117 Bible Verses about Rest

117 Bible Verses about Rest

After a long day, nothing's better for you than some good rest. Your body's always sending you signals when something's not right, so it's important to pay attention. Rest is crucial for both your physical and mental health.

These days, so many of us are dealing with mental exhaustion more than physical, thanks to the everyday demands of life. It can really steal your peace and make it hard to trust in God. Lack of rest can make you irritable, lose focus on what truly matters, and slip into a complaining mindset, forgetting to be grateful.

Being exhausted affects everything – your productivity, your ability to enjoy the things you normally do. And quick fixes aren't going to cut it. The only real source of rest and renewal is Jesus Christ. Trips, shopping sprees, hanging out with friends – those things can be nice distractions, but only the presence of the Holy Spirit can bring true relief.

The good news is, God offers rest to those who are weary, burdened, and overwhelmed. The peace that comes from Him is unlike anything this world offers, and it lasts forever.

Matthew 11:28 invites all those who labor and are heavy laden to find rest in Jesus. There's no other sure way to find deep, lasting rest. If you've tried everything and still feel weighed down, it's time to turn to the best source there is: God. He's the ultimate therapist, the place where you'll find the strength to keep going and enjoy life again.

Let God's love bring you serenity. Take a deep breath and release all that exhaustion in Jesus' name. Just like the Psalmist David, you can say, "Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you" (Psalm 116:7).

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the Law of the Lord.With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments.I understand more than those who are old, Because I have complied with Your precepts.I have restrained my feet from every evil way, So that I may keep Your word.I have not turned aside from Your judgments, For You Yourself have taught me.How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.¶Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous judgments.I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, Lord, according to Your word. Be pleased to accept the voluntary offerings of my mouth, Lord, And teach me Your judgments.My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your Law.I have treasured Your word in my heart, So that I may not sin against You.The wicked have set a trap for me, Yet I have not wandered from Your precepts.I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart.I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, even to the end.¶I hate those who are double-minded, But I love Your Law.You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word. Deal with Your servant according to Your graciousness, And teach me Your statutes.I am Your servant; give me understanding, So that I may know Your testimonies.It is time for the Lord to act, For they have broken Your Law.Therefore I love Your commandments Above gold, yes, above pure gold.Therefore I carefully follow all Your precepts concerning everything, I hate every false way.¶Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul complies with them.With my lips I have told of All the ordinances of Your mouth.The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.I opened my mouth wide and panted, For I longed for Your commandments.Turn to me and be gracious to me, As is right for those who love Your name.Establish my footsteps in Your word, And do not let any wrongdoing have power over me. Redeem me from oppression by man, So that I may keep Your precepts.Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes.My eyes shed streams of water, Because they do not keep Your Law.¶You are righteous, Lord, And Your judgments are right.You have commanded Your testimonies in righteousness And great faithfulness.My zeal has consumed me, Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. Your word is very pure, Therefore Your servant loves it.I am small and despised, Yet I do not forget Your precepts.Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your Law is truth.Trouble and anguish have come upon me, Yet Your commandments are my delight.Your testimonies are righteous forever; Give me understanding that I may live.¶I cried out with all my heart; answer me, Lord! I will comply with Your statutes.I cried to You; save me And I shall keep Your testimonies.I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words. My eyes anticipate the night watches, So that I may meditate on Your word. Hear my voice according to Your faithfulness; Revive me, Lord, according to Your judgments.I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. Those who follow after wickedness approach; They are far from Your Law.You are near, Lord, And all Your commandments are truth.From long ago I have known from Your testimonies That You have founded them forever.¶Look at my affliction and rescue me, For I have not forgotten Your Law.Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me according to Your word. Salvation is far from the wicked, For they do not seek Your statutes.Great are Your mercies, Lord; Revive me according to Your judgments.Many are my persecutors and my enemies, Yet I do not turn aside from Your testimonies.I see the treacherous and loathe them, Because they do not keep Your word.Consider how I love Your precepts; Revive me, Lord, according to Your faithfulness.I shall delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments is everlasting.¶Rulers persecute me without cause, But my heart stands in awe of Your words.I rejoice at Your word, Like one who finds great plunder.I hate and loathe falsehood, But I love Your Law.Seven times a day I praise You Because of Your righteous judgments.Those who love Your Law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stumble. I hope for Your salvation, Lord, And do Your commandments.My soul keeps Your testimonies, And I love them exceedingly.I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies, For all my ways are before You.¶Let my cry come before You, Lord; Give me understanding according to Your word.¶Deal generously with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.Let my pleading come before You; Save me according to Your word. Let my lips pour out praise, For You teach me Your statutes.Let my tongue sing about Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.Let Your hand be ready to help me, For I have chosen Your precepts.I long for Your salvation, Lord, And Your Law is my delight.Let my soul live that it may praise You, And let Your ordinances help me.I have wandered about like a lost sheep; search for Your servant, For I do not forget Your commandments.Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your Law.I am a stranger on the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.Blessed are those who comply with His testimonies, And seek Him with all their heart.

