106 Bible verses that are difficult to explain

106 Bible verses that are difficult to explain

I've found that the best way to explain something truly difficult is to have lived it firsthand. Walking the walk every day gives you the tools you need to share a message of salvation that can really reach people. There's just nothing like sharing a life-changing message that's rooted in your own experiences.

But here's the thing: it's so important to remember the role of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit has the full picture and the patience to guide us into a deeper understanding. We can't just rely on our own thinking or even other people's stories, because we might find ourselves at a loss when we try to share something we haven't truly encountered ourselves.

The Holy Spirit is ready and willing to teach us today. It's all about being open to that guidance.

1 Peter 3:18-19

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit,in whom He also went and preached to the spirits in prison

Genesis 6:1-4

Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them,And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence. And God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways. Then God said to Noah, “The end of all living creatures has come before Me, because through them the earth is full of violence. Now behold, I will destroy both them and the earth.Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark and coat it with pitch inside and out.And this is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. You are to make a roof for the ark, finish its walls a cubit from the top, place a door in the side of the ark, and build lower, middle, and upper decks. And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish. But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.And you are to bring two of every living creature into the ark—male and female—to keep them alive with you.the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose. Two of every kind of bird and animal and crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive. You are also to take for yourself every kind of food that is eaten and gather it as food for yourselves and for the animals.”So Noah did everything precisely as God had commanded him.So the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown.

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:when I fixed its boundaries and set in place its bars and doors, and I declared: ‘You may come this far, but no farther; here your proud waves must stop’?In your days, have you commanded the morning or assigned the dawn its place, that it might spread to the ends of the earth and shake the wicked out of it?The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its hills stand out like the folds of a garment.Light is withheld from the wicked, and their upraised arm is broken.Have you journeyed to the vents of the sea or walked in the trenches of the deep?Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?Have you surveyed the extent of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this.Where is the way to the home of light? Do you know where darkness resides,“Who is this who obscures My counsel by words without knowledge? so you can lead it back to its border? Who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb does the ice emerge? Who gives birth to the frost from heaven,Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me. when the waters become hard as stone and the surface of the deep is frozen? Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion? Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs? Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth? Can you command the clouds so that a flood of water covers you?Can you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?Who has put wisdom in the heart or given understanding to the mind?Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Or who can tilt the water jars of the heavenswhen the dust hardens into a mass and the clods of earth stick together? Can you hunt the prey for a lioness or satisfy the hunger of young lionsWhere were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.

Know and understand this: From the issuance of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the Messiah, the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of distress. Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and will have nothing. Then the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations have been decreed. And he will confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of the temple will come the abomination that causes desolation, until the decreed destruction is poured out upon him.”

And the rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side.So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’But Abraham answered, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things. But now he is comforted here, while you are in agony. And besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that even those who wish cannot cross from here to you, nor can anyone cross from there to us.’‘Then I beg you, father,’ he said, ‘send Lazarus to my father’s house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also end up in this place of torment.’But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking away my position? I am too weak to dig and too ashamed to beg.‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

John 14:2-3

In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid. You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism; Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”Astounded and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”But others mocked them and said, “They are drunk on new wine!”Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, lifted up his voice, and addressed the crowd: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen carefully to my words. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It is only the third hour of the day!No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.Even on My menservants and maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Men of Israel, listen to this message: Jesus of Nazareth was a man certified by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know.He was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches.David says about Him: ‘I saw the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will dwell in hope, because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will You let Your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence.’ Brothers, I can tell you with confidence that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that He would place one of his descendants on his throne.Foreseeing this, David spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did His body see decay.God has raised this Jesus to life, to which we are all witnesses.Exalted, then, to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For David did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right handuntil I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’ Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!”When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise belongs to you and your children and to all who are far off—to all whom the Lord our God will call to Himself.”And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Where then did the weeds come from?’‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. So the servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’‘No,’ he said, ‘if you pull the weeds now, you might uproot the wheat with them. And He told them many things in parables, saying, “A farmer went out to sow his seed.Let both grow together until the harvest. Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us.Our fathers disciplined us for a short time as they thought best, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness. No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields a harvest of righteousness and peace to those who have been trained by it. Therefore strengthen your limp hands and weak knees.Make straight paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that no root of bitterness springs up to cause trouble and defile many.See to it that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected. He could find no ground for repentance, though he sought the blessing with tears. For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom, and storm;to a trumpet blast or to a voice that made its hearers beg that no further word be spoken.Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
