Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one can.


What are mortals, that they can be clean? Or those born of woman, that they can be righteous?


How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?


Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.


Surely there is no one on earth so righteous as to do good without ever sinning.


What then? Are we any better off? No, not at all, for we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin,


I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.


For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is mature, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle.
