123 Verses of Comfort for the Time of Mourning
Comfort comes like a calming hug, a gentle breeze on your soul, and in the loving words of those around you. And, you know, in those really tough times, you can feel Jesus right there with you. There are people in your life who can offer comfort, holding you up when you feel like you're falling apart, reminding you of how precious you are. God's presence shines through them, like an extension of the Holy Spirit's comfort when you need it most.
It's so important to remember you're not alone in your struggles, even when the tears just won't stop. In those moments, God is reminding you that He loves you. His comfort is like the best medicine, strengthening you from the inside out, filling those deep-down empty spaces. Letting yourself be comforted is like accepting a little bit of heaven, so don't be afraid to open yourself up and let your vulnerability show.
Showing your brokenness isn't weakness. Those who mourn are blessed, finding comfort in the Almighty. So right now, let that comfort sink into your heart, lift your spirits. Even if things seem gray right now, the sun will shine again, and you'll see that even in the hard times, Jesus is right there with you. Even when you don't understand, remember that all things work together for good, according to His purpose for your life. Just like 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says, God, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, is with us in our troubles, so that we can comfort others with the same comfort we've received. And just as everything is working for your good, you are being comforted so that you can offer comfort and show God's love to a world that really needs it.
You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, in order that he may be with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not see him or know him. You know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.
Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in all affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,
The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound,to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor, and our God’s day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning,to give for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.
Even when I walk in a dark valley, I fear no evil because you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Now may the God of patient endurance and of encouragement grant you to be in agreement with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus,
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places; but if not, I would have told you, because I am going away to prepare a place for you.And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also.

Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, “I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you.”
enabled with all power, according to his glorious might, for all steadfastness and patience with joy,
He gives power to the weary, and he increases power for the powerless.Even young people will be faint and grow weary, and the young will stumble, exhausted.But those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength. They shall go up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not be faint.
Only for God my soul waits in silence. From him is my salvation.Only he is my rock and my salvation, my high stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace,encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.
to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor, and our God’s day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning,
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, because I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father—that one will testify about me.
For Yahweh will comfort Zion; he will comfort all its sites of ruins. And he will make its wilderness like Eden, and its desert like the garden of Yahweh. Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the sound of song.
Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.For my yoke is easy to carry and my burden is light.”
For whatever was written beforehand was written for our instruction, in order that through patient endurance and through the encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.
As a man whose mother comforts him, so I myself will comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
Now we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you will not grieve as also the rest, who have no hope.For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, thus also God will bring those who have fallen asleep through Jesus together with him.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains; whence will my help come?My help is from Yahweh, maker of heaven and earth.
But the one who prophesies speaks to people edification and encouragement and consolation.
For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-discipline.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace,
You have kept count of my wonderings. Put my tears in your bottle; are they not in your book?
And you will say on that day, “I will give you thanks, Yahweh, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, and you comforted me.
Reproach has broken my heart and I am sick. And I hoped for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.
I waited patiently for Yahweh, And he inclined to me and heard my cry for help.And so he brought me up from the roaring pit, from the miry clay. And he put my feet upon a rock; he made my steps steady.Then he put a new song in my mouth, a praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and will trust Yahweh.
Behold, I tell you a mystery: we will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed,in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for the one who promised is faithful.
I await Yahweh; my soul awaits, and I wait for his word.My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning. Yes, more than watchmen for the morning.
For I consider that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us.
And Yahweh will be a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of distress.And those who know your name will trust in you, for you do not forsake those who seek you, O Yahweh.
For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: “I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
God is our refuge and strength, a very sufficient help in troubles.Therefore we will not fear though the earth change, and though the mountains totter into the midst of the sea,
teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age.”
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch you.
Trust Yahweh with all your heart; do not lean toward your own understanding.In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will straighten your paths.
Great peace is for those who love your law, and they do not have a cause for stumbling.
I have said these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction, but have courage! I have conquered the world.”
See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that we should be called children of God, and we are! Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him.
Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me alive. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my enemies, and you save me with your right hand.
I rise early in the dawn and cry for help; I hope in your word.My eyes anticipate the night watches, that I may meditate on your word.
For we know that if our earthly house, the tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made by hands, eternal in the heavens.
Yahweh will protect you from all evil; he will protect your life.Yahweh will protect your going out and your coming in from now until forever.

convinced of this same thing, that the one who began a good work in you will finish it until the day of Christ Jesus,
Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.
This God, his way is blameless; the promise of Yahweh is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him.
A tower of strength is the name of Yahweh; into him the righteous will run and be safe.
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; your Spirit is good. Lead me onto level ground.
Therefore we do not lose heart, but even if our outer person is being destroyed, yet our inner person is being renewed day after day.For our momentary light affliction is producing in us an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure and proportion,because we are not looking at what is seen, but what is not seen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is not seen is eternal.

Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you.”
nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And my God will fulfill your every need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits:who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with loyal love and mercies,
In the day I have trouble, I seek the Lord. At night my hand stretches out continually; my soul refuses to be comforted.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s possession, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,
O Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me.You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought from afar.
By his evildoing, the wicked will be overthrown, and the righteous will find refuge in his death.
“What gain is there in my death, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Then they called to Yahweh for help in their trouble; he saved them from their distresses.He brought them out of darkness and gloom, and tore off their bonds.
I love him, because Yahweh has heard the voice of my supplications.Because he has inclined his ear to me, I will call all my days.
You must not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your offspring from the east, and I will gather you from the west.
Rejoice always,pray constantly,give thanks in everything; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you—not as the world gives, I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
For there is a moment in his anger; there is a lifetime in his favor. Weeping lodges for the evening, but in the morning comes rejoicing.
Yahweh is near to those who are heartbroken and saves those who are crushed in spirit.Many are the distresses of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all.
You who have caused me to see many troubles and evils, you will again revive me. And from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.You will increase my greatness, and you will comfort me all around.On my part, I will praise you with a stringed instrument, and your faithfulness, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel.
“I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man? He dies! And of the son of humankind? He is sacrificed as grass!
For I know the plans that I am planning concerning you,’ declares Yahweh, ‘plans for prosperity and not for harm, to give to you a future and a hope.Then when you call me, and you come and pray to me, then I will listen to you.When you search for me, then you will find me, if you seek me with all your heart.
For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, thus through Christ our comfort overflows also.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity, and he will take up residence with them, and they will be his people and God himself will be with them.And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any longer, and mourning or wailing or pain will not exist any longer. The former things have passed away.”
