Let the stars of its dawn be dark; let it hope for light but have none; may it not see the eyelids of the morning—
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or press down its tongue with a cord?
When it raises itself up the gods are afraid; at the crashing they are beside themselves.
On that day the Lord with his cruel and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will kill the dragon that is in the sea.
Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord: In all the squares there shall be wailing, and in all the streets they shall say, “Alas! Alas!” They shall call the farmers to mourning and those skilled in lamentation to wailing;
‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’
