Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing.


They love to have the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues,


Woe to you Pharisees! For you love to have the seat of honor in the synagogues and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces.


“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets.


Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.


I have written something to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority.
