Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.


Whoso curseth his father or his mother, His lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.


And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he commanded you;


neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land wherein ye sojourn.


In thee have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of thee, have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.


A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?


Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.


that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.


Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.


Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God commanded thee: that thy days may be long, and that it may go well with thee, upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.


But if any widow hath children or grandchildren, let them learn first to shew piety towards their own family, and to requite their parents: for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
