As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him.
He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
The way of the sluggard is as an hedge of thorns: But the path of the upright is made an highway.
He also that is slack in his work Is brother to him that is a destroyer.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; And the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
The slothful will not plow by reason of the winter; Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
The sluggard saith, There is a lion without: I shall be murdered in the streets.
There be four things which are little upon the earth, But they are exceeding wise:
The ants are a people not strong, Yet they provide their meat in the summer;
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the ordinance of the LORD.
But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter;
Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value than they?
that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
