I feel it's our responsibility as followers of Christ to lovingly correct those who stray from His path. It's a part of how we show the love God has poured into our hearts.
Each of us should encourage and gently nudge one another back towards His word. Thinking about it, when we're honest with each other, offering correction with kindness, it's not disrespectful, it's truly caring. It's how we help each other grow.
I have confidence in you. I know you're full of goodness and knowledge, perfectly capable of guiding one another. As Romans 15:14 reminds us, "I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another."
Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.
Brothers and sisters, if a person is discovered in some sin, you who are spiritual restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness. Pay close attention to yourselves, so that you are not tempted too.
A rod and reproof impart wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained brings shame to his mother.
“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother.But if he does not listen, take one or two others with you, so that at the testimony of two or three witnesses every matter may be established.If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, treat him like a Gentile or a tax collector.
But if anyone does not obey our message through this letter, take note of him and do not associate closely with him, so that he may be ashamed.Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother.
“Therefore, blessed is the man whom God corrects, so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don’t let anyone look down on you.
Preach the message, be ready whether it is convenient or not, reprove, rebuke, exhort with complete patience and instruction.
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who calls himself a Christian who is sexually immoral, or greedy, or an idolater, or verbally abusive, or a drunkard, or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.
He must hold firmly to the faithful message as it has been taught, so that he will be able to give exhortation in such healthy teaching and correct those who speak against it.
My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back,Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth-eaten.he should know that the one who turns a sinner back from his wandering path will save that person’s soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Are you not to judge those inside?But God will judge those outside. Remove the evil person from among you.
Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.
Do not address an older man harshly but appeal to him as a father. Speak to younger men as brothers,
Do not reprove a mocker or he will hate you; reprove a wise person and he will love you.
for it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be in fear, for it does not bear the sword in vain. It is God’s servant to administer retribution on the wrongdoer.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.
You severely discipline people for their sins; like a moth you slowly devour their strength. Surely all people are a mere vapor. (Selah)
But I myself am fully convinced about you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another.
Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to see the beam of wood in your own?Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’ while there is a beam in your own?You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Your shout made the waters retreat; at the sound of your thunderous voice they hurried off –
Above all keep your love for one another fervent, because love covers a multitude of sins.
Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that moment.
Now when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
The person who hears the reproof that leads to life is at home among the wise.The one who refuses correction despises himself, but whoever hears reproof acquires understanding.
For the commandments are like a lamp, instruction is like a light, and rebukes of discipline are like the road leading to life,
turn this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
This punishment on such an individual by the majority is enough for him,so that now instead you should rather forgive and comfort him. This will keep him from being overwhelmed by excessive grief to the point of despair.Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who create dissensions and obstacles contrary to the teaching that you learned. Avoid them!
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.
The one who reproves another will in the end find more favor than the one who flatters with the tongue.
May the godly strike me in love and correct me! May my head not refuse choice oil! Indeed, my prayer is a witness against their evil deeds.
But practicing the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head.
The one who is wise in heart is called discerning, and kind speech increases persuasiveness.
Therefore let those of us who are “perfect” embrace this point of view. If you think otherwise, God will reveal to you the error of your ways.
So then, if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother and then come and present your gift.
Such testimony is true. For this reason rebuke them sharply that they may be healthy in the faith
We proclaim him by instructing and teaching all people with all wisdom so that we may present every person mature in Christ.
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical.
But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he had clearly done wrong.
But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called “Today,” that none of you may become hardened by sin’s deception.
If anyone sees his fellow Christian committing a sin not resulting in death, he should ask, and God will grant life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death. There is a sin resulting in death. I do not say that he should ask about that.
“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.
When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long.For day and night you tormented me; you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer. (Selah)
When a scorner is punished, the naive becomes wise; when a wise person is instructed, he gains knowledge.
Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.
O Timothy, protect what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the profane chatter and absurdities of so-called “knowledge.”By professing it, some have strayed from the faith. Grace be with you all.