1 Peter 1:6-7

In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Romans 8:1-2

Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus.If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—for if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God.For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.For the eagerly awaiting creation waits for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God.For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

Isaiah 40:1-2

“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.Behold, the Lord God will come with might, With His arm ruling for Him. Behold, His compensation is with Him, And His reward before Him.Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in the fold of His robe; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.¶Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And measured the heavens with a span, And calculated the dust of the earth with a measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales?Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, Or as His counselor has informed Him?With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge, And informed Him of the way of understanding?Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust. Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, Nor its animals enough for a burnt offering.All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless. ¶To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him?As for the idol, a craftsman casts it, A goldsmith plates it with gold, And a silversmith fashions chains of silver.“Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And call out to her, that her warfare has ended, That her guilt has been removed, That she has received of the Lord’s hand Double for all her sins.”

Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord; And He reached down to me and heard my cry.I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your mercy and Your truth from the great congregation.¶You, Lord, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your mercy and Your truth will continually watch over me. For evils beyond number have surrounded me; My guilty deeds have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see; They are more numerous than the hairs of my head, And my heart has failed me. ¶Be pleased, Lord, to rescue me; Hurry, Lord, to help me.May those be ashamed and humiliated together Who seek my life to destroy it; May those be turned back and dishonored Who delight in my hurt. May those be appalled because of their shame Who say to me, “Aha, aha!”May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; May those who love Your salvation continually say, “The Lord be exalted!”But I am afflicted and needy; May the Lord be mindful of me. You are my help and my savior; Do not delay, my God.He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud; And He set my feet on a rock, making my footsteps firm.He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the Lord.

Prayer

I adore you, my God. You are my refuge, my portion, my savior, the one who lifts my head. In the name of Jesus, I pray to you, my Father, because I feel anxiety and despair draining my strength. I come to you because you are my shelter, and I lay all my worries at your feet. Help me, Holy Spirit, and give me the humility and determination to read your word when I feel weary, and through your promise, find rest for my soul. Your word says, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Help me to walk in your peace. I want to be filled with your tranquility. Renew me, transform my heart and mind so that I stop agonizing over unnecessary things. Remind me, Lord, of the times you've been faithful in the past so I can look forward with confidence, knowing you uphold me with the right hand of your righteousness. I declare that I trust you in every area of my life, because it is written, "Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." You are my defender against adversity, my shield against the enemy, you are my glory, my God, the one who lifts my head. Let me find in your presence the strength I need to move forward. Lord, my mind, body, and spirit feel tired and worn out. Things in my life feel impossible. Help me understand that it's not by my strength but by yours that I must wait in faith while you work. By your grace, keep me from depression, anger, and resentment. Protect me in the storms of life and give me wisdom to make good decisions and please you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
