By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.


A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.


The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.


If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.


Then said the Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.


And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.


And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.


Phin´ehas, the son of Ele-a´zar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
