Proverbs 8

¹ Listen! Wisdom and Understanding\par are calling for you to listen.\par

² They stand at the top of the hill\par by the road where the paths meet.\par

³ They are near the gates of the city.\par They are calling out from the open doors.\par

⁴ \{Wisdom says,\}\par “Men, I call out to you.\par I call out to all people.\par

⁵ If you are foolish, learn to be wise.\par Foolish men, learn to understand.\par

⁶ Listen! The things I teach are important.\par I tell you things that are right.\par

⁷ My words are true.\par I hate evil lies.\par

⁸ The things I say are right.\par There is nothing false or wrong\par in my words.\par

⁹ All these sayings are clear to the person\par who has understanding.\par The person with knowledge\par understands these things.\par

¹⁰ Accept my discipline.\par It is worth more than silver.\par It is worth more than the best gold.\par

¹¹ Wisdom is worth more than pearls.\par It is worth more than anything a person\par can want.”\par

¹² “I am Wisdom.\par I live with good judgment.\par You can find me with Knowledge\par and Good Planning.\par

¹³ If a person respects the Lord,\par then that person will hate evil.\par I (Wisdom) hate pride\par and people who think they are better\par than other people.\par I hate evil ways, and a lying mouth.\par

¹⁴ But I give people the ability\par to make good decisions\par and have good judgment.\par I give understanding and power!\par

¹⁵ Kings use me to rule.\par Rulers use me to make fair laws.\par

¹⁶ Every good ruler on earth uses me\par to rule the people under them.\par

¹⁷ I love people who love me.\par And if people try hard to find me,\par they will find me.\par

¹⁸ I also have riches\par and honor to give.\par I give true wealth and success.\par

¹⁹ The things I give are better than fine gold.\par And my gifts are better than pure silver.\par

²⁰ I lead people in the right way.\par I lead them along the paths\par of right judgment.\par

²¹ I give wealth to people who love me.\par Yes, I fill their houses with treasures.\par

²² I was the first thing the Lord made,\par long ago in the beginning.\par

²³ I was made in the beginning.\par I was made first, before the world.\par

²⁴ I was formed before the oceans;\par I was made before there was water.\par

²⁵ I was born before the mountains.\par I was born before the hills.\par

²⁶ I was born before the Lord made the earth.\par I was born before the fields.\par I was born before God made the first dust\par of the world.\par

²⁷ I was there when the Lord\par made the skies.\par I was there when the Lord\par drew the circle around the land\par and set the limits for the ocean.\par

²⁸ I was born before the Lord put the clouds\par in the sky.\par And I was there when the Lord put water\par in the ocean.\par

²⁹ I was there when the Lord set the limits\par for water in the seas.\par The water can’t rise higher\par than the Lord allows.\par I was there when the Lord made\par the foundations of the earth.\par

³⁰ I was beside him like a skilled worker.\par The Lord was happy every day\par because of me.\par I made him laugh and be happy\par all the time.\par

³¹ The Lord was excited about the world\par he made.\par He was happy about the people\par that he put there.\par

³² “Now, children, listen to me!\par You can be happy too,\par if you follow my ways!\par

³³ Listen to my teachings and become wise.\par Don’t refuse to listen.\par

³⁴ The person who listens to me\par will be happy.\par He watches every day at my doors.\par He waits at my doorway.\par

³⁵ Any person who finds me finds life.\par He will get good things from the Lord!\par

³⁶ But the person who sins against me\par hurts himself.\par All people who hate me love death!”\par
