And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth–el, and pitched his tent, having Beth–el on the west, and Ha´i on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
And he called the name of that place Beth–el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
And that day Joshua took Makke´dah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makke´dah as he did unto the king of Jericho.
And there was not a man left in A´i or Beth–el, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth–el: and the Lord was with them.
