After a long day, nothing's better for you than some good rest. Your body's always sending you signals when something's not right, so it's important to pay attention. Rest is crucial for both your physical and mental health.
These days, so many of us are dealing with mental exhaustion more than physical, thanks to the everyday demands of life. It can really steal your peace and make it hard to trust in God. Lack of rest can make you irritable, lose focus on what truly matters, and slip into a complaining mindset, forgetting to be grateful.
Being exhausted affects everything – your productivity, your ability to enjoy the things you normally do. And quick fixes aren't going to cut it. The only real source of rest and renewal is Jesus Christ. Trips, shopping sprees, hanging out with friends – those things can be nice distractions, but only the presence of the Holy Spirit can bring true relief.
The good news is, God offers rest to those who are weary, burdened, and overwhelmed. The peace that comes from Him is unlike anything this world offers, and it lasts forever.
Matthew 11:28 invites all those who labor and are heavy laden to find rest in Jesus. There's no other sure way to find deep, lasting rest. If you've tried everything and still feel weighed down, it's time to turn to the best source there is: God. He's the ultimate therapist, the place where you'll find the strength to keep going and enjoy life again.
Let God's love bring you serenity. Take a deep breath and release all that exhaustion in Jesus' name. Just like the Psalmist David, you can say, "Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you" (Psalm 116:7).
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He takes me to lush pastures, he leads me to refreshing water. He restores my strength. He leads me down the right paths for the sake of his reputation.
It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food. Yes, he can provide for those whom he loves even when they sleep.
But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Wait patiently for the Lord! Wait confidently for him! Do not fret over the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes!
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He takes me to lush pastures, he leads me to refreshing water.
So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
As for you, the one who lives in the shelter of the sovereign One, and resides in the protective shadow of the mighty king –No harm will overtake you; no illness will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you in all you do.They will lift you up in their hands, so you will not slip and fall on a stone. You will subdue a lion and a snake; you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent. The Lord says, “Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me.When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor.I will satisfy him with long life, and will let him see my salvation.I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust –
May he not allow your foot to slip! May your protector not sleep!Look! Israel’s protector does not sleep or slumber!
Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”
Thus we must make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.
He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”
Better is one handful with some rest than two hands full of toil and chasing the wind.
I say, “I wish I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and settle in a safe place!Look, I will escape to a distant place; I will stay in the wilderness. (Selah)
Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
When you lie down you will not be filled with fear; when you lie down your sleep will be pleasant.
For the one who enters God’s rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his own works.
In the past he said to them, “This is where security can be found. Provide security for the one who is exhausted! This is where rest can be found.” But they refused to listen.
O God, you are my God! I long for you! My soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
By the seventh day God finished the work that he had been doing, and he ceased on the seventh day all the work that he had been doing. So the man named all the animals, the birds of the air, and the living creatures of the field, but for Adam no companion who corresponded to him was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he was asleep, he took part of the man’s side and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”That is why a man leaves his father and mother and unites with his wife, and they become a new family. The man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed.God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he ceased all the work that he had been doing in creation.
For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest!’” And yet God’s works were accomplished from the foundation of the world.
For David said, “The Lord God of Israel has given his people rest and has permanently settled in Jerusalem.
You must observe the Sabbath rather than doing anything you please on my holy day. You must look forward to the Sabbath and treat the Lord’s holy day with respect. You must treat it with respect by refraining from your normal activities, and by refraining from your selfish pursuits and from making business deals. Then you will find joy in your relationship to the Lord, and I will give you great prosperity, and cause crops to grow on the land I gave to your ancestor Jacob.” Know for certain that the Lord has spoken.
My people will live in peaceful settlements, in secure homes, and in safe, quiet places.
Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice – alive, holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service.Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another.Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord.Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering, persist in prayer.Contribute to the needs of the saints, pursue hospitality.Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse.Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people.Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
And you will be secure, because there is hope; you will be protected and will take your rest in safety.
He said, “This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it.
It is fitting to thank the Lord, and to sing praises to your name, O sovereign One!You exalt my horn like that of a wild ox. I am covered with fresh oil.I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me; I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me.The godly grow like a palm tree; they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon.Planted in the Lord’s house, they grow in the courts of our God.They bear fruit even when they are old; they are filled with vitality and have many leaves. So they proclaim that the Lord, my protector, is just and never unfair. It is fitting to proclaim your loyal love in the morning, and your faithfulness during the night,
He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.
Look, you will have a son, who will be a peaceful man. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. Indeed, Solomon will be his name; I will give Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
Even when I must walk in the midst of danger, you revive me. You oppose my angry enemies, and your right hand delivers me.
But I trust in your faithfulness. May I rejoice because of your deliverance!I will sing praises to the Lord when he vindicates me.
Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body to this peace), and be thankful.
The law you have revealed is more important to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver. י (Yod)
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,
Yet he brought out his people like sheep; he led them through the wilderness like a flock. He guided them safely along, while the sea covered their enemies.
