I feel it's our responsibility as followers of Christ to lovingly correct those who stray from His path. It's a part of how we show the love God has poured into our hearts.
Each of us should encourage and gently nudge one another back towards His word. Thinking about it, when we're honest with each other, offering correction with kindness, it's not disrespectful, it's truly caring. It's how we help each other grow.
I have confidence in you. I know you're full of goodness and knowledge, perfectly capable of guiding one another. As Romans 15:14 reminds us, "I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another."
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished to all good works.
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother shall trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he shall repent forgive him.
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye who are spiritual, restore such one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he shall neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican.
And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.
But now I have written to you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother is a lewd person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner: with such person no not to eat.
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Brethren, if any one of you should err from the truth, and one should convert him;Let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will hide a multitude of sins.
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do ye not judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them who are exercised by it.
Reprove not a scorner, lest he shall hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou doest that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.
And I myself also am persuaded concerning you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thy own eye?Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thy eye; and behold, a beam is in thy own eye?Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thy own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity will cover a multitude of sins.
And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying to him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him to rise.
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
To deliver such one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted by many.So that on the other hand, ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such one should be swallowed up with excessive sorrow.Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love towards him.
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the weak, be patient towards all men.
He that rebuketh a man afterward shall find more favor than he that flattereth with the tongue.
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:
The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye are otherwise minded, God will reveal even this to you.
Therefore if thou shalt bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother hath aught against thee;Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
This testimony is true: wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh penitence to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
But when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things with which one may edify another.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
If any man shall see his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask, and he will give him life for them that sin not to death. There is a sin to death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
Verily I say to you, Whatever ye shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven: and whatever ye shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.
When I kept silence, my bones became old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drouth of summer. Selah.
When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called;Which some professing, have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
