113 Bless Your Neighbor

113 Bless Your Neighbor

You were created to be a channel of blessing in the lives of those around you, reflecting God's glory here on earth. Think about it, you have this incredible opportunity to make a real difference.

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus gave us a powerful command: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" If you say you love God, but you don't love and bless your neighbor, something's not quite right. True love for God shows itself in how you treat others.

You can't say you love someone you can't see and then ignore the person standing right next to you. You're meant to be an extension of God's love wherever you go, with a generous heart, ready to lend a hand.

It's not just about words, it's about putting your faith into action. If you have the power to do good, do it! Remember, "Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously" (2 Corinthians 9:6). Don't just focus on what you can get, but on what you can give.

Live out Jesus' words, bring joy to His heart, and be a blessing. Your purpose is to bring smiles and hope to those who need God most. Don't just work for your own benefit; remember you've been blessed to be a blessing.

Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you understand it?”The expert answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”Jesus said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”But the expert, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”Go! I am sending you out like lambs surrounded by wolves.Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him up, and went off, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.So too a Levite, when he came up to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan who was traveling came to where the injured man was, and when he saw him, he felt compassion for him.He went up to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever else you spend, I will repay you when I come back this way.’Which of these three do you think became a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”The expert in religious law said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

Genesis 18:1-3

The Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent during the hottest time of the day.One of them said, “I will surely return to you when the season comes round again, and your wife Sarah will have a son!” (Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, not far behind him.Abraham and Sarah were old and advancing in years; Sarah had long since passed menopause.)So Sarah laughed to herself, thinking, “After I am worn out will I have pleasure, especially when my husband is old too?”The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child when I am old?’Is anything impossible for the Lord? I will return to you when the season comes round again and Sarah will have a son.”Then Sarah lied, saying, “I did not laugh,” because she was afraid. But the Lord said, “No! You did laugh.”When the men got up to leave, they looked out over Sodom. (Now Abraham was walking with them to see them on their way.)Then the Lord said, “Should I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?After all, Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations on the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using his name.I have chosen him so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then the Lord will give to Abraham what he promised him.”Abraham looked up and saw three men standing across from him. When he saw them he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. So the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so blatantthat I must go down and see if they are as wicked as the outcry suggests. If not, I want to know.”The two men turned and headed toward Sodom, but Abraham was still standing before the Lord.Abraham approached and said, “Will you sweep away the godly along with the wicked? What if there are fifty godly people in the city? Will you really wipe it out and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty godly people who are in it?Far be it from you to do such a thing – to kill the godly with the wicked, treating the godly and the wicked alike! Far be it from you! Will not the judge of the whole earth do what is right?”So the Lord replied, “If I find in the city of Sodom fifty godly people, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”Then Abraham asked, “Since I have undertaken to speak to the Lord (although I am but dust and ashes),what if there are five less than the fifty godly people? Will you destroy the whole city because five are lacking?” He replied, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”Abraham spoke to him again, “What if forty are found there?” He replied, “I will not do it for the sake of the forty.”He said, “My lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by and leave your servant.

Gather us from among the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds. The Lord God of Israel deserves praise, in the future and forevermore. Therefore, be imitators of God as dearly loved childrentrying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For the things they do in secret are shameful even to mention. But all things being exposed by the light are made evident. For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says: “Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”Therefore be very careful how you live – not as unwise but as wise, taking advantage of every opportunity, because the days are evil. For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise by understanding what the Lord’s will is.And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord, and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

How blessed is the one who obeys the Lord, who takes great delight in keeping his commands. When the wicked see this, they will worry; they will grind their teeth in frustration and melt away; the desire of the wicked will perish. His descendants will be powerful on the earth; the godly will be blessed.

Prayer

Faithful and true God, Almighty Lord! I praise you for you are just, holy, and worthy of all supreme praise and adoration. In Jesus' name, I place (...) before you, asking that you be their Lord, adding blessing and abundance in all things in their life and family. Fill them with your love, your peace, your holiness. Good Father, pour out eternal life, grace, and favor. May your Holy Spirit convict them of sin, righteousness, and judgment, so they may be a witness to your power and majesty. I ask that you, Lord, provide for their needs according to your glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Prosper them and bring order to every area of their life. Renew their strength. I declare that your peace, Holy Spirit, guards their conscience and heart. Your word says, Lord, "Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." Therefore, I pray that you unleash your blessing upon them, so they may testify that you are their sole provider. Lord, deliver their life from evil, lead them not into temptation, but turn their eyes to you so they do not stray from your path. I declare that they are free from every bond and every curse, and that your blessings will follow and overtake them every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
