They sing to the tambourine and the lyre, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.


One dies in full prosperity, being wholly at ease and secure,


They were snatched away before their time; their foundation was washed away.


Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters; so does Sheol those who have sinned.


They are exalted a little while, and then are gone; they wither and fade like the mallow; they are cut off like the heads of grain.


For then I should have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept; then I should have been at rest,


If they hearken and serve him, they complete their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasantness.


For they have no pangs; their bodies are sound and sleek.


Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.


And there came against Gibe-ah ten thousand picked men out of all Israel, and the battle was hard; but the Benjaminites did not know that disaster was close upon them.
