With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and expressly named to render thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were appointed to the gate.
These are the men who served, and their sons were: Of the Kohathites: Heman, the singer, son of Joel, son of Samuel,
and his kinsman Asaph, who stood on his right, namely, Asaph son of Berechiah, son of Shimea,
On the left were their kindred the sons of Merari: Ethan son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluch,

The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second was Abijah; they were judges in Beer-sheba.
