Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Think about what it really means to delight in something. It's about experiencing deep happiness and satisfaction in what brings you true joy. And the Bible teaches us that true joy is only found in God.
When you delight in God, it puts everything else into perspective. Your worries and struggles become smaller because you recognize that He's ultimately in control. It strengthens your relationship with Him, draws you closer to His presence, and helps you trust His promises completely.
Delighting in God also cultivates an attitude of gratitude. You start to see all the good things in your life as blessings from His love and care. It doesn't mean ignoring your responsibilities or pretending challenges don't exist. Instead, it's about finding the strength and wisdom in Him to face them with confidence and a positive outlook.
Truly, delighting in God leads to a full and meaningful life. It's where you'll find genuine satisfaction and discover the purpose He has for you. So, in the midst of all the demands and distractions of this world, remember that only in God will you find the delight your heart truly longs for.
When I received your words, I ate them. They filled me with joy. My heart took delight in them. Lord God who rules over all, I belong to you.
They say, “He trusts in the Lord. Let the Lord help him. If the Lord is pleased with him, let him save him.”
You always show me the path of life. You will fill me with joy when I am with you. You will make me happy forever at your right hand.
The people of Jerusalem will say, “We take great delight in the Lord. We are joyful because we belong to our God. He has dressed us with salvation as if it were our clothes. He has put robes of godliness on us. We are like a groom who is dressed up for his wedding. We are like a bride who decorates herself with her jewels.
Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who have respect for the Lord. They find great delight when they obey God’s commands.
Then Hannah prayed. She said, “The Lord has filled my heart with joy. He has made me strong. I can laugh at my enemies. I’m so glad he saved me.
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy some good food and sweet drinks. Send some of it to people who don’t have any. This day is holy to our Lord. So don’t be sad. The joy of the Lord makes you strong.”
I’m asking the Lord for only one thing. Here is what I want. I want to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. I want to look at the beauty of the Lord. I want to worship him in his temple.
Your people captured cities that had high walls around them. They also took over the rich land in Canaan. They took houses filled with all kinds of good things. They took over wells that had already been dug. They took many vineyards, olive groves and fruit trees. They ate until they were very full and satisfied. They were filled with joy because you were so good to them.
Then you will find your joy in me. I will give you control over the most important places in the land. And you will enjoy all the good things in the land I gave your father Jacob.” The Lord has spoken.
I will be glad and full of joy because of you. Most High God, I will sing the praises of your name.
He doesn’t take pleasure in the strength of horses. He doesn’t take delight in the strong legs of warriors.
Why spend money on what is not food? Why work for what does not satisfy you? Listen carefully to me. Then you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the richest food there is.
The Lord gave Jeremiah a message about these people. The Lord said, “They really love to wander away from me. Their feet go down the wrong path. I do not accept these people. I will remember the evil things they have done. I will punish them for their sins.”
I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day. I was always happy to be with him.His whole world filled me with joy. I took delight in all human beings.
Lord, who is a God like you? You forgive sin. You forgive your people when they do what is wrong. You don’t stay angry forever. Instead, you take delight in showing your faithful love to them.
May the God who gives hope fill you with great joy. May you have perfect peace as you trust in him. May the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.
The rules of the Lord are right. They give joy to our hearts. The commands of the Lord shine brightly. They give light to our minds.
Even though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not see him now, you believe in him. You are filled with a glorious joy that can’t be put into words.
I have told you this so that you will have the same joy that I have. I also want your joy to be complete.
You are my place of safety. You are like a shield that keeps me safe. I have put my hope in your word.
The Lord your God is with you. He is the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you. In his love he will no longer punish you. Instead, he will sing for joy because of you.”
Be glad because of what the Lord has done for you. Be joyful, you who do what is right! Sing, all you whose hearts are honest!
I will be as satisfied as if I had eaten the best food there is. I will sing praise to you with my mouth.As I lie on my bed I remember you. I think of you all night long.
God, you are the one who saves us. We will trust in you. Then we won’t be afraid. Lord, you are the one who gives us strength. You are the one who keeps us safe. Lord, you have saved us.”People of Israel, he will save you. That will bring you joy like water brought up from wells.
But I will still be glad because of what the Lord has done. God my Savior fills me with joy.
And that is not all. We are full of joy in God because of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of him, God has brought us back to himself.