As for you, the one who lives in the shelter of the sovereign One, and resides in the protective shadow of the mighty king –
Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
O God, hear my cry for help! Pay attention to my prayer! From the most remote place on earth I call out to you in my despair. Lead me up to an inaccessible rocky summit!
Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
In my distress I cried out to the Lord. The Lord answered me and put me in a wide open place.
And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
I love the Lord because he heard my plea for mercy,I had faith when I said, “I am severely oppressed.”I rashly declared, “All men are liars.”How can I repay the Lord for all his acts of kindness to me?I will celebrate my deliverance, and call on the name of the Lord.I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all his people. The Lord values the lives of his faithful followers.Yes, Lord! I am indeed your servant; I am your lowest slave. You saved me from death.I will present a thank offering to you, and call on the name of the Lord.I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all his people,in the courts of the Lord’s temple, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!and listened to me. As long as I live, I will call to him when I need help.
I have seen their behavior, but I will heal them and give them rest, and I will once again console those who mourn.I am the one who gives them reason to celebrate. Complete prosperity is available both to those who are far away and those who are nearby,” says the Lord, “and I will heal them.
You are my hiding place; you protect me from distress. You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance. (Selah)
God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble. He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”The Lord who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! (Selah)For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea, when its waves crash and foam, and the mountains shake before the surging sea. (Selah)
If I say, “My foot is slipping,” your loyal love, O Lord, supports me.When worries threaten to overwhelm me, your soothing touch makes me happy.
So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy and may your spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
May those who desire my vindication shout for joy and rejoice! May they continually say, “May the Lord be praised, for he wants his servant to be secure.”
But he lifted up our illnesses, he carried our pain; even though we thought he was being punished, attacked by God, and afflicted for something he had done.
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance.I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing.
So we must not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up.
I look up toward the hills. From where does my help come?My help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth!
Consequently the Lord provides safety for the oppressed; he provides safety in times of trouble.
Even all the hairs on your head are numbered. So do not be afraid; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you – yes, I help you – yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!
Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.
Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
The Lord deserves praise! Day after day he carries our burden, the God who delivers us. (Selah)
How blessed are those whose actions are blameless, who obey the law of the Lord. With all my heart I seek you. Do not allow me to stray from your commands!I am more discerning than those older than I, for I observe your precepts.I stay away from the evil path, so that I might keep your instructions.I do not turn aside from your regulations, for you teach me.Your words are sweeter in my mouth than honey!Your precepts give me discernment. Therefore I hate all deceitful actions. נ (Nun)Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.I have vowed and solemnly sworn to keep your just regulations.I am suffering terribly. O Lord, revive me with your word!O Lord, please accept the freewill offerings of my praise! Teach me your regulations! My life is in continual danger, but I do not forget your law.In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you.The wicked lay a trap for me, but I do not wander from your precepts.I claim your rules as my permanent possession, for they give me joy.I am determined to obey your statutes at all times, to the very end. ס (Samek) ֹ119:113 I hate people with divided loyalties, but I love your law.You are my hiding place and my shield. I find hope in your word.Turn away from me, you evil men, so that I can observe the commands of my God.Sustain me as you promised, so that I will live. Do not disappoint me!Support me, so that I will be delivered. Then I will focus on your statutes continually. You despise all who stray from your statutes, for they are deceptive and unreliable. You remove all the wicked of the earth like slag. Therefore I love your rules. You deserve praise, O Lord! Teach me your statutes! My body trembles because I fear you; I am afraid of your judgments. ע (Ayin)I do what is fair and right. Do not abandon me to my oppressors!Guarantee the welfare of your servant! Do not let the arrogant oppress me!My eyes grow tired as I wait for your deliverance, for your reliable promise to be fulfilled.Show your servant your loyal love! Teach me your statutes!I am your servant. Give me insight, so that I can understand your rules. It is time for the Lord to act – they break your law!For this reason I love your commands more than gold, even purest gold. For this reason I carefully follow all your precepts. I hate all deceitful actions. פ (Pe)Your rules are marvelous. Therefore I observe them. With my lips I proclaim all the regulations you have revealed.Your instructions are a doorway through which light shines. They give insight to the untrained.I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commands.Turn toward me and extend mercy to me, as you typically do to your loyal followers.Direct my steps by your word! Do not let any sin dominate me!Deliver me from oppressive men, so that I can keep your precepts.Smile on your servant! Teach me your statutes!Tears stream down from my eyes, because people do not keep your law. צ (Tsade)You are just, O Lord, and your judgments are fair. The rules you impose are just, and absolutely reliable. My zeal consumes me, for my enemies forget your instructions.I rejoice in the lifestyle prescribed by your rules as if they were riches of all kinds.Your word is absolutely pure, and your servant loves it!I am insignificant and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts.Your justice endures, and your law is reliable.Distress and hardship confront me, yet I find delight in your commands.Your rules remain just. Give me insight so that I can live. ק (Qof)I cried out with all my heart, “Answer me, O Lord! I will observe your statutes.”I cried out to you, “Deliver me, so that I can keep your rules.”I am up before dawn crying for help. I find hope in your word.My eyes anticipate the nighttime hours, so that I can meditate on your word.Listen to me because of your loyal love! O Lord, revive me, as you typically do!I will meditate on