John 11:25 says, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." Death is always associated with sadness. It typically causes a lot of pain. And there's nothing wrong with grieving a loss. Even Jesus wept at the death of his friend Lazarus.
God created us in such a way that death doesn't feel natural. If you've recently lost a loved one, remember John 11:251. It assures us that followers of Christ have a special place with Him in heaven.
Reading God's Word in times of sorrow can really help ease your heart. The Bible is full of moving verses that will comfort your soul.
Don't go through tough times without the Holy Spirit. Let the Spirit dry your tears. And don't blame God for anything you're going through. I assure you, none of it is His fault. Just cry in His presence until you feel encouraged. And when the sadness comes back with the memories, don't hesitate to ask God for strength. He will embrace you with love, dry your tears, and share your pain, because Jesus also weeps when He sees you suffer.
You are His precious creation, the one He died for, and everything that hurts you also hurts Him. God is your safe haven. Let His grace give you the strength to keep going.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies,
For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep.
For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. Now if I am to go on living in the body, this will mean productive work for me, yet I don’t know which I prefer:I feel torn between the two, because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far,
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians. For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be suddenly caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
“Do not let your hearts be distressed. You believe in God; believe also in me.Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative, but the Father residing in me performs his miraculous deeds.Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me, believe because of the miraculous deeds themselves.I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.“If you love me, you will obey my commandments. Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever –the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.“I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come to you.In a little while the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too. There are many dwelling places in my Father’s house. Otherwise, I would have told you, because I am going away to make ready a place for you.You will know at that time that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you.The person who has my commandments and obeys them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him.”“Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.The person who does not love me does not obey my words. And the word you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.“I have spoken these things while staying with you.But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come again and take you to be with me, so that where I am you may be too.I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me,but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up, let us go from here.”And you know the way where I am going.”
As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and that as the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God,
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed –in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will happen, “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Look! The residence of God is among human beings. He will live among them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them.He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.”
“I tell you the solemn truth, the one who hears my message and believes the one who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned, but has crossed over from death to life.
“Do not be amazed at this, because a time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voiceand will come out – the ones who have done what is good to the resurrection resulting in life, and the ones who have done what is evil to the resurrection resulting in condemnation.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He takes me to lush pastures, he leads me to refreshing water. He restores my strength. He leads me down the right paths for the sake of his reputation.Even when I must walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff reassure me.
For none of us lives for himself and none dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord; if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.For this reason Christ died and returned to life, so that he may be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
The Lord says, “At that time young women will dance and be glad. Young men and old men will rejoice. I will turn their grief into gladness. I will give them comfort and joy in place of their sorrow.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians.
he will swallow up death permanently. The sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from every face, and remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. Indeed, the Lord has announced it!
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be suddenly caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:I have observed the burden that God has given to people to keep them occupied.God has made everything fit beautifully in its appropriate time, but he has also placed ignorance in the human heart so that people cannot discover what God has ordained, from the beginning to the end of their lives.I have concluded that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to enjoy themselves as long as they live,and also that everyone should eat and drink, and find enjoyment in all his toil, for these things are a gift from God.I also know that whatever God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken away from it. God has made it this way, so that men will fear him.Whatever exists now has already been, and whatever will be has already been; for God will seek to do again what has occurred in the past.I saw something else on earth: In the place of justice, there was wickedness, and in the place of fairness, there was wickedness.I thought to myself, “God will judge both the righteous and the wicked; for there is an appropriate time for every activity, and there is a time of judgment for every deed.I also thought to myself, “It is for the sake of people, so God can clearly show them that they are like animals.For the fate of humans and the fate of animals are the same: As one dies, so dies the other; both have the same breath. There is no advantage for humans over animals, for both are fleeting.A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot what was planted;
“Do not let your hearts be distressed. You believe in God; believe also in me.Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and that as the last he will stand upon the earth.
Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians.
If we live, we live for the Lord; if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: ‘Blessed are the dead, those who die in the Lord from this moment on!’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so they can rest from their hard work, because their deeds will follow them.”
Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. The devil is about to have some of you thrown into prison so you may be tested, and you will experience suffering for ten days. Remain faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown that is life itself.
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man.For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; then when Christ comes, those who belong to him.
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return there. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. May the name of the Lord be blessed!”
My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no one will snatch them from my hand.My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch them from my Father’s hand.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had ceased to exist, and the sea existed no more.So he took me away in the Spirit to a huge, majestic mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.The city possesses the glory of God; its brilliance is like a precious jewel, like a stone of crystal-clear jasper. It has a massive, high wall with twelve gates, with twelve angels at the gates, and the names of the twelve tribes of the nation of Israel are written on the gates. There are three gates on the east side, three gates on the north side, three gates on the south side and three gates on the west side. The wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. The angel who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city and its foundation stones and wall. Now the city is laid out as a square, its length and width the same. He measured the city with the measuring rod at fourteen hundred miles (its length and width and height are equal). He also measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubits according to human measurement, which is also the angel’s.The city’s wall is made of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass. The foundations of the city’s wall are decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation is jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,And I saw the holy city – the new Jerusalem – descending out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates are twelve pearls – each one of the gates is made from just one pearl! The main street of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass. Now I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God – the All-Powerful – and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur into it.Its gates will never be closed during the day (and there will be no night there). They will bring the grandeur and the wealth of the nations into it,but nothing ritually unclean will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Look! The residence of God is among human beings. He will live among them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them.He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.”And the one seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new!” Then he said to me, “Write it down, because these words are reliable and true.”
