Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches down, he stretches out like a lion, like a lioness—who dares rouse him up?


Let those curse it who curse the Sea, those who are skilled to rouse up Leviathan.


Let the stars of its dawn be dark; let it hope for light but have none; may it not see the eyelids of the morning—


Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?


Any hope of capturing it will be disappointed; one is overwhelmed even at the sight of it.


He is wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has resisted him and succeeded?


If you have raced with runners and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses? And if you trust in a safe land, how will you fare in the thickets of the Jordan?


Like a lion coming up from the thickets of the Jordan to a perennial pasture, I will suddenly chase Edom away from it, and I will appoint over it whomever I choose. For who is like me? Who can summon me? Who is the shepherd who can stand before me?
