Now to Abraham were the promises spoken, and to his seed. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

For they verily for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

Wherefore it behoved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.


For men swear by the greater: and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.