A good reputation is better than precious perfume; likewise, the day of one’s death is better than the day of one’s birth.
Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
I feel torn between the two, because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far,
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you – yes, I help you – yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!
God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble. He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”The Lord who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! (Selah)For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea,
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more – or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.”
Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”
And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
You keep completely safe the people who maintain their faith, for they trust in you.Trust in the Lord from this time forward, even in Yah, the Lord, an enduring protector!
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith! Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for me. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will award it to me in that day – and not to me only, but also to all who have set their affection on his appearing.
I look up toward the hills. From where does my help come?My help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth!
O Lord, you examine me and know.even there your hand would guide me, your right hand would grab hold of me.If I were to say, “Certainly the darkness will cover me, and the light will turn to night all around me,”even the darkness is not too dark for you to see, and the night is as bright as day; darkness and light are the same to you.Certainly you made my mind and heart; you wove me together in my mother’s womb.I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly;my bones were not hidden from you, when I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth.Your eyes saw me when I was inside the womb. All the days ordained for me were recorded in your scroll before one of them came into existence. How difficult it is for me to fathom your thoughts about me, O God! How vast is their sum total! If I tried to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. Even if I finished counting them, I would still have to contend with you.If only you would kill the wicked, O God! Get away from me, you violent men!You know when I sit down and when I get up; even from far away you understand my motives.
For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:I have observed the burden that God has given to people to keep them occupied.God has made everything fit beautifully in its appropriate time, but he has also placed ignorance in the human heart so that people cannot discover what God has ordained, from the beginning to the end of their lives.I have concluded that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to enjoy themselves as long as they live, and also that everyone should eat and drink, and find enjoyment in all his toil, for these things are a gift from God.I also know that whatever God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken away from it. There is no advantage for humans over animals, for both are fleeting.A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot what was planted; Both go to the same place, both come from the dust, and to dust both return.Who really knows if the human spirit ascends upward, and the animal’s spirit descends into the earth? So I perceived there is nothing better than for people to enjoy their work, because that is their reward; for who can show them what the future holds?A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Your eyes saw me when I was inside the womb. All the days ordained for me were recorded in your scroll before one of them came into existence.
The Lord’s loyal kindness never ceases; his compassions never end. They are fresh every morning; your faithfulness is abundant!
Your dead will come back to life; your corpses will rise up. Wake up and shout joyfully, you who live in the ground! For you will grow like plants drenched with the morning dew, and the earth will bring forth its dead spirits.
The Lord delivers and vindicates me! I fear no one! The Lord protects my life! I am afraid of no one!
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies, and the one who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.
My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.
The Lord delivers and vindicates me! I fear no one! The Lord protects my life! I am afraid of no one!Even if my father and mother abandoned me, the Lord would take me in.Teach me how you want me to live; lead me along a level path because of those who wait to ambush me!Do not turn me over to my enemies, for false witnesses who want to destroy me testify against me.Where would I be if I did not believe I would experience the Lord’s favor in the land of the living?Rely on the Lord! Be strong and confident! Rely on the Lord! When evil men attack me to devour my flesh, when my adversaries and enemies attack me, they stumble and fall.Even when an army is deployed against me, I do not fear. Even when war is imminent, I remain confident.
Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.and have been clothed with the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it.Here there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and in all. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. And to all these virtues add love, which is the perfect bond.Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body to this peace), and be thankful.Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth,
How blessed are those who find their strength in you, and long to travel the roads that lead to your temple! As they pass through the Baca Valley, he provides a spring for them. The rain even covers it with pools of water. They are sustained as they travel along; each one appears before God in Zion.
Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”
For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one’s life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning.
because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
For we know that if our earthly house, the tent we live in, is dismantled, we have a building from God, a house not built by human hands, that is eternal in the heavens. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be paid back according to what he has done while in the body, whether good or evil. Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people, but we are well known to God, and I hope we are well known to your consciences too.We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may be able to answer those who take pride in outward appearance and not in what is in the heart. For if we are out of our minds, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.For the love of Christ controls us, since we have concluded this, that Christ died for all; therefore all have died. And he died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised. So then from now on we acknowledge no one from an outward human point of view. Even though we have known Christ from such a human point of view, now we do not know him in that way any longer. So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away – look, what is new has come! And all these things are from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation. In other words, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting people’s trespasses against them, and he has given us the message of reconciliation. For in this earthly house we groan, because we desire to put on our heavenly dwelling,Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His plea through us. We plead with you on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God!”God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.if indeed, after we have put on our heavenly house, we will not be found naked. For we groan while we are in this tent, since we are weighed down, because we do not want to be unclothed, but clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a down payment.
