I have been like a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge.


See, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.


Now listen, Joshua, high priest, you and your colleagues who sit before you! For they are an omen of things to come: I am going to bring my servant the Branch.


But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”


But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he did not answer.


Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many accusations they make against you?”


But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.


He questioned him at some length, but Jesus gave him no answer.


He entered his headquarters again and asked Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.


For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, as though sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to humans.
