A child has been born for us, a son has been given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:61 speaks so clearly about the Messianic Kingdom. This hope grew especially during the Babylonian exile. After that, Israel and Judah lived under the rule of different empires, always dreaming of the day their independent kingdom would be restored. This restoration would be led by someone from the house of David, born in Bethlehem. Jesus fulfilled all these prophecies.
Yet, scripture tells us that Israel didn't recognize the time of their visitation. We now understand this was all part of God's plan to extend grace to the Gentiles. Once that work is complete, that grace will return to Israel.
Romans 11:25-262 says, "I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved." Think about that. It's mind-blowing.
After Jesus came and the church was born, Israel was scattered among the nations until 1948. Then, they were brought back together and became a nation again. Today, Israel is led by a prime minister, but one day, the Messiah will return and establish his kingdom. Every eye will see him when he comes back, and he will reign for a thousand years, restoring the throne of David.
And I will put hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; her offspring will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring’s heel.”
I will bless those who bless you, but the one who treats you lightly I must curse, and all the families of the earth will bless one another by your name.”
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him.
But these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel, and told them, “Go and select for yourselves a lamb or young goat for your families, and kill the Passover animals.Take a branch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and apply to the top of the doorframe and the two side posts some of the blood that is in the basin. Not one of you is to go out the door of his house until morning.For the Lord will pass through to strike Egypt, and when he sees the blood on the top of the doorframe and the two side posts, then the Lord will pass over the door, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you – from your fellow Israelites; you must listen to him.
A voice cries out, “In the wilderness clear a way for the Lord; construct in the desert a road for our God.
For he is the one about whom Isaiah the prophet had spoken: “The voice of one shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
The king says, “I will announce the Lord’s decree. He said to me: ‘You are my son! This very day I have become your father!
(5:1) As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, seemingly insignificant among the clans of Judah – from you a king will emerge who will rule over Israel on my behalf, one whose origins are in the distant past.
Yes, wild dogs surround me – a gang of evil men crowd around me; like a lion they pin my hands and feet.I can count all my bones; my enemies are gloating over me in triumph.They are dividing up my clothes among themselves; they are rolling dice for my garments.
For this reason the sovereign master himself will give you a confirming sign. Look, this young woman is about to conceive and will give birth to a son. You, young woman, will name him Immanuel.
Here is the Lord’s proclamation to my lord: “Sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool!”
“I, the Lord, promise that a new time will certainly come when I will raise up for them a righteous branch, a descendant of David. He will rule over them with wisdom and understanding and will do what is just and right in the land.
Therefore you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
Blessed and holy is the one who takes part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
A shoot will grow out of Jesse’s root stock, a bud will sprout from his roots.At that time a root from Jesse will stand like a signal flag for the nations. Nations will look to him for guidance, and his residence will be majestic.At that time the sovereign master will again lift his hand to reclaim the remnant of his people from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the seacoasts.He will lift a signal flag for the nations; he will gather Israel’s dispersed people and assemble Judah’s scattered people from the four corners of the earth.Ephraim’s jealousy will end, and Judah’s hostility will be eliminated. They will take over Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be their subjects.The Lord will divide the gulf of the Egyptian Sea; he will wave his hand over the Euphrates River and send a strong wind, he will turn it into seven dried-up streams, and enable them to walk across in their sandals.There will be a highway leading out of Assyria for the remnant of his people, just as there was for Israel, when they went up from the land of Egypt.The Lord’s spirit will rest on him – a spirit that gives extraordinary wisdom, a spirit that provides the ability to execute plans, a spirit that produces absolute loyalty to the Lord.
But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
“Here is my servant whom I support, my chosen one in whom I take pleasure. I have placed my spirit on him; he will make just decrees for the nations.
O Lord, you are great, mighty, majestic, magnificent, glorious, and sovereign over all the sky and earth! You have dominion and exalt yourself as the ruler of all.
he says, “Is it too insignificant a task for you to be my servant, to reestablish the tribes of Jacob, and restore the remnant of Israel? I will make you a light to the nations, so you can bring my deliverance to the remote regions of the earth.”
From that time Jesus began to preach this message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
So then you are no longer foreigners and noncitizens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household,in which you formerly lived according to this world’s present path, according to the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the ruler of the spirit that is now energizing the sons of disobedience,because you have been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.
I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.
The Lord will then be king over all the earth. In that day the Lord will be seen as one with a single name.
