My brothers and sisters, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way,
for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure.
We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance,
endurance brings God's approval, and his approval creates hope.
This hope does not disappoint us, for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us.
Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials you suffer.
Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. Then you will receive praise and glory and honour on the Day when Jesus Christ is revealed.
His anger lasts only a moment, his goodness for a lifetime. Tears may flow in the night, but joy comes in the morning.
But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ's power over me.
I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose.
Be joyful always,
pray at all times,
be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.
Let those who wept as they sowed their seed, gather the harvest with joy!
Those who wept as they went out carrying the seed will come back singing for joy, as they bring in the harvest.
To give to those who mourn in Zion Joy and gladness instead of grief, A song of praise instead of sorrow. They will be like trees That the LORD himself has planted. They will all do what is right, And God will be praised for what he has done.
As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses round us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us.
Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right-hand side of God's throne.
Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
“Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers.
Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven. This is how the prophets who lived before you were persecuted.
May you be made strong with all the strength which comes from his glorious power, so that you may be able to endure everything with patience. And with joy give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to have your share of what God has reserved for his people in the kingdom of light.
When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a place of safety in times of trouble.
Those who know you, LORD, will trust you; you do not abandon anyone who comes to you.
Now, the important thing is that your way of life should be as the gospel of Christ requires, so that, whether or not I am able to go and see you, I will hear that you are standing firm with one common purpose and that with only one desire you are fighting together for the faith of the gospel.
Don't be afraid of your enemies; always be courageous, and this will prove to them that they will lose and that you will win, because it is God who gives you the victory.
Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my saviour and my God.
For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day.
And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble.
For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts for ever.
“Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest.
For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.”
But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these.
When I am afraid, O LORD Almighty, I put my trust in you.
I trust in God and am not afraid; I praise him for what he has promised. What can a mere human being do to me?
My dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful test you are suffering, as though something unusual were happening to you.
Rather be glad that you are sharing Christ's sufferings, so that you may be full of joy when his glory is revealed.
I waited patiently for the LORD's help; then he listened to me and heard my cry.
He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure.
He taught me to sing a new song, a song of praise to our God. Many who see this will take warning and will put their trust in the LORD.
But those who trust in the LORD for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
Are any of you in trouble? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.
I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the wonderful things you have done.
I will sing with joy because of you. I will sing praise to you, Almighty God.
Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.”
Let us be bold, then, and say: “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.
Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my saviour and my God.
So let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.
And I am not saying this because I feel neglected, for I have learnt to be satisfied with what I have.
I know what it is to be in need and what it is to have more than enough. I have learnt this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little.
Remember how it was with you in the past. In those days, after God's light had shone on you, you suffered many things, yet were not defeated by the struggle.
You were at times publicly insulted and ill-treated, and at other times you were ready to join those who were being treated in this way.
You shared the sufferings of prisoners, and when all your belongings were seized, you endured your loss gladly, because you knew that you still possessed something much better, which would last for ever.
Do not be afraid — I am with you! I am your God — let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.
although saddened, we are always glad; we seem poor, but we make many people rich; we seem to have nothing, yet we really possess everything.
All I want is to know Christ and to experience the power of his resurrection, to share in his sufferings and become like him in his death,
Now that we have been put right with God through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
He has brought us by faith into this experience of God's grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God's glory!
Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help comes!
He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God.
I praise you because you are to be feared; all you do is strange and wonderful. I know it with all my heart.
You, LORD, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.
But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation.
You will show me the path that leads to life; your presence fills me with joy and brings me pleasure for ever.
But by becoming a curse for us Christ has redeemed us from the curse that the Law brings; for the scripture says, “Anyone who is hanged on a tree is under God's curse.”
Christ did this in order that the blessing which God promised to Abraham might be given to the Gentiles by means of Christ Jesus, so that through faith we might receive the Spirit promised by God.
I consider that what we suffer at this present time cannot be compared at all with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.
And I will always guide you and satisfy you with good things. I will keep you strong and well. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring of water that never runs dry.
You have done many things for us, O LORD our God; there is no one like you! You have made many wonderful plans for us. I could never speak of them all — their number is so great!
Yet we who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.
We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair;
there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.
When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honour them.
Let us have confidence, then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace. There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it.
And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.
Israel, the LORD who created you says, “Do not be afraid — I will save you. I have called you by name — you are mine.
For God's Kingdom is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of the righteousness, peace, and joy which the Holy Spirit gives.
because every child of God is able to defeat the world. And we win the victory over the world by means of our faith.
Praise the LORD! Happy is the person who honours the LORD, who takes pleasure in obeying his commands.
The good man's children will be powerful in the land; his descendants will be blessed.
Jerusalem rejoices because of what the LORD has done. She is like a bride dressed for her wedding. God has clothed her with salvation and victory.
Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, LORD, for you are with me. Your shepherd's rod and staff protect me.
You love him, although you have not seen him, and you believe in him, although you do not now see him. So you rejoice with a great and glorious joy which words cannot express,
Let us, then, always offer praise to God as our sacrifice through Jesus, which is the offering presented by lips that confess him as Lord.
In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Certainly not God, who did not even keep back his own Son, but offered him for us all! He gave us his Son — will he not also freely give us all things?
When I am surrounded by troubles, you keep me safe. You oppose my angry enemies and save me by your power.
neither the world above nor the world below — there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.
God is my saviour; I will trust him and not be afraid. The LORD gives me power and strength; he is my saviour.
God is to be trusted, the God who called you to have fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Leave your troubles with the LORD, and he will defend you; he never lets honest people be defeated.
For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.
You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance; you have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy.
So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you. LORD, you are my God, I will give you thanks for ever.
Never take revenge, my friends, but instead let God's anger do it. For the scripture says, “I will take revenge, I will pay back, says the Lord.”
Declare me innocent, O LORD, because I do what is right and trust you completely.
Examine me and test me, LORD; judge my desires and thoughts.
As for you, my brothers and sisters, you were called to be free. But do not let this freedom become an excuse for letting your physical desires control you. Instead, let love make you serve one another.
“Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.
Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my saviour and my God.
Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.
How happy are those whose strength comes from you, who are eager to make the pilgrimage to Mount Zion.
And with all his abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs.
But you belong to God, my children, and have defeated the false prophets, because the Spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit in those who belong to the world.
But you, O LORD, are always my shield from danger; you give me victory and restore my courage.
for it is he who is the “Yes” to all God's promises. This is why through Jesus Christ our “Amen” is said to the glory of God.
if you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon.
And I will always guide you and satisfy you with good things. I will keep you strong and well. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring of water that never runs dry.
be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.
Those who trust in the LORD will possess the land, but the wicked will be driven out.
Soon the wicked will disappear; you may look for them, but you won't find them;
the humble will possess the land and enjoy prosperity and peace.
He strengthens those who are weak and tired.
Even those who are young grow weak; young people can fall exhausted.
But those who trust in the LORD for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
The LORD is with me, I will not be afraid; what can anyone do to me?
It is the LORD who helps me, and I will see my enemies defeated.
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its passions and desires.
Now, the important thing is that your way of life should be as the gospel of Christ requires, so that, whether or not I am able to go and see you, I will hear that you are standing firm with one common purpose and that with only one desire you are fighting together for the faith of the gospel.
If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west,
you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me.
I waited patiently for the LORD's help; then he listened to me and heard my cry.
He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure.
Of course, my brothers and sisters, I really do not think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead.
So I run straight towards the goal in order to win the prize, which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know.
Remember the LORD in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.
