“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.


Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and who came forth from the loins of Judah; who swear by the name of the Lord, and confess the God of Israel, but not in truth or right.


do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, says the Lord.”


“Then I will draw near to you for judgment; I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the orphan, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.


And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”


After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you.”


Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the cock crowed.


He said, “I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you three times deny that you know me.”
