and the men of Ai killed about thirty-six men of them, and chased them before the gate as far as Shebarim, and slew them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.


There was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, who did not go out after Israel; they left the city open, and pursued Israel.


And the people of Israel went up against the Benjaminites on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibe-ah, as at other times.


And the Benjaminites said, “They are routed before us, as at the first.” But the men of Israel said, “Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”
