Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee; or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom; go in haste, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.”


When I think of it I am dismayed, and shuddering seizes my flesh.


For the arrows of the Almighty are in me; my spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.


My flesh trembles for fear of thee, and I am afraid of thy judgments.


In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.


and my God. My soul is cast down within me, therefore I remember thee from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.


from the end of the earth I call to thee, when my heart is faint. Lead thou me to the rock that is higher than I;


My mind reels, horror has appalled me; the twilight I longed for has been turned for me into trembling.


They gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror covers them; shame is upon all faces, and baldness on all their heads.
