102 Bible verses about Longevity

Longevity is all about survival, persistence, endurance, lasting a long time, and simply being vital and alive. Think about it, from the very beginning, God didn't want us to die; He wanted us to live forever here on Earth.

When you read those first chapters of Genesis, it's clear that disobedience and sin are what brought death into the world. But there's also this promise of a long life woven throughout the Bible.

Look at the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20:12¹²: "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." Right there, God connects honoring your parents with living a longer life. Pretty powerful stuff.

Wise King Solomon, in Ecclesiastes, also gives us some food for thought about living a long time. He basically says, don't do a lot of bad stuff, don't be foolish, why die before your time? The further you are from evil, the longer you'll live.

And I think there's also this unspoken idea that if you take care of your body – the temple of God – He'll take care of you. We see in the Bible that Jesus welcomed some believers directly into heaven, which makes me wonder if maybe a lack of care for their health led them there sooner than they might have otherwise gone.

It all comes down to this: we need to follow the instructions God gives us in His guidebook for life. Honor your parents, take care of your body, stay away from foolishness and evil, and ask God for wisdom and understanding. If you do these things, you won't die before your time. It’s that simple.

Surely goodness and loyal love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will stay in the house of Yahweh for a very long time.

Yahweh knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will be forever.They will not be put to shame in distressing times, and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.

In exactly the path that Yahweh your God has commanded, you must go, so that you may live and it will go well for you and you may live long in the land that you will take possession of.”

With long life I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh, who walks in his ways.You will indeed eat of the labor of your hands; you will be happy and it will be well with you.

For length of days, years of life, and peace they shall add to you.

For by me your days shall increase, and years of life shall multiply for you.

There will no longer be a nursing infant who lives only a few days, or an old man who does not fill his days, for the boy will die a hundred years old, and the one who fails to reach a hundred years will be considered accursed.

And who among you, by being anxious, is able to add one hour to his life span?

I will not ever forget your precepts, for by them you revive me.

Yahweh kills and restores alive, he brings down to Sheol and raises up.

You will make known to me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forever.

Your eyes saw my embryo, and in your book they all were written— days fashioned for me when there was not one of them.

My child, do not forget my instruction, and may your heart guard my commands.For length of days, years of life, and peace they shall add to you.

The fear of Yahweh adds life, but the years of the wicked are shortened.

But you, O God, you will bring them down to the pit of corruption. The men of bloodshed and deceit will not live half their days, but I will trust you.

For “The one who wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips must not speak deceit.

A heart of tranquility is life to the flesh, but causes bones of passion to rot.

Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name.

Do not place trust in princes, in a son of humankind with whom there is no deliverance.His breath departs; he returns to his plot; on that day his plans perish.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Yahweh and retreat from evil.There shall be healing for your flesh, and refreshment for your body.

so that they may multiply your days and the days of your children on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors to give it to them as long as heaven endures over the earth.

They will still prosper in old age. They will be fat and luxuriant,

The path of life leads upward for him who has insight, in order to turn away from Sheol below.

And Yahweh said, “My Spirit shall not abide with humankind forever in that he is also flesh. And his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

Great peace is for those who love your law, and they do not have a cause for stumbling.

And he chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds.He brought him from following nursing ewes to shepherd Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.And he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and led them by the skillfulness of his hands.

For he who finds me is he who finds life, and he obtains favor from Yahweh.But he who misses me injures himself. All those who hate me love death.”

Do not act excessively wicked, and do not be a fool, lest you die before your time.

A crown of glory is gray hair; by a righteous life it is gained.

Fools, because of their rebellious way and their iniquities, were afflicted.Their soul abhorred all food, and they approached the gates of death.

On the road of righteousness is life, and on the way of the path, may there be no death.

Blessed is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is on Yahweh as his God,who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, the one who keeps faith forever,

I invoke as a witness against you today the heaven and the earth: life and death I have set before you, blessing and curse. So choose life, so that you may live, you and your offspring,by loving Yahweh your God by listening to his voice and by clinging to him, for he is your life and the length of your days in order for you to live on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them.”

And let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give up.

Costly in Yahweh’s view is the death of his faithful ones.

So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the future.

Blessed be the Lord. Daily he loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation. Selah

Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

Uphold me, that I may be delivered, and have regard for your statutes continually.

Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

to give for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

Yahweh is my shepherd; I will not lack for anything.In grassy pastures he makes me lie down; by quiet waters he leads me.He restores my life. He leads me in correct paths for the sake of his name.

And he died in a good old age, full of days, wealth, and honor. And Solomon his son reigned in his place.

O Yahweh, your loyal love extends into the heavens, your faithfulness unto the clouds.

He who pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, self control. Against such things there is no law.

Who is the man fearing Yahweh? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

The hand of the diligent ones will rule, but the lazy will belong to forced labor.

You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

convinced of this same thing, that the one who began a good work in you will finish it until the day of Christ Jesus,

I praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it well.

And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,

Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, because I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

But seek first his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Take pleasure in Yahweh as well, and he will give to you the requests of your heart.

For I consider that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us.

Let my soul live that it may praise you, and let your ordinances help me.

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of Yahweh.Blessed are those who keep his testimonies; they seek him with a whole heart.

A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death is better than the day of one’s birth.

Intimate fellowship with Yahweh is for those who fear him, and he makes known his covenant to them.

Because Yahweh God is a sun and a shield; Yahweh gives grace and honor. He does not withhold good from those who walk blamelessly.

“Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.

Who is the man who desires life, who loves many days in order to see good?Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

Listen, my child, take my sayings, and the years of your life shall be great.

The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh— wealth and honor and life.

He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him.With long life I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

“Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise),“in order that it may be well with you, and you may live a long time on the earth.”
