstborn son was to receive, he was rejected. Even though he begged and cried for the blessing, he couldn’t do anything to change what had happened.You have not come to something that you can feel, to a blazing fire, to darkness, to gloom, to a storm,to a trumpet’s blast, and to a voice. When your ancestors heard that voice, they begged not to hear it say another word.We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Now he holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for doing what God approves of. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, lie, and say all kinds of evil things about you because of me.Rejoice and be glad because you have a great reward in heaven! The prophets who lived before you were persecuted in these ways.
We ask him to strengthen you by his glorious might with all the power you need to patiently endure everything with joy.

Remember the past, when you first learned the truth. You endured a lot of hardship and pain.At times you were publicly insulted and mistreated. At times you associated with people who were treated this way.You suffered with prisoners. You were cheerful even though your possessions were stolen, since you know that you have a better and more permanent possession.
The Lord is near to everyone who prays to him, to every faithful person who prays to him.
Don’t be afraid, because I am with you. Don’t be intimidated; I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will support you with my victorious right hand.
People think we are sad although we’re always glad, that we’re beggars although we make many people spiritually rich, that we have nothing although we possess everything.

Now that we have God’s approval by faith, we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done.If the death of his Son restored our relationship with God while we were still his enemies, we are even more certain that, because of this restored relationship, the life of his Son will save us.In addition, our Lord Jesus Christ lets us continue to brag about God. After all, it is through Christ that we now have this restored relationship with God.Sin came into the world through one person, and death came through sin. But no record of sin can be kept when there are no laws.Yet, death ruled from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin in the same way Adam did when he disobeyed. Adam is an image of the one who would come.There is no comparison between ⌞God’s⌟ gift and ⌞Adam’s⌟ failure. If humanity died as the result of one person’s failure, it is certainly true that God’s kindness and the gift given through the kindness of one person, Jesus Christ, have been showered on humanity. There is also no comparison between ⌞God’s⌟ gift and the one who sinned. The verdict which followed one person’s failure condemned everyone. But, even after many failures, the gift brought God’s approval.It is certain that death ruled because of one person’s failure. It’s even more certain that those who receive God’s overflowing kindness and the gift of his approval will rule in life because of one person, Jesus Christ.Therefore, everyone was condemned through one failure, and everyone received God’s life-giving approval through one verdict.Clearly, through one person’s disobedience humanity became sinful, and through one person’s obedience humanity will receive God’s approval.Through Christ we can approach God and stand in his favor. So we brag because of our confidence that we will receive glory from God.
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the Father who is compassionate and the God who gives comfort.He comforts us whenever we suffer. That is why whenever other people suffer, we are able to comfort them by using the same comfort we have received from God.
I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this.
With perfect peace you will protect those whose minds cannot be changed, because they trust you.
God, who shows you his kindness and who has called you through Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, strengthen you, make you strong, and support you as you suffer for a little while.