“Look, my servant will succeed! He will be elevated, lifted high, and greatly exalted –(just as many were horrified by the sight of you) he was so disfigured he no longer looked like a man;his form was so marred he no longer looked human – so now he will startle many nations. Kings will be shocked by his exaltation, for they will witness something unannounced to them, and they will understand something they had not heard about.
Who would have believed what we just heard? When was the Lord’s power revealed through him?Though the Lord desired to crush him and make him ill, once restitution is made, he will see descendants and enjoy long life, and the Lord’s purpose will be accomplished through him.Having suffered, he will reflect on his work, he will be satisfied when he understands what he has done. “My servant will acquit many, for he carried their sins.So I will assign him a portion with the multitudes, he will divide the spoils of victory with the powerful, because he willingly submitted to death and was numbered with the rebels, when he lifted up the sin of many and intervened on behalf of the rebels.”
For the Lord, our ruler, the Lord, our commander, the Lord, our king – he will deliver us.
Who is this majestic king? The Lord who commands armies! He is the majestic king! (Selah)
The spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners,I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; I will be overjoyed because of my God. For he clothes me in garments of deliverance; he puts on me a robe symbolizing vindication. I look like a bridegroom when he wears a turban as a priest would; I look like a bride when she puts on her jewelry.For just as the ground produces its crops and a garden yields its produce, so the sovereign Lord will cause deliverance to grow, and give his people reason to praise him in the sight of all the nations.to announce the year when the Lord will show his favor, the day when our God will seek vengeance, to console all who mourn,
Now to the eternal king, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever! Amen.

I was watching in the night visions, “And with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man was approaching. He went up to the Ancient of Days and was escorted before him.To him was given ruling authority, honor, and sovereignty. All peoples, nations, and language groups were serving him. His authority is eternal and will not pass away. His kingdom will not be destroyed.
So know and understand: From the issuing of the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until an anointed one, a prince arrives, there will be a period of seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will again be built, with plaza and moat, but in distressful times.Now after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one will be cut off and have nothing. As for the city and the sanctuary, the people of the coming prince will destroy them. But his end will come speedily like a flood. Until the end of the war that has been decreed there will be destruction.
Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey – on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.
“I will pour out on the kingship of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn.
“In that day there will be a fountain opened up for the dynasty of David and the people of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity.
This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:“Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call him Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.”
‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
He stayed there until Herod died. In this way what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet was fulfilled: “I called my Son out of Egypt.”
so that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way by the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles –the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and on those who sit in the region and shadow of death a light has dawned.”
This fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet:“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I take great delight. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.He will not quarrel or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.But when the Pharisees saw this they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath.”He will not break a bruised reed or extinguish a smoldering wick, until he brings justice to victory.And in his name the Gentiles will hope.”
This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”They said to him, “He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest.”Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds regarded him as a prophet.“Tell the people of Zion, ‘Look, your king is coming to you, unassuming and seated on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
But this has happened so that the scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way,Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.Then they went to Capernaum. When the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.The people there were amazed by his teaching, because he taught them like one who had authority, not like the experts in the law.Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,“Leave us alone, Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!”But Jesus rebuked him: “Silence! Come out of him!”After throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.They were all amazed so that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him.”So the news about him spread quickly throughout all the region around Galilee.Now as soon as they left the synagogue, they entered Simon and Andrew’s house, with James and John.the voice of one shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
Listen: You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.”
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people:Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord.
and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and the regaining of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed,to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”where for forty days he endured temptations from the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, he was famished.Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.Then he began to tell them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.”
So he answered them, “Go tell John what you have seen and heard: The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed to them.
Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law, and the prophets also wrote about – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
You study the scriptures thoroughly because you think in them you possess eternal life, and it is these same scriptures that testify about me,
so that the word of Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled. He said, “Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
But the things God foretold long ago through all the prophets – that his Christ would suffer – he has fulfilled in this way.Therefore repent and turn back so that your sins may be wiped out,And a man lame from birth was being carried up, who was placed at the temple gate called “the Beautiful Gate” every day so he could beg for money from those going into the temple courts.so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and so that he may send the Messiah appointed for you – that is, Jesus.
About him all the prophets testify, that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
This gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.For although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened.Although they claimed to be wise, they became foolsand exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves.They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones,and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in their passions for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done.They are filled with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips,concerning his Son who was a descendant of David with reference to the flesh,slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, contrivers of all sorts of evil, disobedient to parents,senseless, covenant-breakers, heartless, ruthless.Although they fully know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but also approve of those who practice them.who was appointed the Son-of-God-in-power according to the Holy Spirit by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.