your precepts and focus on your behavior. Those who are eager to do wrong draw near; they are far from your law.You are near, O Lord, and all your commands are reliable.I learned long ago that you ordained your rules to last. ר (Resh)See my pain and rescue me! For I do not forget your law.Fight for me and defend me! Revive me with your word! The wicked have no chance for deliverance, for they do not seek your statutes.Your compassion is great, O Lord. Revive me, as you typically do!The enemies who chase me are numerous. Yet I do not turn aside from your rules.I take note of the treacherous and despise them, because they do not keep your instructions.See how I love your precepts! O Lord, revive me with your loyal love!I find delight in your statutes; I do not forget your instructions. ג (Gimel)Your instructions are totally reliable; all your just regulations endure. שׂ/שׁ (Sin/Shin)Rulers pursue me for no reason, yet I am more afraid of disobeying your instructions.I rejoice in your instructions, like one who finds much plunder.I hate and despise deceit; I love your law.Seven times a day I praise you because of your just regulations. Those who love your law are completely secure; nothing causes them to stumble.I hope for your deliverance, O Lord, and I obey your commands.I keep your rules; I love them greatly.I keep your precepts and rules, for you are aware of everything I do. ת (Tav)Listen to my cry for help, O Lord! Give me insight by your word!Be kind to your servant! Then I will live and keep your instructions.Listen to my appeal for mercy! Deliver me, as you promised.May praise flow freely from my lips, for you teach me your statutes.May my tongue sing about your instructions, for all your commands are just.May your hand help me, for I choose to obey your precepts.I long for your deliverance, O Lord; I find delight in your law.May I live and praise you! May your regulations help me!I have wandered off like a lost sheep. Come looking for your servant, for I do not forget your commands.Open my eyes so I can truly see the marvelous things in your law!I am like a foreigner in this land. Do not hide your commands from me!How blessed are those who observe his rules, and seek him with all their heart,
Let the oppressed eat and be filled! Let those who seek his help praise the Lord! May you live forever!
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
I will instruct and teach you about how you should live. I will advise you as I look you in the eye.
This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials.Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold – gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away – and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is your life because of righteousness. Moreover if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through his Spirit who lives in you.So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh(for if you live according to the flesh, you will die), but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.”The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are God’s children. And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ) – if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him.For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the glory that will be revealed to us.For the creation eagerly waits for the revelation of the sons of God.For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Even when I must walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff reassure me.
“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.Look, the sovereign Lord comes as a victorious warrior; his military power establishes his rule. Look, his reward is with him; his prize goes before him.Like a shepherd he tends his flock; he gathers up the lambs with his arm; he carries them close to his heart; he leads the ewes along.Who has measured out the waters in the hollow of his hand, or carefully measured the sky, or carefully weighed the soil of the earth, or weighed the mountains in a balance, or the hills on scales?Who comprehends the mind of the Lord, or gives him instruction as his counselor? From whom does he receive directions? Who teaches him the correct way to do things, or imparts knowledge to him, or instructs him in skillful design?Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales. He lifts the coastlands as if they were dust. Not even Lebanon could supply enough firewood for a sacrifice; its wild animals would not provide enough burnt offerings. All the nations are insignificant before him; they are regarded as absolutely nothing. To whom can you compare God? To what image can you liken him?A craftsman casts an idol; a metalsmith overlays it with gold and forges silver chains for it.“Speak kindly to Jerusalem, and tell her that her time of warfare is over, that her punishment is completed. For the Lord has made her pay double for all her sins.”
I relied completely on the Lord, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help.I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness.O Lord, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me!For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me.Please be willing, O Lord, to rescue me! O Lord, hurry and help me!May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed!May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” be humiliated and disgraced!May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, “May the Lord be praised!”I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay! He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the Lord!
You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight.
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
You are good to your servant, O Lord, just as you promised.Teach me proper discernment and understanding! For I consider your commands to be reliable.
The name of the Lord is like a strong tower; the righteous person runs to it and is set safely on high.
The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, and in those who wait for his loyal love.
Now may the God of endurance and comfort give you unity with one another in accordance with Christ Jesus,so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And this is the confidence that we have before him: that whenever we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.
And let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works, not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawing near.
“The Lord is worthy of praise because he has made Israel his people secure just as he promised! Not one of all the faithful promises he made through his servant Moses is left unfulfilled!
For this is what the master, the Lord, the Holy One of Israel says: “If you repented and patiently waited for me, you would be delivered; if you calmly trusted in me you would find strength, but you are unwilling.
The Lord said to his people: “You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path. Ask where the old, reliable paths are. Ask where the path is that leads to blessing and follow it. If you do, you will find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not follow it!”
I myself will feed my sheep and I myself will make them lie down, declares the sovereign Lord.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”
