And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me, to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.


The evil bow before the good; And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.


He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house: But he that hateth gifts shall live.


And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that he laboureth for the wind?


For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: he hath no standing corn; the blade shall yield no meal; if so be it yield, strangers shall swallow it up.


Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his house: for he is such a son of Belial, that one cannot speak to him.


Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and the woman was of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.


And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.
