My brothers and sisters, think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy. After all, you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
You now rejoice in this hope, even if it’s necessary for you to be distressed for a short time by various trials. This is necessary so that your faith may be found genuine. (Your faith is more valuable than gold, which will be destroyed even though it is itself tested by fire.) Your genuine faith will result in praise, glory, and honor for you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
His anger lasts for only a second, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay all night, but by morning, joy!
He said to me, “My grace is enough for you, because power is made perfect in weakness.” So I’ll gladly spend my time bragging about my weaknesses so that Christ’s power can rest on me.Therefore, I’m all right with weaknesses, insults, disasters, harassments, and stressful situations for the sake of Christ, because when I’m weak, then I’m strong.
We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Rejoice always.Pray continually.Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Let those who plant with tears reap the harvest with joyful shouts.Let those who go out, crying and carrying their seed, come home with joyful shouts, carrying bales of grain!
to provide for Zion’s mourners, to give them a crown in place of ashes, oil of joy in place of mourning, a mantle of praise in place of discouragement. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, planted by the LORD to glorify himself.
So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up,and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.
“Happy are people whose lives are harassed because they are righteous, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.“Happy are you when people insult you and harass you and speak all kinds of bad and false things about you, all because of me.Be full of joy and be glad, because you have a great reward in heaven. In the same way, people harassed the prophets who came before you.
by being strengthened through his glorious might so that you endure everything and have patience;
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you won’t be scorched and flame won’t burn you.
Those who know your name trust you because you have not abandoned any who seek you, LORD.The LORD is a safe place for the oppressed— a safe place in difficult times.
Most important, live together in a manner worthy of Christ’s gospel. Do this, whether I come and see you or I’m absent and hear about you. Do this so that you stand firm, united in one spirit and mind as you struggle together to remain faithful to the gospel. That way, you won’t be afraid of anything your enemies do. Your faithfulness and courage are a sign of their coming destruction and your salvation, which is from God.
Why, I ask myself, are you so depressed? Why are you so upset inside? Hope in God! Because I will again give him thanks, my saving presence and my God.
So we aren’t depressed. But even if our bodies are breaking down on the outside, the person that we are on the inside is being renewed every day.Our temporary minor problems are producing an eternal stockpile of glory for us that is beyond all comparison. We don’t focus on the things that can be seen but on the things that can’t be seen. The things that can be seen don’t last, but the things that can’t be seen are eternal.
“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.”
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this.
Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you’re in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer.
whenever I’m afraid, I put my trust in you—in God, whose word I praise. I trust in God; I won’t be afraid. What can mere flesh do to me?
Please let your faithful love comfort me, according to what you’ve said to your servant.
Dear friends, don’t be surprised about the fiery trials that have come among you to test you. These are not strange happenings.Instead, rejoice as you share Christ’s suffering. You share his suffering now so that you may also have overwhelming joy when his glory is revealed.
I put all my hope in the LORD. He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help.He lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set my feet on solid rock. He steadied my legs.He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise for our God. Many people will learn of this and be amazed; they will trust the LORD.
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.
I will thank you, LORD, with all my heart; I will talk about all your wonderful acts.I will celebrate and rejoice in you; I will sing praises to your name, Most High.
Your way of life should be free from the love of money, and you should be content with what you have. After all, he has said, “I will never leave you or abandon you”.This is why we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, ” “and I won’t be afraid. ” “What can people do to me?”
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
The expectations of the righteous result in joy, but the hopes of the wicked will perish.
Why, I ask myself, are you so depressed? Why are you so upset inside? Hope in God! Because I will again give him thanks, my saving presence and my God.
Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up.
I’m not saying this because I need anything, for I have learned how to be content in any circumstance.I know the experience of being in need and of having more than enough; I have learned the secret to being content in any and every circumstance, whether full or hungry or whether having plenty or being poor.
But remember the earlier days, after you saw the light. You stood your ground while you were suffering from an enormous amount of pressure.Sometimes you were exposed to insults and abuse in public. Other times you became partners with those who were treated that way.You even showed sympathy toward people in prison and accepted the confiscation of your possessions with joy, since you knew that you had better and lasting possessions.
The LORD is close to everyone who calls out to him, to all who call out to him sincerely.
Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.
as going through pain but always happy, as poor but making many rich, and as having nothing but owning everything.
The righteousness that I have comes from knowing Christ, the power of his resurrection, and the participation in his sufferings. It includes being conformed to his death
Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory.
May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! He is the compassionate Father and God of all comfort. He’s the one who comforts us in all our trouble so that we can comfort other people who are in every kind of trouble. We offer the same comfort that we ourselves received from God.
I give thanks to you that I was marvelously set apart. Your works are wonderful—I know that very well.
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, the one who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, empower, strengthen, and establish you.
You teach me the way of life. In your presence is total celebration. Beautiful things are always in your right hand.