Further, my brothers and sisters, be joyful because you belong to the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write about some important matters to you again. If you know about them, you will have a safe path to follow.
I will be glad and full of joy because you love me. You saw that I was hurting. You took note of my great pain.
You who are godly, be glad because of what the Lord has done. Praise him, because his name is holy.
Glory and majesty are all around him. Strength and joy are in the place where he lives.
You have given him blessings that will never end. You have made him glad and joyful because you are with him.
Lord, we are living the way your laws command us to live. We are waiting for you to act. We want your honor and fame to be known.
Always be joyful.Never stop praying.Give thanks no matter what happens. God wants you to thank him because you believe in Christ Jesus.
Then I will be full of joy because of what the Lord has done. I will be glad because he has saved me.
A single day in your courtyards is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather guard the door of the house of my God than live in the tents of sinful people.
But do not be glad when the evil spirits obey you. Instead, be glad that your names are written in heaven.”
Blessed are those who have learned to shout praise to you. Lord, they live in the light of your kindness.All day long they are full of joy because of who you are. They celebrate the fact that you do what is right.
Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds. He will do this because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood.
Then I will enjoy the good things you give your chosen ones. I will be joyful together with your people. I will join them when they praise you.
But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful
The Lord gives me strength. He is like a shield that keeps me safe. My heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart jumps for joy. With my song I praise him.
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask, and you will receive what you ask for. Then your joy will be complete.
He gives those who are thirsty all the water they want. He gives those who are hungry all the good food they can eat.
Blessed are those who depend on the God of Jacob for help. Blessed are those who put their hope in the Lord their God.
Blessed is the nation about whom all these things are true. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
Those the Lord has saved will return to their land. They will sing as they enter the city of Zion. Joy that lasts forever will be like beautiful crowns on their heads. They will be filled with gladness and joy. Sorrow and sighing will be gone.
So be glad and full of joy forever because of what I will create. I will cause others to take delight in Jerusalem. They will be filled with joy when they see its people.And I will be full of joy because of Jerusalem. I will take delight in my people. Weeping and crying will not be heard there anymore.
You turned my loud crying into dancing. You removed my clothes of sadness and dressed me with joy.
A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way.
You always show me the path that leads to life. You will fill me with joy when I am with you.’ (Psalm 16:8–11)
You can be sure that I will comfort Zion’s people. I will look with loving concern on all their destroyed buildings. I will make their deserts like Eden. I will make their dry and empty land like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be there. People will sing and give thanks to me.
They eat well because there is more than enough in your house. You let them drink from your river that flows with good things.
I’m sure of this. So I know I will remain with you. And I will continue with all of you to help you grow in your faith. I will also continue to help you be joyful in what you have been taught.
If anyone pays attention to what they’re taught, they will succeed. Blessed is the person who trusts in the Lord.
Then I will go to the altar of God. I will go to God. He is my joy and my delight. God, you are my God. I will praise you by playing the lyre.
But those who are free of pride will be given the land. They will enjoy peace and success.
Lord, you will make our nation larger. You will increase their joy. They will show you how glad they are. They will be as glad as people are at harvest time. They will be as glad as warriors are when they share the things they’ve taken after a battle.
Satisfy us with your faithful love every morning. Then we can sing for joy and be glad all our days.
God’s kingdom is not about eating or drinking. It is about doing what is right and having peace and joy. All this comes through the Holy Spirit.
Blessed are those you choose and bring near to worship you. You bring us into the courtyards of your holy temple. There in your house we are filled with all kinds of good things.
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord. Let us give a loud shout to the Rock who saves us.For 40 years I was angry with them. I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray. They do not know how I want them to live.’So when I was angry, I made a promise. I said, ‘They will never enjoy the rest I planned for them.’ ”Let us come to him and give him thanks. Let us praise him with music and song.
But my life might even be poured out like a drink offering on your sacrifices. I’m talking about the way you serve because you believe. Even so, I am glad. I am joyful with all of you.So you too should be glad and joyful with me.
Honor him, because his name is holy. Let the hearts of those who trust in the Lord be glad.
I can’t wait to be in the courtyards of the Lord’s temple. I really want to be there. My whole being cries out for the living God.
My spirit, why are you so sad? Why are you so upset deep down inside me? Put your hope in God. Once again I will have reason to praise him. He is my Savior and my God.
