117 Bible Verses about Rest

117 Bible Verses about Rest

After a long day, nothing's better for you than some good rest. Your body's always sending you signals when something's not right, so it's important to pay attention. Rest is crucial for both your physical and mental health.

These days, so many of us are dealing with mental exhaustion more than physical, thanks to the everyday demands of life. It can really steal your peace and make it hard to trust in God. Lack of rest can make you irritable, lose focus on what truly matters, and slip into a complaining mindset, forgetting to be grateful.

Being exhausted affects everything – your productivity, your ability to enjoy the things you normally do. And quick fixes aren't going to cut it. The only real source of rest and renewal is Jesus Christ. Trips, shopping sprees, hanging out with friends – those things can be nice distractions, but only the presence of the Holy Spirit can bring true relief.

The good news is, God offers rest to those who are weary, burdened, and overwhelmed. The peace that comes from Him is unlike anything this world offers, and it lasts forever.

Matthew 11:28 invites all those who labor and are heavy laden to find rest in Jesus. There's no other sure way to find deep, lasting rest. If you've tried everything and still feel weighed down, it's time to turn to the best source there is: God. He's the ultimate therapist, the place where you'll find the strength to keep going and enjoy life again.

Let God's love bring you serenity. Take a deep breath and release all that exhaustion in Jesus' name. Just like the Psalmist David, you can say, "Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you" (Psalm 116:7).

So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh. And from the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. I will obey Your statutes.I call to You; save me, that I may keep Your testimonies.I rise before dawn and cry for help; in Your word I have put my hope.My eyes anticipate the watches of night, that I may meditate on Your word.Hear my voice, O Lord, according to Your loving devotion; give me life according to Your justice.I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. Those who follow after wickedness draw near; they are far from Your law.You are near, O Lord, and all Your commandments are true.Long ago I learned from Your testimonies that You have established them forever.Look upon my affliction and rescue me, for I have not forgotten Your law.Defend my cause and redeem me; revive me according to Your word.Salvation is far from the wicked because they do not seek Your statutes.Great are Your mercies, O Lord; revive me according to Your ordinances.Though my persecutors and foes are many, I have not turned from Your testimonies.I look on the faithless with loathing because they do not keep Your word.Consider how I love Your precepts, O Lord; give me life according to Your loving devotion.I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word. The entirety of Your word is truth, and all Your righteous judgments endure forever.Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart fears only Your word.I rejoice in Your promise like one who finds great spoil.I hate and abhor falsehood, but Your law I love.Seven times a day I praise You for Your righteous judgments.Abundant peace belongs to those who love Your instruction; nothing can make them stumble.I wait for Your salvation, O Lord, and I carry out Your commandments.I obey Your testimonies and love them greatly.I obey Your precepts and Your testimonies, for all my ways are before You.May my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your word.Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.May my plea come before You; rescue me according to Your promise. My lips pour forth praise, for You teach me Your statutes. My tongue sings of Your word, for all Your commandments are righteous.May Your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen Your precepts.I long for Your salvation, O Lord, and Your law is my delight.Let me live to praise You; may Your judgments sustain me.I have strayed like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I have not forgotten Your commandments.Open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from Your law.I am a stranger on the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.Blessed are those who keep His testimonies and seek Him with all their heart.

Romans 8:1-2

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.The creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God.For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.

Isaiah 40:1-2

“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and His arm establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His recompense accompanies Him.He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads the nursing ewes.Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or marked off the heavens with the span of his hand? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on a scale and the hills with a balance?Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or informed Him as His counselor? Whom did He consult to enlighten Him, and who taught Him the paths of justice? Who imparted knowledge to Him and showed Him the way of understanding?Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered a speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust. Lebanon is not sufficient for fuel, nor its animals enough for a burnt offering. All the nations are as nothing before Him; He regards them as nothingness and emptiness. To whom will you liken God? To what image will you compare Him?To an idol that a craftsman casts and a metalworker overlays with gold and fits with silver chains?“Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her forced labor has been completed; her iniquity has been pardoned. For she has received from the hand of the Lord double for all her sins.”

Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me and heard my cry.I have not covered up Your righteousness in my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and salvation; I have not concealed Your loving devotion and faithfulness from the great assembly.O Lord, do not withhold Your mercy from me; Your loving devotion and faithfulness will always guard me.For evils without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed within me.Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; hurry, O Lord, to help me.May those who seek my life be ashamed and confounded; may those who wish me harm be repelled and humiliated.May those who say to me, “Aha, aha!” be appalled at their own shame.May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; may those who love Your salvation always say, “The Lord be magnified!”But I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my helper and deliverer; O my God, do not delay. He lifted me up from the pit of despair, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my footsteps firm.He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.

Prayer

I adore you, my God. You are my refuge, my portion, my savior, the one who lifts my head. In the name of Jesus, I pray to you, my Father, because I feel anxiety and despair draining my strength. I come to you because you are my shelter, and I lay all my worries at your feet. Help me, Holy Spirit, and give me the humility and determination to read your word when I feel weary, and through your promise, find rest for my soul. Your word says, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Help me to walk in your peace. I want to be filled with your tranquility. Renew me, transform my heart and mind so that I stop agonizing over unnecessary things. Remind me, Lord, of the times you've been faithful in the past so I can look forward with confidence, knowing you uphold me with the right hand of your righteousness. I declare that I trust you in every area of my life, because it is written, "Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." You are my defender against adversity, my shield against the enemy, you are my glory, my God, the one who lifts my head. Let me find in your presence the strength I need to move forward. Lord, my mind, body, and spirit feel tired and worn out. Things in my life feel impossible. Help me understand that it's not by my strength but by yours that I must wait in faith while you work. By your grace, keep me from depression, anger, and resentment. Protect me in the storms of life and give me wisdom to make good decisions and please you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