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us—because it is written, “Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed”.He redeemed us so that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, and that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
I believe that the present suffering is nothing compared to the coming glory that is going to be revealed to us.
“This is God, our God, forever and always! He is the one who will lead us even to the very end.”
The LORD will guide you continually and provide for you, even in parched places. He will rescue your bones. You will be like a watered garden, like a spring of water that won’t run dry.
You, LORD my God! You’ve done so many things— your wonderful deeds and your plans for us— no one can compare with you! If I were to proclaim and talk about all of them, they would be too numerous to count!
But we have this treasure in clay pots so that the awesome power belongs to God and doesn’t come from us.We are experiencing all kinds of trouble, but we aren’t crushed. We are confused, but we aren’t depressed. We are harassed, but we aren’t abandoned. We are knocked down, but we aren’t knocked out.
Whenever you cry out to me, I’ll answer. I’ll be with you in troubling times. I’ll save you and glorify you.
Finally, let’s draw near to the throne of favor with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace when we need help.
I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.
But now, says the LORD— the one who created you, Jacob, the one who formed you, Israel: Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.
God’s kingdom isn’t about eating food and drinking but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
because everyone who is born from God defeats the world. And this is the victory that has defeated the world: our faith.
Praise the LORD! Those who honor the LORD, who adore God’s commandments, are truly happy!Their descendants will be strong throughout the land. The offspring of those who do right will be blessed;
I surely rejoice in the LORD; my heart is joyful because of my God, because he has clothed me with clothes of victory, wrapped me in a robe of righteousness like a bridegroom in a priestly crown, and like a bride adorned in jewelry.
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me. Your rod and your staff— they protect me.
Although you’ve never seen him, you love him. Even though you don’t see him now, you trust him and so rejoice with a glorious joy that is too much for words.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
So let’s continually offer up a sacrifice of praise through him, which is the fruit from our lips that confess his name.
So what are we going to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?He didn’t spare his own Son but gave him up for us all. Won’t he also freely give us all things with him?
Whenever I am in deep trouble, you make me live again; you send your power against my enemies’ wrath; you save me with your strong hand.
God is indeed my salvation; I will trust and won’t be afraid. Yah, the LORD, is my strength and my shield; he has become my salvation.”
God is faithful, and you were called by him to partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
“Cast your burden on the LORD— he will support you! God will never let the righteous be shaken!”
God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.
You changed my mourning into dancing. You took off my funeral clothes and dressed me up in joyso that my whole being might sing praises to you and never stop. LORD, my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
Don’t try to get revenge for yourselves, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. It is written, “Revenge belongs to me; I will pay it back, says the Lord”.
Establish justice for me, LORD, because I have walked with integrity. I’ve trusted the LORD without wavering.Examine me, LORD; put me to the test! Purify my mind and my heart.
You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love.
“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.
Why, I ask myself, are you so depressed? Why are you so upset inside? Hope in God! Because I will again give him thanks, my saving presence and my God.
No temptation has seized you that isn’t common for people. But God is faithful. He won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it.
and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.
My God will meet your every need out of his riches in the glory that is found in Christ Jesus.
You are from God, little children, and you have defeated these people because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
All of God’s promises have their yes in him. That is why we say Amen through him to the glory of God.
But look here: the LORD’s eyes watch all who honor him, all who wait for his faithful love,
if you open your heart to the hungry, and provide abundantly for those who are afflicted, your light will shine in the darkness, and your gloom will be like the noon. The LORD will guide you continually and provide for you, even in parched places. He will rescue your bones. You will be like a watered garden, like a spring of water that won’t run dry.
Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
In just a little while the wicked won’t exist! If you go looking around their place, they won’t be there. But the weak will inherit the land; they will enjoy a surplus of peace.Because evildoers will be eliminated, but those who hope in the LORD— they will possess the land.
But we aren’t the sort of people who timidly draw back and end up being destroyed. We’re the sort of people who have faith so that our whole beings are preserved.
But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance,
giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted.Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble;but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.
The LORD is for me—I won’t be afraid. What can anyone do to me?The LORD is for me—as my helper. I look in victory on those who hate me.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the self with its passions and its desires.
Most important, live together in a manner worthy of Christ’s gospel. Do this, whether I come and see you or I’m absent and hear about you. Do this so that you stand firm, united in one spirit and mind as you struggle together to remain faithful to the gospel.
even there your hand would guide me; even there your strong hand would hold me tight! If I could fly on the wings of dawn, stopping to rest only on the far side of the ocean—
So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!
I put all my hope in the LORD. He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help.He lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set my feet on solid rock. He steadied my legs.
Brothers and sisters, I myself don’t think I’ve reached it, but I do this one thing: I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of me.The goal I pursue is the prize of God’s upward call in Christ Jesus.
The people who have it like this are truly happy! The people whose God is the LORD are truly happy!
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence.Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.
