Unforgiveness is like a poison we take in small doses every day, but it eventually ends up poisoning us. It's so easy to hold onto those hurts, isn't it? But think about it: the Lord calls us to repent of our sins and seek His forgiveness. He also urges us to forgive those who offend or hurt us. It's a two-way street.
As children of God, we're called to practice forgiveness constantly. Imagine bringing your offering to the altar and suddenly remembering someone you've wronged, or someone who has wronged you. What do you do? Leave the offering right there, go and reconcile, and then come back and worship. It makes you think, doesn't it?
It's hypocritical to say we love the Lord but can't stand the people we see every day. Think about that for a second. God wants us, as the body of Christ, to practice the same kind of love He has for us – the kind of love that led Him to sacrifice His Son. That's powerful stuff.
Holding a grudge can be toxic, you know? It can eat away at you. Bitterness toward someone in your church isn't a sign of maturity, it's a sign that something needs to change in our hearts. We need to repent of any hypocrisy, drop the pretense, and be the unified church Jesus is coming back for: a pure church, without spot or wrinkle. That's what the Lord wants, and it's what we should strive for, too.
Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to say, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against another, forgive it, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your trespasses as well.”
Let the priests who minister before the Lord weep between the portico and the altar, saying, “Spare Your people, O Lord, and do not make Your heritage a reproach, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?”Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice.Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.
For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, let no one on the housetop come down to retrieve his possessions. Likewise, let no one in the field return for anything he has left behind.Remember Lot’s wife!Whoever tries to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it.I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed: One will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together: One will be taken and the other left.” “Where, Lord?” they asked. Jesus answered, “Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.”Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to say, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.
When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses,
Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too shall cry out and receive no answer.
And I will cleanse them from all the iniquity they have committed against Me, and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against Me.
consider this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against another, forgive it, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your trespasses as well.”
Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins or repaid us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving devotion for those who fear Him.As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake,in order that Satan should not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
That is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail.
So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still in the distance, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.The son declared, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.
If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
If You, O Lord, kept track of iniquities, then who, O Lord, could stand? But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be feared.
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
I, yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.
Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance— who does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in loving devotion? He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea.
“Do not judge, or you will be judged.Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.By their fruit you will recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your loving devotion; according to Your great compassion, blot out my transgressions.Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will return to You.Deliver me from bloodguilt, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing of Your righteousness.O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You take no pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. In Your good pleasure, cause Zion to prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, in whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.Wash me clean of my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.
He who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.
When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses, having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross!
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but loving devotion surrounds him who trusts in the Lord.Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O righteous ones; shout for joy, all you upright in heart.Blessed is the man whose iniquity the Lord does not count against him, in whose spirit there is no deceit.
“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as crimson, they will become like wool.
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up His garments by casting lots.
If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And we have this commandment from Him: Whoever loves God must love his brother as well.