And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, and the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles, in him will the Gentiles hope.”
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who predicted the grace that would come to you searched and investigated carefully.They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.They were shown that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven – things angels long to catch a glimpse of.
(Look! He is returning with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the tribes on the earth will mourn because of him. This will certainly come to pass! Amen.)
Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has conquered; thus he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
He has a name written on his clothing and on his thigh: “King of kings and Lord of lords.”
The stone which the builders discarded has become the cornerstone.This is the Lord’s work. We consider it amazing!
At that time a root from Jesse will stand like a signal flag for the nations. Nations will look to him for guidance, and his residence will be majestic.
(9:1) The people walking in darkness see a bright light; light shines on those who live in a land of deep darkness.
May his fame endure! May his dynasty last as long as the sun remains in the sky! May they use his name when they formulate their blessings! May all nations consider him to be favored by God!
Like a shepherd he tends his flock; he gathers up the lambs with his arm; he carries them close to his heart; he leads the ewes along.
He chose David, his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.He took him away from following the mother sheep, and made him the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and of Israel, his chosen nation.David cared for them with pure motives; he led them with skill.
He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.
You will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful follower to see the Pit.
Look, the Lord announces to the entire earth: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘Look, your deliverer comes! Look, his reward is with him and his reward goes before him!’”
Then say to him, ‘The Lord who rules over all says, “Look – here is the man whose name is Branch, who will sprout up from his place and build the temple of the Lord.Indeed, he will build the temple of the Lord, and he will be clothed in splendor, sitting as king on his throne. Moreover, there will be a priest with him on his throne and they will see eye to eye on everything.
“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he has come to help and has redeemed his people.For he has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,
“Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord, permit your servant to depart in peace.Everyone went to his own town to be registered.For my eyes have seen your salvationthat you have prepared in the presence of all peoples:a light, for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne,David by foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did his body experience decay.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them.
Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say, “and to the descendants,” referring to many, but “and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ.
The Lord said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:If his sons reject my law and disobey my regulations,if they break my rules and do not keep my commandments,I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club, their sin by inflicting them with bruises.But I will not remove my loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to my promise.I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised.Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David.His dynasty will last forever. His throne will endure before me, like the sun,it will remain stable, like the moon, his throne will endure like the skies.” (Selah)But you have spurned and rejected him; you are angry with your chosen king.You have repudiated your covenant with your servant; you have thrown his crown to the ground.‘I will give you an eternal dynasty and establish your throne throughout future generations.’” (Selah)
The Lord made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, “I will place one of your descendants on your throne.If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”
“‘My servant David will be king over them; there will be one shepherd for all of them. They will follow my regulations and carefully observe my statutes.They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, in which your fathers lived; they will live in it – they and their children and their grandchildren forever. David my servant will be prince over them forever.

I will remove the chariot from Ephraim and the warhorse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be removed. Then he will announce peace to the nations. His dominion will be from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
This is the record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.”Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures,and said to them, “Thus it stands written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day,and repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
And all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed him, have spoken about and announced these days.

Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it.teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man.For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
But when the appropriate time had come, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,to redeem those who were under the law, so that we may be adopted as sons with full rights.
and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God (which is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed –namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction,for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.God publicly displayed him at his death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed.This was also to demonstrate his righteousness in the present time, so that he would be just and the justifier of the one who lives because of Jesus’ faithfulness.
For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died (and more than that, he was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us.Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?As it is written, “For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us!For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers,nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
so also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, to those who eagerly await him he will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation.
And we proclaim to you the good news about the promise to our ancestors,that this promise God has fulfilled to us, their children, by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son; today I have fathered you.’
I will declare your name to my countrymen! In the middle of the assembly I will praise you!
You ascend on high, you have taken many captives. You receive tribute from men, including even sinful rebels. Indeed the Lord God lives there!
Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, since we have been reconciled, will we be saved by his life?Not only this, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned –for before the law was given, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law.Yet death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam (who is a type of the coming one) transgressed.But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. For if the many died through the transgression of the one man, how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ multiply to the many!And the gift is not like the one who sinned. For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, led to condemnation, but the gracious gift from the many failures led to justification.For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ!Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness leading to life for all people.For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man many will be made righteous.through whom we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of God’s glory.
Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit.
Your loyal followers trust in you, for you, Lord, do not abandon those who seek your help.
“Arise! Shine! For your light arrives! The splendor of the Lord shines on you!Foreigners will rebuild your walls; their kings will serve you. Even though I struck you down in my anger, I will restore my favor and have compassion on you.Your gates will remain open at all times; they will not be shut during the day or at night, so that the wealth of nations may be delivered, with their kings leading the way.Indeed, nations or kingdoms that do not serve you will perish; such nations will be totally destroyed.The splendor of Lebanon will come to you, its evergreens, firs, and cypresses together, to beautify my palace; I will bestow honor on my throne room.The children of your oppressors will come bowing to you; all who treated you with disrespect will bow down at your feet. They will call you, ‘The City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.’You were once abandoned and despised, with no one passing through, but I will make you a permanent source of pride and joy to coming generations.You will drink the milk of nations; you will nurse at the breasts of kings. Then you will recognize that I, the Lord, am your deliverer, your protector, the powerful ruler of Jacob.Instead of bronze, I will bring you gold, instead of iron, I will bring you silver, instead of wood, I will bring you bronze, instead of stones, I will bring you iron. I will make prosperity your overseer, and vindication your sovereign ruler.Sounds of violence will no longer be heard in your land, or the sounds of destruction and devastation within your borders. You will name your walls, ‘Deliverance,’ and your gates, ‘Praise.’The sun will no longer supply light for you by day, nor will the moon’s brightness shine on you; the Lord will be your permanent source of light – the splendor of your God will shine upon you.For, look, darkness covers the earth and deep darkness covers the nations, but the Lord shines on you; his splendor appears over you.Your sun will no longer set; your moon will not disappear; the Lord will be your permanent source of light; your time of sorrow will be over.All of your people will be godly; they will possess the land permanently. I will plant them like a shoot; they will be the product of my labor, through whom I reveal my splendor.The least of you will multiply into a thousand; the smallest of you will become a large nation. When the right time comes, I the Lord will quickly do this!”Nations come to your light, kings to your bright light.
Now when Jesus learned of this, he went away from there. Great crowds followed him, and he healed them all.But he sternly warned them not to make him known.This fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet:“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I take great delight. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.He will not quarrel or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.But when the Pharisees saw this they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath.”He will not break a bruised reed or extinguish a smoldering wick, until he brings justice to victory.And in his name the Gentiles will hope.”
as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from long ago,that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us.He has done this to show mercy to our ancestors, and to remember his holy covenant –
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion; he will remove ungodliness from Jacob.
Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing. You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star!”
But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.His dominion will be vast and he will bring immeasurable prosperity. He will rule on David’s throne and over David’s kingdom, establishing it and strengthening it by promoting justice and fairness, from this time forward and forevermore. The Lord’s intense devotion to his people will accomplish this.
A wolf will reside with a lamb, and a leopard will lie down with a young goat; an ox and a young lion will graze together, as a small child leads them along.A cow and a bear will graze together, their young will lie down together. A lion, like an ox, will eat straw.A baby will play over the hole of a snake; over the nest of a serpent an infant will put his hand.They will no longer injure or destroy on my entire royal mountain. For there will be universal submission to the Lord’s sovereignty, just as the waters completely cover the sea.
Look, a king will promote fairness; officials will promote justice.In a year’s time you carefree ones will shake with fear, for the grape harvest will fail, and the fruit harvest will not arrive.Tremble, you complacent ones! Shake with fear, you carefree ones! Strip off your clothes and expose yourselves – put sackcloth on your waist!Mourn over the field, over the delightful fields and the fruitful vine!Mourn over the land of my people, which is overgrown with thorns and briers, and over all the once-happy houses in the city filled with revelry.For the fortress is neglected; the once-crowded city is abandoned. Hill and watchtower are permanently uninhabited. Wild donkeys love to go there, and flocks graze there.This desolation will continue until new life is poured out on us from heaven. Then the desert will become an orchard and the orchard will be considered a forest.Justice will settle down in the desert and fairness will live in the orchard.Fairness will produce peace and result in lasting security.My people will live in peaceful settlements, in secure homes, and in safe, quiet places.Even if the forest is destroyed and the city is annihilated,Each of them will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from a rainstorm; like streams of water in a dry region and like the shade of a large cliff in a parched land.
